Everything we tried was delicious! We went to Oahu for a week and ate here multiple times during our stay. Croissant breakfast sandwich with any kind of meat is delicious. Spam fried rice plate is great if you're looking for a big breakfast. The pastries, cinnamon rolls and pies were fantastic! The coconut cake was my favorite though! perfect, light, fluffy cake. I don't even like coconut!
Ted's Bakery is an excellent, very popular MUST STOP destination on the North Shore during your journey around the island of Oahu.
This is one of their fabled, iconic stories as I heard it. Here is the collection of the unbelieveable highlights, mixed together in sequence and served up about this remarkable account.
On that day, the bakery had run out of most of their standard, standby ingredients. They were temporarily at a loss on how to fulfill a pressing order. However, they had just enough Haupia (Coconut) and Chocolate with some cream on hand to cobble together an experimental pie. They had not tested this mix of ingredients in their pies before. Nevertheless, they quickly filled the order and then, held their breath in anticipation of the customer's reaction.
What happened next stunned everybody. The customer who had ordered the pie was absolutely raving about how delicious the pie was. They were ecstatic. And, staff at Ted's Bakery were dumbfound with amazement at this unanticipated sudden turn of joyful events.
And, let's just say as the proverbial saying goes... "and the rest is history."
Ted's Bakery build upon their new-found fame and gradually expanded the variety of their pie product line. But, their Chocolate, Haupia pie became the centerpiece of their dramatic revival and new claim to wide-spread fame.
On Saturday, October 19, 2024, my latest visit to Ted's Bakery, I envisioned ordering a slice of the fabled Chocolate-Haupia Pie with a hot cup of coffee. But, when I arrived, I saw a lady walk out with the pie order, along with a tall cup of ice coffee. That clinched it for me. NOW, my order was Chocolate-Haupia with a cup of ice coffee. That was my heavenly snack before lunch. But, it was mouth-watering, savory WONDERFUL combination.
I slowly sipped my ice coffee as a carefully, deliberately savored each joyful mouthful of pie.
PLEASE best my claim for an early morning stop-off and treat along your journey around the island of Oahu.

Magical donuts. The glazers taste unlike any donut I've had before.

Ordered the BBQ chicken - it was 40 min wait and came out drenched in I think what is Teriayki sauce (which is not how it was described on the menu). Heaps disappointing.
Pastries are delicious, but the kitchen is disorganized and lost our order. Waited 20 minutes for cold food and it looked like we were not the only ones who waited that long for an average meal.

For the price, the 2 option special plate included only 3 shrimp. We also got the mahi which was very thin and tasted more like cod than mahi. It had a weird eggy breading on it and lacked flavor.

Mediocre at best. Pie was not flavorful, and mahi mahi was bland as well-should have gone to the shrimp food truck.

Mahi mahi sandwich was one of the worst sandwiches I’ve ever had (and I work in a hospital). I was told by the register mahi mahi is grilled but it’s covered in egg, no seasoning. Regular fries are store bought, also no seasoning.
Spare ribs are 2.5/5. Stringy meat, meat quality seemed poor.
Mac nut pie was 2/5. Very sweet, not real whipped cream. Crust is not flaky, seems store bought as well.
Because food was not good, would not come back.

This is the best bakery in the world and I hope it never changes. I spend a lot of time in Oahu and when my husband comes to join me, one thing he looks forward to the most is a chocolate haupia pie from Ted’s. It really is indescribably good.
