One minor feedback, shrimp tempura curled up in to a ball inside the batter instead of the usual length of the tempura today, batter is still amazingly crispy. Besides that still the best and tastiest okazuya I’ve ever had. The flavor of the food has been consistent for the 60 years I’ve been eating here. The workers and the customers maintain that unique Hilo friendliness and charm.
Such a gem of a place and I hope they never change! There's so many food options and it's great to be able to pick what you want and try a little of everything. We got a huge box full of fried ono, nori chicken, Korean fried chicken (the best here!!), musubi, long rice, Mac salad, and veggie tempura (SO good). Went there with my family for a quick breakfast- the line of locals was a good sign. Call in ahead if you want something specific. The long rice was good with the crispy mahi mahi. Affordable grinds! They open at 6am. Picnic style bento option for Hilo town.
