Rueben's Mexican food offers a delightful culinary experience that combines traditional Mexican flavors with a modern twist. Their menu is filled with a variety of options that cater to different tastes and preferences. From classic dishes like tacos and burritos to unique creations such as Mexican street corn and churro ice cream sandwiches, Rueben's Mexican food has something for everyone.Parking is easy during weekdays.
It's dinner time after a long day of exploring and you don't want anymore tropical fruit, mac nuts, or fish (all delicious btw)....you just want something pretty much every decent sized town/city in America has. The restaurant has a casual vibe with really pretty paintings on the walls. The menu has a great selection of combination plates with decent sized portions. I'm a guatón, so grabbing a chimichanga plate plus a carnitas quesadilla filled me up. It would probably feed two people but like I said, homey needed to refuel with something big and tasty. Also this place is definitely wheelchair accessible; I'm not in a wheelchair but the whole place was really flat with the entrance level to the street. No stairs or ramps needed. Other people must like the food because the place filled up as we were walking out.

It's ok but a little touristy pricey- would probally only come back if they allowed my dog to hang out under the table.

Super good. We brought our two toddlers in, my daughter ate everything, son ate ice cream. My husband and I had carnitas and a beer/margarita. Fantastic. Wait staff did great!

Service was incredibly good but the food was terrible. Probably the worst tacos I’ve ever ever ordered from anywhere in my entire life. Flabby tortillas, chicken, iceberg lettuce, and American cheese… I’ve had better tacos at t bell. Not authentic whatsoever, not to mention it was 30$ for 4 of those terrible tacos.

Delicious! Chips and salsa are homemade. The green salsa is SPICY, but so worth the pain! Chicken mole is one of the best I've ever had. Flan did not disappoint either! Parking may be hard to find but this place is worth it!!

REVIEW UPDATE: The rice & beans are really good today! My chicken Mole is excellent. The guac is exceptionally good today as well. It's all very good.So growing up on Mexican food in Arizona, I am rather particular. I have been here twice, here's what I have to say: shredded beef taco is actually really good despite the fact that it's not deep fried like I'm used to. The machaca beef is delicious and the shell is light and crispy. The salsa & green hot sauce are pretty good, just needed a bunch of salt added. The Chili relleno is actually quite nice but the beans & rice are both sub-par. The Carne asada had great texture but no flavor. The people are great and the place is really cute. It’s fairly expensive but it’s down town so I guess that’s to be expected. All in all, without better options this will probably be my go-to in Hilo when I want a full sit down Mexican restaurant experience.
