I have always loved Luquin's restaurant. The original Pahoa location was stellar, sadly burned down. They relocated, in Pahoa, and the new location is still quality restaurant. We visited the newer HIlo locations a few months back. Everything was fine until our last visit June 23rd 2025. I decided to try something different, I ordered the beef nachos. What a HUGE mistake, when the plate was delivered to our table I was a little confused it didn't look like any other nacho plates I have ever had. I was a MESS, All the chips were smothered with beans, a spoonful of guacamole and sour cream. It was a sloppy eating ordeal. the worst part was, it was the worst tasting nacho plate I have ever tried. Taco Bell's nacho plate was 3x times more flavorful. Whoever prepared this dish should be fired . Not sure if these are new hires. I ate about a 1/3 of the plate. The waitress asked if I wanted a take out plate, I told her no. What a dining bad experience.

They don’t have any salt or pepper on the table, asked for salt because the chips were tasteless and the waiter handed me a plastic cup of salt, very odd they don’t have salt shakers
We Ordered margaritas and they were the worst margaritas I’ve ever had! Mostly ice and straight sugar! They gave you about 4 oz of actual liquid in your glass.
And you have to pay for Togo boxes !!
Disgrace of a Mexican restaurant! Not welcoming at all. Terrible food and terrible service.

This was our 2nd time here at the Hilo location, and it was great! Friendly and fast service! Food was great, and prices are fair, especially in this economy! 😅 Definitely a new favorite spot in Hilo

No Cheese Dip! No Keiki menu! No ground beef for tacos! What!??? Chips and salsa are nothing special, no taste really. Prices are high especially for mediocre Mexican. Atmosphere nothing special. Cheap to go containers.

Walked in sat at the bar said hello the bartender did not greet us. Instead he threw the menus & coasters at us and walked away. So rude. Will never return.
Service was good. Food has gone a little American since they first opened, the salsa used to be hot and now it's very bland. Overall okay, but I might go somewhere else next time.
