I texted ahead a couple of weeks before our visit to Hilo and got reservation for breakfast for two mornings at 8 AM. Loved everything about Paul’s place. Food, coffee, atmosphere, friendly conversation, great location, easy free parking, all was very good. If you’re visiting Hilo, text ahead, and make eating at Paul’s place a top priority.
We got lucky, not knowing reservations are strongly recommended, we walked in and were seated, what followed became the best meal of our entire Big Island trip.
From the atmosphere to each plate, the experience was consistently impressive. My wife and I shared the Eggs Benedict and the Pasta de Marco family-style, both were outstanding. The meal made it easy to understand why this place has such a strong reputation.

If you're visiting Hilo, do yourself a huge favor and don't miss brunch at Paul's Place. This tiny spot only has a few small tables (total seating for about 6 folks at a time). Reservations are mandatory, but a visit is well worth it!
Paul is a sweetheart and an amazing cook. His secret ingredient is love. He really loves what he does and that passion for his craft really shines through to the entire experience dining at this small hole-in-the-wall.
