“While out exploring I found this little roadside stand. Tried the Ono wrap and ube shake. Both were fantastic! And the ladies were so nice! Worth the stop if even for a shake/”
“A wonderful family-run fruit stand close to Akaka falls which sells fresh coconut, sugarcane, small bananas and more. The majority of their produce (except coconuts) comes from a 25 acre farm to the back of the fruit stand. Coconut juice was refreshing and delicious. The owner is knowledgeable on his produce and courteous to his customers.”
“Absolutely delicious food! I've even brought non vegans here and they love it as well. So grateful to Chris for being such a talented Vietnamese chef (with a vegan twist). I like dining in. They have reasonable prices, generous portions, and great food. I honestly come here often.”
“I had the macadamia crusted special fish of the day. It was good. My husband had the prime rib and it was disgusting. He said it tasted like it had been sitting in the trash can in the alley. It looked gross too. The brussel sprouts & ahi tower were the favorite food selection we had.”
“Incredible meal at Moon & Turtle. We started with two small plates- smoked sashimi and ahi belly. Then shared the half size of mushroom risotto with the market fish (marlin in an amazing miso coconut brown butter sauce). We couldn't pick just one dessert so we shared the miso cheesecake and macadamia pot de creme. Lychee gin cocktail was also delicious. I will say the risotto and sashimi as staples are both worth the hype and the marlin with the complex sauce was my personal favorite but we loved every single dish. Everything was so fresh with unique flavor combinations. There are so many other items on the menu we want to come back and try. The service is also impeccable. Carson was perfectly attentive and so helpful. She even gave us some recommendations for things to see in the area. Highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait for a second meal here!”
“I got the classic style. A hearty portion for $13.95. The well-cooked rice and slightly vinegared rice are perfect for the soy sauce-based poke. The flavor wasn't too strong, and the 1 scoop of ube salad (?) that came with it was a nice complement. The store clerk's sister was friendly and nice.Tried classical style poke. I love the taste of Sumeshi (vinegared rice? not sure ). Of course the flavor of soy source of poke♥️. One of the best poke shops??”
“Amazing chocolate and service. I highly recommend the dark chocolate lava bar. Wonderfully spicy hot chocolate. The proprietors are especially engaging and helpful. I highly recommend a visit.”
“If you are in this are, def check this place out. The mochis were sooooo good! Also so many different flavours to choose from! Wish we could’ve gone back a few more times!”

“When traveling in the United States, apart from the magnificent scenery, the most surprising thing must be the food. What I'm talking about here is not surprisingly bad, but surprisingly good. In Hilo, there is a Vietnamese pho shop called Pho 99. Although its storefront is simple, it is not far from the seaside and is easy to find. As I walked past the door, I couldn’t help but think of Anthony Burton sitting on the streets of Vietnam with a noodle bowl in hand. The shop owner is a middle-aged man who behaves like a master from a Stephen Chow Kung Fu movie. We ordered a beef pho in clear soup and a bowl of Beef Stew. No fancy decorations, no excessive showmanship, everything is just right. Asian stomachs are full of emotions about the taste of food. Just by smelling and tasting it, you can feel whether it has the same flavor as the food. In contrast, those gorgeous meals, no matter how attractive they appear and how harmless they appear, can only be a fantasy, a symbol and catharsis suppressed in people's unconscious daydreams. Thanks Pho 99??? May the Force Be With You ??”
“Amazing taste.. Very low key place, but taste is amazing.. Buckwheat Cold Soba Noodles.. yummmVegetarian options: They have a few vegetarian sushies, and cold noodles (if you replace their dip with their peanut sauce)..”
“Fast service. Food was hot and flavorful. Love the value, plates are stacked full and great prices on everything. Only 2 people allowed in at a time. Order and then wait ”
“Made reservations for party of 11 for dinner. Was seated right away. Service by Ikaika was excellent, even though they were very busy. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The kalua hash patty & eggs was ono. Will go there again when in Hilo.”
“Super delicious carnitas street tacos! They make their own hot sauce too. And the tacos are so flavorful and moist, a lil crispy. Perfection. Shredded chicken is great also.Parking: Big open gravel parking lot to park in. Just drive into the open metal gate/fence.”
“This restaurant was so good that I decided to start writing Google Reviews - the world needs to know how great this place is. We stayed in Hilo for 5 days and ate here twice. Every single thing we ate was excellent. Our most well-traveled group member decreed this as the best Thai food he’s ever had in America. The curry was spectacular - especially the green curry, the masaman curry, and the red pineapple curry. We also enjoyed the pad Thai, coconut soup, green papaya salad, spring rolls, Thai tea, and mango sticky rice. You really can’t go wrong!Ohi and Lotus were so kind; they even gave us recommendations for local activities as we were waiting for our food. It sounds like they grow most of their vegetables or buy them at local farmer’s markets. Everything tasted so fresh! If you like Thai food, you will love this place.Vegetarian options: Tofu as an option for most dishes”
“I found a penny on the sidewalk and thought, "a lucky day"... Fast forward to finding Paul's Place in Hilo, which was truly my lucky day find! It's important to note, you MUST HAVE RESERVATIONS to enjoy Paul's Place experience. After chatting with a local couple, they recommended Belgian waffles. Paul has spoiled me for any other waffles, forever. I will travel far and wide for his waffles. Also, the fish sandwich was beyomd perfection. The mixture of ono and ahi has spoiled my husband's taste buds and raised his bar of approval!”
“We will definitely return to this wonderful Cafe! From the get go, it was delightful. Our server was as sweet as honeysuckle and well versed in the food choices. We loved the taro burger and the bean burger. The gluten-free bread was outstanding. A must visit!”
“Great creative food and really refreshing assortment of seltzers and beers. Usually a lively fun atmosphere. The large dining area was originally a Chevrolet dealership showroom ?”
“Best coffee ever!!! They are super consistently good and their staff is really nice. The standard size for their drinks is way bigger than other places despite being around the same price as other shops. If you like sweeter stuff, get the Ube latte!!”
“Super service..it was a personable young lady. Must be good timing ordering the cold vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and 2 sandwiches because the wait time was minimal. The noodles were really good and it fed 2 adults for lunch. Lots of pork that was seasoned just right for us. Ordered a chicken and a pork sandwich but we were so full from the salad, that will be dinner. Judging by the weight of the sandwich...must be packed! One star off for clear pricing on menu. No receipt so can't share the itemization.”
“Best bakery I've been to on the big island. I had the bearclaw, brownie, coconut macaroons, and shortbread cookies. They are all soo good! Definitely want to go back and try everything else.”
“Everything about this place is just awesome, great place for a small breakfast on the go. Homemade and made fresh breakfast sandwiches. Vanilla Chai blended was made perfectly and surprisingly tastey. The fruit boat is a genius idea. There is a million things inside the store to look at I was almost overwhelmed. Very creative and interesting decor. This place can be busy as it is mainly a breakfast spot and high quality. You can dine in but the small bar was occupied, probably best for take out.”
“My husband & I stopped in for a small quick bite and we settled on the nachos with chorizo added on as our meat choice. How can you go wrong with nachos right? They did not disappoint! The nachos were plentiful and delicious. The chorizo was very flavorful and toppings were plentiful. There were a good amount of tables to sit at, under covered area. The service time took about 25 minutes, but the gentleman taking our order was up front about the wait time which I really appreciated. The only observation we made was that there was no hot sauce anywhere. I should have asked the man in the window if there was hot sauce or jalapeño for purchase as I like my food a little spicy. Next time I will and there will definitely be a next time. If the owner is reading this, can you tell me if you offer hot sauce or jalapeños to add on? Thank you”
“A great stop and definitely worth a trip! If you want to see the oven in action, you should go on Thursdays (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.). Free tours are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All information is on the homepage! We thought the tour was great! Be prepared for some history lessons too ? The area is also beautiful - would be great to use it for other events as well... (although there are many mosquitoes, so bring some repellent)”
“What an incredible pizza place, we ordered 4 different pizzas and weren’t disappointed by a single one, our server was friendly and on top of it. So glad we stopped in here! Worked great to keep our girls busy with the fun games they have as well!”
“Great variety. Everything looked delicious. I tried the savory scone and a lime pie. So yummy! Staff were friendly and helpful. Pop-in, pop-out place, no room for hanging or tables to sit. Good location. Will definitely be back!”
“Rather small storefront for a fantastic group of coffee roasters. I got the Kaū, since they didn't have any of the liberica roasted, and we unfortunately didn't have time for them to roast some, though I wish we had. The coffe was a great treat to bring back with us. The woman at the counter was helpful and knowledgeable, a big plus and sets them apart from most of the places we went to. Highly recommended for black coffee lovers.”
“Best take out sushi in Hilo hands down ! Place looks unassuming but this is the only place I'll order sushi from . I haven't had a chance to try other items but I've tried their poke and hamachi and ahi sushi rolls . Fresh fish and good quality and reasonably priced . This is honestly better than the other "reserve a table a year in advance" places . In my opinion .”
“I got a pork lemongrass banh mi for $10. I've never had banh mi before so I can't do a comparison to other ones available on island, but it was delicious! If you do drop by, they only accept cash so come prepared!”
“Such a cute place outside of Hilo. I enjoyed the snacks and drinks that you can get in their cafe. It was very ono and I like that it’s locally made. The garden is really cute. I like seeing all the local plants there and the wall of crown flowers. The bunnies were very adorable as well. It’s the perfect location to explore. A quick stop at the end of the scenic route. Or you can hang out on the patio with friends and enjoy the cool breeze.”
