Reading in the Hilo history booklet that they survived two tsunamis 1946 and in May 1960 but showing resilience, built a third restaurant and the Exploring Historic Hilo booklet published in 2007 by Waterhouse Publishing,Honolulu the author Leslie Lang said they were known for their Loco mocos. I was visiting here from Siuthern California to taste the gravy and their hamburger loco moco after tasting some disappointing Loco mocos on the mainland. I was pleased with the butter and gravy flavors. Liked the tenderness of the hamburger patty. It was not a hard commercial patty and the gravy had a beefy flavor, not a canned commercial flavored gravy.

Their Hamburger Steak plate was highly praised, in HTH issue date 1/27/26... So, I'm going to try it this coming Sunday! Can't wait!

I planned for my husband and I to grab a quick bite at Cafe 100 before leaving Hilo. With more than 2000 reviews on Google and 30 varieties of loco moco, it was hard to ignore.
Cafe 100 is a casual, local spot with window (staff) or kiosk (automated) ordering and plenty of semi-outdoor seating (i.e., you are technically inside and covered, but you can still feel the heat from outside). I will admit the menu felt a bit overwhelming at first glance because there are so many options available, but we visited on a weekday when it was not busy, so we were able to take our time deciding.
Anticipating larger portions, we decided to share a mixed type loco moco plate along with a drink. That turned out to be a great call, as the portion was more than enough for the two of us, especially since we would not easily be able to take leftovers with us.
This is casual, familiar comfort food done well. No complaints here, and I have already recommended Cafe 100 to a few friends :)

The food leaves a bad aftertaste in your mouth. I got the katsu curry and the beer batter fish. The katsu was way too thin and was 90 batter.

Best is on mondays
Mondays beef and egg noodle stroganoff
Wife and I got here often. Great food, great people. If youre a tourist, accept the culture - you'll only make yourself miserable. Enjoy the experience!
Great food, a must stop on your trip
A true classic. A must stop location for just the right amount of food.
