The most disgusting food and the worst customer service. How is this place famous. The old lady at the drive through and every single one of them are bitter rude and the food is moldy and gross. DO NOT COME HERE.

Tex Drive-in is a classic on Hawaii Island!
The famous malasadas are very filling and delicious as rumored. Even if you are not good at English, the staff are very kind and you will have no problem. Food other than malasadas is also very delicious and recommended for lunch ^_^
The restrooms are clean and it's a perfect place to take a break.

I love stopping at Tex Drive-In on my way from Hilo to Kona. The burgers are excellent, big and juicy on a delicious sweet bread bun. Gotta get some hot maladas to go ?. And the service is always full of aloha. A local experience you don't wanna miss!

Parking: Lots of parking right near the entrance. Also there's a little garden opposite the restaurant, on the back side of the parking lot.

Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There is a sidewalk. Bathrooms have wheelchair accessible stalls.

I like the malasadas better than Leonard's in Honolulu.
And I love Tex's loco moco.

It's a very old building and when I drove into the parking lot, my wife didn't even realize this was it. So not a great immigration but we tried it anyway because it's famous.

They do have a drive-thru, but they also let you order inside at the counter and have an indoor/outdoor eating area.

I noticed the two types of patrons were either really old folks, or clearly locals. Interesting.

The steak and shrimp teriyaki was so-so. The steak was not tough, but it did have a leathery texture. The shrimp were battered well with good flavor and cooked crispy.

My wife had the kaluha pork and cabbage. Thanks goodness for cabbage because the meat was very dry. Mac salad was pretty decent, but then again, it's mac salad.

And of course we tried their famous malasada. I got the guava filled which in hindsight I think was a mistake. It was overly sweet and far too over-filed. The breading was not soft and overall kind of bland.

And all this food was pretty expensive. Unfortunately, even though it's a neat place, I can’t rate them high on quality.

Good was good, but they charge money for tap water and an extra plate. Bathroom smelled like a hamster cage.

We tried the Ahi plate ($22), the chicken burger($12), and the breakfast burrito with cornbeef hash ($14). The ahi was ok but small, the chicken burger was very small for $12 and looks like it was straight out of a freezer. The cornbeef hash was definitely straight out of a can...maybe I should have known, but I was hoping for better quality food for the money.

Also, the bathrooms were gross. There was piss all over the floor, old poop splattered on the wall, and only a bar of soap with hair on it.

All that said, the Malasadas are pretty good.

Too much bread on the burger to be honest. The teller needs to smile a little even a little would be nice. Over priced burgers. 11.85 plus tax for a single cheese burger. Too much anywhere! Malasadas are great.

We were staying 60 miles away and it was a 90 minutes drive, but made 3 trips to Tex Drive-In in our 9 days on the island. We only had the Malasadas, but they had a big selection of breakfast and lunch items on their menu. The wife is not a sweet eater, but had 4, with bavarian cream being her favorite. I had banana cream, chocolate, and bavaian cream, along with a plain one, and you gotta go with a filling. To be fair, we were driving by the place twice and stopped, but the third time we were 30 minutes away, but like finding a good beignet in New Orleans, it was never going to be too far.
