My wife and I ate at Don’s Grill for lunch on Sunday, and we both enjoyed our meal. I had the Mixed Plate, while my wife had the Seafood Platter. It is, as its web page says, “home-style comfort food.”

Service was great and food was delicious. French toast was awesome definitely in my top for French toast. Sausage links were huge and delicious. Wife had eggs and spam and loved them as well. Pancakes were good as well. Definitely my breakfast spor from now on when I come to Hilo.

Large menu, good service, good food. This place is an old school classic diner. Been around for longer than many other restaurants in Hilo. If you’re hungry and looking for an affordable tasty meal, this is a great place to help you out. Food came out quickly, hot and fresh. Nobody left hungry.

Yummy Banana Cream Pie, Chocolate Cream Pie and homemade Cheesecake preceded by Chili & Rice, Liver & Onions, and Teriyaki Chicken. Everything tasted good and packed with home cooking flavor.

Today, August 2nd, 2025, my wife and I went to Don's Grill. We’ve been there before, and the food was poor—one time even just mediocre. It had been over a year, so we thought we’d give it another try. Don's Grill didn’t let us down… the food was terrible.
I ordered the Reuben sandwich, which was cold, soggy, and tasteless. My wife ordered the grilled beef liver which was cold and unseasoned. She ended up vomiting four times.
The employees who wait on you are five-star, but their cooks and the food they serve are a big ZERO.

I've been coming here for years. They are quick to seat you and get your order. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The quality of the food is excellent and you will have a hard time finding a better deal for the price. And don't forget dessert!

We've been wanting to check out this great family style restaurant in Hilo for some time and it did not disappoint! Oh my gosh, amazing lasagna and we also had the fresh ono and the sample platter. Everything was done homestyle and was delicious. The food came out of the kitchen superfast and the staff was very friendly. Overall, this place is a winner for a nice sit-down family dinner
