Ponds was an awesome dinner spot! The atmosphere was super relaxed and had an awesome view. We enjoyed the food. I had the Cajun Chicken Salad and my wife had the Ahi Tuna which she said was delicious! Service was great and not too pricey. Highly recommend!

We had a great time at The Ponds in Hilo. The staff was amazing—our manager, Shawn or Steven, really took good care of us. We ordered the sizzling steak and fish, and both dishes were flavorful and cooked perfectly. During the day, we even got to experience them ringing the bell for feeding time with the koi fish, which was something you don’t get to see everywhere. The whole vibe was really cool. Toward the evening, a singer was coming in for live music. We didn’t stay long enough to enjoy it, but I honestly wish we had. The portions were generous, the prices were very affordable, and the experience overall was memorable. Highly recommended if you’re in Hilo!

Food is so good! Definitely the highlight of my Hilo trip with the family. Fish and steak were the most memorable dishes

I ordered two appetizers, the crab and spinach dip and the steak with pineapple. Both were amazing, server was super attentive, the environment is perfect. They also let us feed the fish!

This is really great spot to grab lunch. The fish and chips were the best I have had on the Island and the steak was cooked to perfection. Service was really good. Definitely will eat here again. $$

A Very Pleasant Lunch

Ponds is a no nonsense eatery with a rustic dining room, great views and very good food. My one complaint is that the information on their website is several years old, and many of the items we were interested in were no longer available and prices were considerably higher than expected. That said, I still recommend Ponds. The Beer was about as cold as it could be without being frozen. The Crab Dip was especially good. The Calamari was nothing special, but good enough. The star of the meal was the Mango Cheesecake - simply the best we have ever tasted. Give Ponds a try - I think you will be glad you did.

From across Reeds Bay, the restaurant exterior exudes old Hawaii, and you get the same sense when you walk into the main dining room. We were taken to the other dining space to the left, which also overlooked the bay, which is a serene, calm portion of Hilo Bay just west of the Port.

We walked over from our hotel, but there seemed to ample parking in their lot and surrounding street parking. It seemed to be a quiet Monday night for the restaurant, save for the exuberant birthday crowd in the main room. Live entertainment in the form of a solo singer was installed in the main room, so if you prefer a quieter ambiance (although the music was quite mellow), ask for the other dining room.

Our server was quick and friendly, not batting an eye when taking my dinner order - appetizer and a dessert, to be brought out simultaneously if possible. Hubby was pleased at the selection of craft beer on tap, and loved his Furikake Seared Ahi Ceasar Salad, commenting on how fresh the fish tasted.

I was a little disappointed that the Hot Crab and Spinach Dip featured fake crab, and the creme brulee was your standard creme brulee, but nothing to complain about.

Attentive waiter and nice staff. Clams and gumbo were great. Their special of lobster pesto was pretty rough. Overcooked lobster but seasoned well. That pesto sauce was pretty foul, drenching it in the butter for the lobster didn’t even help it.
