We had the best meal in Oahu! The service is also amazing. Whoever rates under 5 should be sent to Seattle.

Decided to try Aburiya Inushi and the food and service were great. Do not let the slightly worn and rough around the edges interior fool you, it is actually a great place to have a meal. We tried many dishes, I'm always surprised when the vegetables dishes are done very well, it shows that the same attention will be given to the other dishes. That being said, highly recommend the potato salad, I think it's the seasoning they put on top but regardless,it's a must. Also with the eggplant and minced meat is very good. For the meat eaters, definitely get the pork belly, it was delicious, especially with the light char on the meat, I just wish the prok belly was placed on the cabbage instead of sitting in the juice, but it still tasted great. The barbecue beef tongue was tender and delicious, especially when paired with the greens and wasabi. The barbecued skirt steak was very tender and cooked perfectly. The fried octopus was just okay. The rest of the dishes we had like the sausages and mushrooms were good. Overall, it is a very comfortable place and the food is tasty. Definitely need to make reservations a day or two prior because it gets busy in the evenings.

The staff was rude. They were nice to Japanese people but fake smile to other races. We arrived right after the restaurant was open. They let us wait for one hour, while there were multiple tables empty during that hour. They arranged us to seat in a table exact by the door, with door open the whole night. I asked if we can seat in another table, they refused And guess what, that empty table kept empty until we left. Very poor service. The food was ok. But with very small portion.

Restaurantji Recommends
The chef has good grilling technique. Authentic Japanese small dishes. Anything made with sauce in it is on the heavy tasting end.
Pickled vegetables: 5/5
Cold tofu: tofu 5/5, meat sauce 3/5
Grilled zucchini, sausage, edamame, pepper: 5
Grilled whole chicken thigh, beef flank: 3, flavor of the meat is masked by the sauce
Oxtail porridge: 4. Not bad, but nothing amazing

Although a small space that’s what makes it so special. Felt like I was back in Japan. The service and food was so worth the wait. It’s warm and intimate and 10/10.

We have been to Aburiya Ibushi before and had a good experience, so we decided to bring our friends this time. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a very disappointing visit.
We understood it is a popular restaurant and were willing to wait over an hour outside. However, when it was finally our turn, the waitress didn’t even lead us to our table; she was instead escorting other guests out. Once finally seated, the service was also very poor: no tableware, no water, and no one came to take our order for quite a while. When we asked for an extra chair for a sleeping child and even mentioned that we will return the chair later if other guests needed it, the waitress still refused, saying we cannot use it. Yet, we later saw her use a chair at another table just to hold a bag (not a human!!!!), and there were other unused chairs available even before we left. As a result, one of our guests didn’t have a proper seat during the whole meal (no one cares at all!!!).
It’s really unfortunate to see such a sharp drop in service quality compared to our past visits. The lack of basic care and attention completely ruined the experience.
If you are looking for a place that values its customers and provides attentive service, I will recommend choosing another restaurant.

Aburiya Ibushi is one of my favorite izakayas to go to! The portions are small, but that’s exactly what makes it perfect for drinking and sharing a variety of dishes. Prices are reasonable, the ambiance is cozy and authentic. It really reminds me of an izakaya in Japan.
The staff are always super friendly and quick with service, and I love that they stay open late. It’s a great spot to unwind after a long day or catch up with friends over food and drinks.
My go-to dishes are the house potato salad, fried chicken wings, aburiyaki beef, and pork belly, all consistently delicious. Definitely one of those places that keeps you coming back again and again.

Aburiya Ibushi is all about that perfect smoky char — specializing in authentic Japanese charcoal-grilled (炙り焼き / Aburiyaki). Each dish carries deep, savory flavor with that unmistakable grill-kissed aroma.
Reservations are HIGHLY recommended — seating is limited and fills quickly. The bonus? You can stroll right next door afterward for incredible desserts at Cha to Gelato Zen.
Solid izakaya lineup packed with flavor and texture.
- House Potato Salad (ポテトサラダ)
- Ewa Sweet Corn (とうもろこし)
- Lotus Root (蓮根 / れんこん)
- Wagyugyu Beef Tongue (和牛タン) & Chicken Thighs (鶏もも肉) — absolutely phenomenal!
- Ahi Tataki (マグロのたたき) — perfectly seared and seasoned.
Compact but comfortable setting with clean bar and table seating. Ideal for a relaxed dinner date or hangout spot.
Friendly and proactive staff. Our server went above and beyond — even checking dessert openings next door at Cha to Gelato Zen.
Parking is limited, so expect to walk a bit. Worth it once you’re seated and smell that charcoal.
