Stopped at Papa'a Palaoa bakery this morning. Ended up buying a loaf of deli rye bread, mint chocolate chip cookies and a slice of coconut cream pie. All were delicious! Sights and smells inside brought back memories of working in my father's bakery 60 years ago.

I'll be back weekly to sample everything!

If you are looking for a cinnamon roll serving as a full meal, this is your place to go! Hands down one of the best cinnamon rolls I ever had
- there’s not a spot that is not covered in cinnamon. The bakery itself is super cute and offers a good variety of sweet and savory goods, even (discounted) items from the previous day. Highly recommended!

Delicious fresh baked bread. It’s a bit pricey but so worth it. They’ll offer to slice the loaf for you if you want. The sweet treats are so good they’re out of this world. I’ve always had pleasant interactions with the staff. Even when they’re busy they have time for a friendly greeting and a smile.
The shop is tiny. No seating, just a counter where you buy your baked goods to take out.
There’s street parking, and a small parking lot just beyond the building.

We stumbled across this gem in Hilo and it instantly became one of our favorite spots on the island. The atmosphere is bright, welcoming, and full of aloha spirit. The staff is warm and genuinely friendly, making you feel like a regular from the moment you walk in.

The coffee is excellent—rich, smooth, and clearly made with care. But the real star here is the bakery. The popovers are unreal—crispy on the outside, soft and airy inside, especially with their incredible lilikoi butter. The rotating selection of donuts and pastries is dangerous in the best way (the ube and maple-bacon donuts are must-tries).

We also loved the savory options, like the breakfast popover sandwich, which was packed with flavor and perfect alongside a latte. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully made, with a nice mix of local ingredients and creative twists.

This is the kind of place you plan your morning around. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee or settling in for breakfast, it’s worth going out of your way to visit. We’ll definitely be back every time we’re in Hilo.

Sitting at my work desk straight off the red-eye enjoying a wonderful cardamon muffin wishing I was still in Hilo! So fresh and delicious. The owner and her team are all lovely. This bakery is a little gem!

The lemon scones tasted good but were hard like rock. The chocolate mint cookies tasted very weird and had an unpleasant texture. The Lilikoi pie was a winner though. It’s the only thing I would get again.

Kristina,
Genuine thanks for prepping my 7 loaf, presliced preorder to fly back to the mainland with last Friday April 4. Y’all care about baking goods and it shows (or rather “tastes”). ;) I didn’t catch your name when we talked at length on Wednesday April 2, so I hope I got your name right. I picked it up on my way back to the Kona side of the island to fly home, along with a slice of coconut cream pie for the drive. Now my little girl’s set for her Hawaiian lunch sandwiches for school for a couple of months. May y’all live long and prosper in the baking biz! Mahalo and namaste.
Warm regards,
That dad and daughter tandem who visited you (x2)

These are 5 star scones. I can't think of anywhere else on the island that has scones that aren't too sweet, just the right intensity of flavor, and giant. The savory scones are also delicious.

This is one of the best cinnamon rolls I have ever eaten. I travel the world searching for cinnamon rolls. This is not an exaggeration. Far and away better than anything I have eaten in Scandinavia. Vegan too! 11/10.

I don’t go out of my ways to write reviews. I came here with my wife and funny enough to a mochi place down the street. As we walked back to the rental car my nose caught something strong and good in the air and immediately knew a bakery was hard at work. I wanted coffee anyway so I let my nose led the way and walked in to find most things sold out already (12:36). I was lucky enough to get the coconut cream pie and let me tell you this place deserves more recognition. Small mom and pop feel and both my wife and I fought over the slice of pie. I wish I was staying on the Hilo side to get this again.

Delicious fresh breads and treats! Everything smelled and tasted delicious. Organic and fresh, definitely worth a stop. We got an apple muffin(Monday treat) and the best biscuits of my life. She even gave us some day old scones for free and my toddler golfed them down.

Wanted to grab a cinnamon roll but on that Saturday afternoon they were already sold out. Small bakery with no place to sit, only take out. A customer in front of me recommend the lilikoi pie which I ended up ordering for ~6$ The staff was friendly but somehow also kind of absent. Cake was good but super sweet. You could share a piece or have the other half later imo.
