“Incredible meal at Moon & Turtle. We started with two small plates- smoked sashimi and ahi belly. Then shared the half size of mushroom risotto with the market fish (marlin in an amazing miso coconut brown butter sauce). We couldn't pick just one dessert so we shared the miso cheesecake and macadamia pot de creme. Lychee gin cocktail was also delicious. I will say the risotto and sashimi as staples are both worth the hype and the marlin with the complex sauce was my personal favorite but we loved every single dish. Everything was so fresh with unique flavor combinations. There are so many other items on the menu we want to come back and try. The service is also impeccable. Carson was perfectly attentive and so helpful. She even gave us some recommendations for things to see in the area. Highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait for a second meal here!”
“I got the classic style. A hearty portion for $13.95. The well-cooked rice and slightly vinegared rice are perfect for the soy sauce-based poke. The flavor wasn't too strong, and the 1 scoop of ube salad (?) that came with it was a nice complement. The store clerk's sister was friendly and nice.Tried classical style poke. I love the taste of Sumeshi (vinegared rice? not sure ). Of course the flavor of soy source of poke♥️. One of the best poke shops??”
“Amazing chocolate and service. I highly recommend the dark chocolate lava bar. Wonderfully spicy hot chocolate. The proprietors are especially engaging and helpful. I highly recommend a visit.”

Pho 99
“When traveling in the United States, apart from the magnificent scenery, the most surprising thing must be the food. What I'm talking about here is not surprisingly bad, but surprisingly good. In Hilo, there is a Vietnamese pho shop called Pho 99. Although its storefront is simple, it is not far from the seaside and is easy to find. As I walked past the door, I couldn’t help but think of Anthony Burton sitting on the streets of Vietnam with a noodle bowl in hand. The shop owner is a middle-aged man who behaves like a master from a Stephen Chow Kung Fu movie. We ordered a beef pho in clear soup and a bowl of Beef Stew. No fancy decorations, no excessive showmanship, everything is just right. Asian stomachs are full of emotions about the taste of food. Just by smelling and tasting it, you can feel whether it has the same flavor as the food. In contrast, those gorgeous meals, no matter how attractive they appear and how harmless they appear, can only be a fantasy, a symbol and catharsis suppressed in people's unconscious daydreams. Thanks Pho 99??? May the Force Be With You ??”

“I found a penny on the sidewalk and thought, "a lucky day"... Fast forward to finding Paul's Place in Hilo, which was truly my lucky day find! It's important to note, you MUST HAVE RESERVATIONS to enjoy Paul's Place experience. After chatting with a local couple, they recommended Belgian waffles. Paul has spoiled me for any other waffles, forever. I will travel far and wide for his waffles. Also, the fish sandwich was beyomd perfection. The mixture of ono and ahi has spoiled my husband's taste buds and raised his bar of approval!”
“I found that they serve lamb on the lunch menu and went in to try it. I loved it and everyone was friendly. I brought some of my friends there and they enjoyed it as well. I have not been there since March but am looking forward to going back soon.”
“We will definitely return to this wonderful Cafe! From the get go, it was delightful. Our server was as sweet as honeysuckle and well versed in the food choices. We loved the taro burger and the bean burger. The gluten-free bread was outstanding. A must visit!”

“Absolutely delicious food! I've even brought non vegans here and they love it as well. So grateful to Chris for being such a talented Vietnamese chef (with a vegan twist). I like dining in. They have reasonable prices, generous portions, and great food. I honestly come here often.”
“I had the macadamia crusted special fish of the day. It was good. My husband had the prime rib and it was disgusting. He said it tasted like it had been sitting in the trash can in the alley. It looked gross too. The brussel sprouts & ahi tower were the favorite food selection we had.”

“Amazing taste.. Very low key place, but taste is amazing.. Buckwheat Cold Soba Noodles.. yummmVegetarian options: They have a few vegetarian sushies, and cold noodles (if you replace their dip with their peanut sauce)..”
“Fast service. Food was hot and flavorful. Love the value, plates are stacked full and great prices on everything. Only 2 people allowed in at a time. Order and then wait ”
“Made reservations for party of 11 for dinner. Was seated right away. Service by Ikaika was excellent, even though they were very busy. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The kalua hash patty & eggs was ono. Will go there again when in Hilo.”

“Everything about this place is just awesome, great place for a small breakfast on the go. Homemade and made fresh breakfast sandwiches. Vanilla Chai blended was made perfectly and surprisingly tastey. The fruit boat is a genius idea. There is a million things inside the store to look at I was almost overwhelmed. Very creative and interesting decor. This place can be busy as it is mainly a breakfast spot and high quality. You can dine in but the small bar was occupied, probably best for take out.”
“What an incredible pizza place, we ordered 4 different pizzas and weren’t disappointed by a single one, our server was friendly and on top of it. So glad we stopped in here! Worked great to keep our girls busy with the fun games they have as well!”
“Great variety. Everything looked delicious. I tried the savory scone and a lime pie. So yummy! Staff were friendly and helpful. Pop-in, pop-out place, no room for hanging or tables to sit. Good location. Will definitely be back!”
“I got a pork lemongrass banh mi for $10. I've never had banh mi before so I can't do a comparison to other ones available on island, but it was delicious! If you do drop by, they only accept cash so come prepared!”
“Nice view of the bay though we couldn't sit outside. Very great food! Awesome service! We spoke french between and were lucky enough to have a francophone as our waitress. She was a charm. Went on February 23th, 2024.”

“Rather small storefront for a fantastic group of coffee roasters. I got the Kaū, since they didn't have any of the liberica roasted, and we unfortunately didn't have time for them to roast some, though I wish we had. The coffe was a great treat to bring back with us. The woman at the counter was helpful and knowledgeable, a big plus and sets them apart from most of the places we went to. Highly recommended for black coffee lovers.”

“Awsome place for great sushi experienceVegetarian options: Edamame, vegetable tempura and salad.Parking: Parking in lot right in front of door short walk to entrance.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible/friendly”
“Great Chinese food. Best I tasted on the east side. Food cooked fresh on the spot. Place is a small hole in a wall kind of thing. If u blink, you will miss it. But well worth the money , and worth looking for on a map.Kid-friendliness: Everywhere is kid friendly on the big island!”
“Nice friendly service. Clean restaurant convenient to Downtown Hilo. Had the Coconut Chicken soup and the Pad Thai chicken noodles. Both were good. Also had the Thai ice tea and was good. I would recommend ? this restaurant for good Thai food. Close to the Hilo open product market so you could take care of your produce shopping while having lunch. This restaurant is not very crowded as we were the only customers at 11 am Monday.”
“Our waitress was friendly, however three of us got our food and one person got her food 10 minutes later. Our dessert was served with two of our dinner plates still on the table. We had to ask the waitress to remove them half way through eating our dessert. Not sure if she was new or just busy. The food is always great and we still will return for another meal.”
“Was amazing both times we went within the same week. Service was good and could have been a little better but the food was delicious. We only tried the Izakaya menu and every item we tried was fire. We are already looking forward to being back on the island to try more of their offerings. Floor on restaurant side was really sticky so cleaning could be improved. Food was so freaking good though… and so was their manhattans.”
“Wide open bar area and second level with more tables. Small stage on the left side about mid bar. Main bar area is right in the middle of the building. Looks to be about 18-24 tables that seat mainly 4 and a few with 2. No outdoor seating. Live music is setup on the small stage by local artists every Thursday and Friday night from 1830-2030. Wife and I had two different burgers, one with rings and one with tots. Both had an upcharge for not getting fries of $2 per burger. Burgers were well cooked and very moist. Buns were soft and toppings were crisp and fresh. I added a fried egg and was not disappointed. Menu was normal bar food and some entrees. Looks to be 16 or 17 large TV's for sports and regular bar background music playing. They use Direct TV so each TV can be tuned to different events. Food service was fast, friendly and there was no wait for drinks or food. There are about 18-19 taps for beer and regular domestic selections in bottle as well.On a side note, the fees being added are getting quite overdone. Hawaii tax is not that much but add-ons for credit card and surcharge fees are getting out of hand.Parking: Across the street but area.made to walk the shops and restaurants.Wheelchair accessibility: No issues getting a chair to a table except the very back tables.”
“Nice restaurant in the Hilo Hotel. Great ambience. We had a table right by the window with a view of the sea. You come to dinner and choose whether you want to eat a la carte or take the menu offered. We chose a la carte. The food was very, very good. The portions were generous. Everything was cooked to perfection. The service was perfect. We can only recommend it. Be sure to order a whiskey at the end. If you want, it can be “smoked” in front of your eyes.”
“Food and drinks came out fast. It was possibly one of the best meals I had while visiting.Wheelchair accessibility: Roll in roll out, nice wide doorway. The staff was very friendly and helpful.”

And it came with a piece of very yummy bread pudding! My companions all enjoyed their various lunches and we will definitely return to try other menu options!”

“Super delicious carnitas street tacos! They make their own hot sauce too. And the tacos are so flavorful and moist, a lil crispy. Perfection. Shredded chicken is great also.Parking: Big open gravel parking lot to park in. Just drive into the open metal gate/fence.”
“I found that they serve lamb on the lunch menu and went in to try it. I loved it and everyone was friendly. I brought some of my friends there and they enjoyed it as well. I have not been there since March but am looking forward to going back soon.”
“Great creative food and really refreshing assortment of seltzers and beers. Usually a lively fun atmosphere. The large dining area was originally a Chevrolet dealership showroom ?”
“My husband & I stopped in for a small quick bite and we settled on the nachos with chorizo added on as our meat choice. How can you go wrong with nachos right? They did not disappoint! The nachos were plentiful and delicious. The chorizo was very flavorful and toppings were plentiful. There were a good amount of tables to sit at, under covered area. The service time took about 25 minutes, but the gentleman taking our order was up front about the wait time which I really appreciated. The only observation we made was that there was no hot sauce anywhere. I should have asked the man in the window if there was hot sauce or jalapeño for purchase as I like my food a little spicy. Next time I will and there will definitely be a next time. If the owner is reading this, can you tell me if you offer hot sauce or jalapeños to add on? Thank you”

“Best take out sushi in Hilo hands down ! Place looks unassuming but this is the only place I'll order sushi from . I haven't had a chance to try other items but I've tried their poke and hamachi and ahi sushi rolls . Fresh fish and good quality and reasonably priced . This is honestly better than the other "reserve a table a year in advance" places . In my opinion .”
“Unfortunately I was so excited to eat my first gyro in 5 years and I forgot to take a photo!! It did not disappoint! Was soooo yummy!! Looking forward to ordering this lamb beef gyro again with double tzaziki!!”

“I wasn't feeling well, and thought I would order Pho through Express Waiters. It was my first time eating from this restaurant, and the Pho did not disappoint. We'll definitely dine-in as a family someday soon.”

“It’s delicious. Don’t order the bowl that’s too small. There’s rice underneath. The fried pork cutlet is delicious, but the price of the fried pork cutlet is a bit high. Also, this store only accepts cash!”
“10/10! The friendly staff and unique flavors make it a fabulous experience. Don't miss the chocolate sea salt and strawberry in a waffle cone - a must-try at this excellent vegan spot.”
“So glad we happened to find this place in Hilo! The food was amazingly tasty and filling. We ordered a pancake and one of the spicy pork dishes. This was one of our favorite meals on the island. There are a handful of tables available inside, and they were almost all taken while we were there. Obviously everyone knows how great this place is!Would highly recommend eating here!”
“We picked up a cake here for my Hawaiian birthday trip. The pineapple upside down cake was sweet and delicious, the inside of the cake had a more mild flavor that complimented the syrupy exterior well. It was an excellent balance of flavors! The lady was so helpful, over the phone she helped me pick out a cake that would last the long trip to our hotel, and even gave advice on how to keep it overnight for the best flavor when I picked it up.Great experience!”
“It’s delicious. Don’t order the bowl that’s too small. There’s rice underneath. The fried pork cutlet is delicious, but the price of the fried pork cutlet is a bit high. Also, this store only accepts cash!”
“I absolutely love this place ❤️All organic ingredients which are my favorite. The drinks are delicious even if you aren't a vegetarian/vegan/health nut like I am. The salads will fill you up they're very large in size. Best muffins I've had in years! Some of the vest service I've ever gotten the people here are fantastic!”
“Really amazing no-frills korean food! We got the kalbi combo plate with calamari. The kalbi was so tender and flavorful and the calamari was very light, the tempura was not greasy and the squid was not rubbery or overcooked. The food is a very generous portion and comes with four sides/banchan. My favorites were the eggplant and japchae(korean style glass noodles)Very tasty food at great prices, and the staff are very friendly too. Will definitely return!”

“If you are in this are, def check this place out. The mochis were sooooo good! Also so many different flavours to choose from! Wish we could’ve gone back a few more times!”
“Best coffee ever!!! They are super consistently good and their staff is really nice. The standard size for their drinks is way bigger than other places despite being around the same price as other shops. If you like sweeter stuff, get the Ube latte!!”
“Great small location to get Hawaiian shaved ice. My wife didn't really like her flavor choice, and they gave her another! Great customer service! Not alot of seating inside the store.”
“Great local carryout. Been coming here since I was a kid some 50 years ago. They still serve traditional local fare. So nice to come back and find some things are still the same.”
“Great new spot in Hilo! We had the vegetable curry rice (comes w/two pieces of boneless chicken thigh, mmm!) and the lunch special yakitori udon. Incredibly tasty. Very nice staff. Will definitely be back to try more menu items!?”
“We tried the 3 vegan/plant-based options with 2 of them "Chicago" style and one plain (ketchup/mustard). The veggie dogs (original and Italian Garlic and Fennel) were quite tasty. Firm enough and flavorful. I would recommend these. The "Nawt Dawg" is a carrot that I imagine is marinated. I found it quite soft/mushy and really just tasted like boiled carrot.... wouldn't do that one again, but the veggie ones I would! Hot dogs come with a bag of (Lay's) chips, vegan options availableVegetarian options: 3 vegetarian/vegan options”
“Amazing staff and so helpful. My daughter was grooving and doing her happy food dance and she dropped her bowl and they were so kind about it. Family friendly lunch! Totally a Hilo Gem!”
“Delicious buttery goodness cookies ! A must stop for Hawaii gifts to take home or a gift to share. Stopped by the famous Donna's cookies to pickup a fresh bucket of Almond cookies for a special gift. The location is Super easy to go to , literally on the right side off the highway ( driving into Hilo direction ) in the small town of Paauilo. The service was friendly and freshly boxed up so quickly. I highly recommend to pick up your favorite cookies here from Peanut butter cookies, shortbread, chocolate chip, coconut and more.”
“I am not one that gives reviews out easily, but when the food is really great and sticks in my mind wanting more, I enjoy letting others know how good it was too! I enjoy a good fancy papaya salad with the avocados, tomatoes, and delicious mixed nuts. I've tried papaya salad many places, but this is absolutely the best I have had! It's always fresh, crunchy and so delicious with just the right amount of spiciness! I find myself looking ahead on my calendar to see which weekend I have off so that I can go get one! Way to go Ou's, thank you for your great service and such tasty food!”
“The pho was pretty good, but did lack taste. Also, the menu is very limited, with only beef or chicken pho to choose from. There is no vegetarian option. It is a small, quaint little restaurant and I do recommend a visit.Vegetarian options: There are no vegetarian options.”
“Such good food! Had the beef rendang and fried chicken (ayam goreng) plates, everything was flavorful and authentic!! Definitely recommend. The sambal sauce was awesome too. Thank you Nia!”
“found this small hole in the wall place on our recent visit to Hilo. wow what a hidden gem of a place! great food and portions for a great price. cash only so keep that in mind. we had the chicken katsu curry special, pork curry with menchi katsu combo plate and kansai style okonomiyaki. no sit down tables at this restaurant so we decided to stop at Lili'uokalani Gardens for a family picnic and relax under a tree by the Waihonu pond. what a perfect place for lunch!”
“This restaurant was so good that I decided to start writing Google Reviews - the world needs to know how great this place is. We stayed in Hilo for 5 days and ate here twice. Every single thing we ate was excellent. Our most well-traveled group member decreed this as the best Thai food he’s ever had in America. The curry was spectacular - especially the green curry, the masaman curry, and the red pineapple curry. We also enjoyed the pad Thai, coconut soup, green papaya salad, spring rolls, Thai tea, and mango sticky rice. You really can’t go wrong!Ohi and Lotus were so kind; they even gave us recommendations for local activities as we were waiting for our food. It sounds like they grow most of their vegetables or buy them at local farmer’s markets. Everything tasted so fresh! If you like Thai food, you will love this place.Vegetarian options: Tofu as an option for most dishes”
“A wonderful experience each time with a precisely tailored drink and attentive service.Haven't tried the food yet, but all the teas have been delightful.Great selection of flavors. Just one wish would be for a decaf tea option.Convenient location and no shortage of parking.”
“Had the dogzilla, it was unique, and filling. Although I personally wouldn't get it again but will try something else. Not sure if the ingredients meshed well with the meat.Sudzilla fries, my bad, it was basically the same thing as the dogzilla so the flavors were similar. I traded with my wife's adobe fries, much better balance. We had two hot dogs, two fried and two canned drinks . $46-50?Pros:- Good foodCons:- little pricyWould I come back.- YesWould I recommend it to others- Yes”
“Friendly staff, good location and amazing food. Great menu along with a good selection of bar drinks. We had breakfast and the service was fast. Small location so you might have to wait. Will come here again if back in Hilo.”
“Pete's Belly Bustaz serves the BEST KOREAN CHICKEN I have ever eaten! You can tell, a lot of their food is made with so much love. You absolutely godda go try it!”
“Great menu for dairy free, gluten free, and vegan. The kombucha is on point and above. The root beer is a bit mind blowing. Tastes like root beer without the sugary grossness. All seven that we tried were wonderful. My husband wasn't fond of the Palo Santo but I thought the flavor was really unique. The fish tacos and the chicken tinga were amazing.Bathrooms are nicely kept but please make sure to help them keep it that way by cleaning your mess.”

“Feels like a diner but it’s 100% Japanese. Lucky for us there wasn’t a table at Pinapple’s down the block. Instead, we stumbled upon this gem in Hilo. Difficult to decide because everything sounded so delicious. We got the ahi carpaccio, spicy ahi rolls, spicy cucumber, and tan tan noodles. Service was so friendly and welcoming. Everything delicious! Noodles were just the right consistency of chewiness and firmness. Wish I had another stomach. I would have ordered the rest of the menu.”
“Awsome place for great sushi experienceVegetarian options: Edamame, vegetable tempura and salad.Parking: Parking in lot right in front of door short walk to entrance.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible/friendly”

“My husband and I TREASURE this restaurant!! Food is always consistently delicious and satisfying! Service is always cheerful & prompt! Orders always accurate! BONUS: ALWAYS A CLEAN RESTROOM! I love their entire menu, especially Deluxe Saimin!”
“Small cute local Thai fusion restaurant with amazing food and delicious handmade lilikoi juice. We have been a number of times and the food is always fresh and full of flavour. The summer rolls with huge, beautiful avo chunks and fresh mint are the perfect starter. The Tom Kah soup is a cup creamy coconut goodness with perfectly cooked asperagus spears and beautiful chunks of soft squash and hearts of palm. Mouthwatering. The green papaya salad is delightful. Recommend medium or mild spice level. The food is satisfying, flavorful, and wonderful to share. So many dishes to try when we return. Thankyou thankyou thankyou!”
“This is my favorite restaurant in Hilo! Family owned business, and the owner is also the chef. They offer homestyle cooking with locally sourced ingredients. They make an amazing salad with local greens! The White Guava Café has many local favorites, and something for everyone. They offer different sizes of servings so you can order just the right amount. My favorite is their fried tofu!Vegetarian options: Fried tofu, as I said, in my review. I also love their coconut, vegan curry”
“Seems like a great place to hang. Lotta room, solid vibes, nice folks behind the counter. Like anywhere else, it ain't cheap, but the portions are big and they don't skimp on the drinks. Hard to find parking, though.”
“I dined here for lunch after driving from Kona to Hilo and it was wonderful. Service was fast and we were seated immediately. The tables are just a bit too close to each other so it got a little tight. I tried the 1lb laulau which was tasty. The pork was well cooked but the chunk was so big that I didn't feel that the flavor was even throughout the whole thing. I also prefer if the meat was a bit more soft. They had many other good dishes like saimin and donburi. I also had the lilikoi cheesecake which is handsdown THE BEST I've ever had on the island. It was amazing!!! I wanted to buy more for the drive home.”
“Very nice view of the water. Our waitress Sam was very good, making sure that we were taking care of and explained the menu items very well. The Ono and scallops are outstanding. The wasabi cream sauce was unlike any other I’ve ever tasted. Save room for dessert, and or after dinner drink because they are top-notch. Thank ”
“This is my jam. Stumbled upon this lunch option after hiking at Wai'ale Falls a week ago and I'm still dreaming about that meal. Wow! I'm home in the bitter cold now, and THRILLED to see I can order some butter online (couldn't fit it in bags to buy there). Place was super cute, loved all the signs. The woman working was friendly and fast. My order was a burger with lilikoi (sp?) butter and fries with some sort of sauce made out of magic. If you find yourself in this area, consider yourself extremely fortunate and eat here!”

“Service - Excellent! She was on it and very efficient. Food: It came right before I started to feel a little impatient, but it was not late by any means. All 7 of us were full and had some leftovers. I was the only one who was not fully satisfied by my order. My chicken biscuit with hash browns and gravy was great, except I found the chicken to be too salty and it overpowered the whole biscuit sandwich. Price: Much more expensive than I thought it was going to be. There were 4 people (me and my 3 boys - 17, 17, & 11) and the bill was almost $130, including tip. Too pricy for me to return any time soon.”

“Love the poi ball! Sweet and chewy. The owner is also super friendly! The Food truck is sometimes in a different place, but you can find the location from their Instagram/facebookAlso recommend their smoky Ahi dip!”
“There are good prices for their pizza's and it tastes good. Love the stuffed bread and chicken wings, too. They also have drive-thru, that's a plus. Wish they had more than one location, though.”

“Made reservations for party of 11 for dinner. Was seated right away. Service by Ikaika was excellent, even though they were very busy. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The kalua hash patty & eggs was ono. Will go there again when in Hilo.”
“A great drive thru restaurant. I enjoyed their chili with rice, if you have a larger appetite buy two!The Orbit banana split in a cup is very tasty. Lots of parking! Across from the Hilo Library. Closed on Sunday and Monday. 5 stars!”

But we did get compd a free burger on our bill for our long wait, unsolicited, so that was a nice touch.Atmosphere: Was fine for lunch. Was disappointed that none of the Tv's were on in the middle of March Madness”

“Wayyyyyyy better than lings. Let me say this first.... Lings should be your absolute last chinese place to go to, Leungs however is just as good as Chengs, i would say, but it can be pricy, especially ala carte. But the quality is great! Service was awesome! Was greeted and told farewells.. i would recommend!”

“Delicious bubble waffle and great coffee. Got there first thing to beat the lines everyone else mentioned, and got the waffle really quickly. It was delicious! I had the UniBliss with strawberries, bananas, blueberries, ube, and strawberry cold foam.”
“I had the macadamia crusted special fish of the day. It was good. My husband had the prime rib and it was disgusting. He said it tasted like it had been sitting in the trash can in the alley. It looked gross too. The brussel sprouts & ahi tower were the favorite food selection we had.”
