Amazing Italian food - the mushroom fettuccini was perfect. This place deserves way more than a 4.1

Assaggio is one of our favorite restaurant in Hawaii, we move to mainland and every time we visit Hawaii it is mandatory that we need to have a dinner in Assaggio.
We usually go to Assaggio in Mililani cuz it’s closer to my mom’s house, but because we are check in waikiki we tried the one in Ala Moana.
It was our first time to experience that kind of customer service my mom live in Hawaii for almost 20 years and told me that it was her first time to experience that kind of customer service here in Hawaii. Our server went to our table in a rush not even smiling, my husband asked for alcohol drink recommendation that is something refreshing and she said that they don’t have anything like that. We order our favorite Caesar salad she was pushing the trolly for the salad the cheese fell on the ground and she was so upset about that with herself, made the salad in front of us and serve it didn’t even offer parmesan cheese before serving the salad so we have to wait for her to come back and ask for it.
It was so disappointing to be honest. We are hungry and excited to eat with one of our fav restaurant and get a treatment like that. I think we need to stick to the place we usually go to and will never come back to the one in Ala Moana.
The other server host are nice and also the hostess its really our server who is the problem.

Food was ok, but for the price you would expect a proper balance between flavors, and the meat sauce to be more robust. Not sure if we were exiled to the battered corner due to having kids in our party, but the chairs were peeling off the faux wood coating.

Assaggio is our favorite resturaunt in Waikiki. We have been coming from California for over 10 years and this is by far the best compared to all , even the high end like Halekulani and the Royal Hawaiian. It is the total package. Call for reservation and David pleasantly takes our request .He also serves as the host when we arrive and seats us where we request. We always request Danny as our server because he is spot on as the best. Greets us with a smile and pleasantry and gives us first class service from beginning to end. The food is spectacular and compares to our favorite Italian resturaunt in NYC which is family owned for 35 years. You must give it a try! Frank Correia

I would love to come here but the old carpet has an Unenjoyable smell.
Why don't the owners rip out the carpet and stain the concrete or put down a nice laminate floor??
Always get the large...eat half and save the other for lunch/dinner the next day. Lol does everyone do that or just me?
You cannot go wrong with the selection of veal, chicken, veggy, and seafood pasta options. My family and I had a variety of dishes...I got veal alla sorentino. For the price, large portions, and the free table side bread, we visit this or the kahala restaurant a couple times a year...earliest memory is from high school.
There is no background music playing, just a nice atmosphere with people all around you chatting, eatting, drinking, and enjoying themselves.

The service was great. The bread and butter were delicious. I wasn't in the mood for seafood or Alfredo so I ordered their carbonara pasta and (because I was just craving some mozzarella) their mozzarella sticks.
The carbonara was not a typical carbonara and I would not recommend it. There were a lot of onions for some reason, which were cut strangely, and the entire sauce was bland and a bit translucent. There was hardly anything egg-like or cheese-like at all. I would equate it to 2% milk, with regular carbonara being whole milk.
The mozzarella sticks tasted like decent string cheese that were deep fried. They also came lukewarm and the center of the stick was like if cheese was left out at room temperature. We told the waiter and they later brought the plate back, reheated. Only, at that point, the mozzarella sticks were soggy.

I want to start that the food is great & mostly the service is good.
Last Thursday (3/13/2025) my wife & I ate there. I was presented with a bill for $138 but then when they came back with the bill for me to sign it was $160. I asked and they had no explanation. I asked to speak with someone but nobody showed up after 20 minutes. I had to leave because we had to get to the pharmacy for my wife after her doctors visit that day. I don't know if the cashier is just stealing from customers or ripping off the owner too.
It's a shame because the food is so good.
I have disputed the charge with my credit card company.

It was fine but not worth the price
Food was fantastic. My kids all gave it 10/10. Service was prompt and staff was friendly. I will be going back soon, highly recommended.

I have only not tipped once in my life. This was going to be the second! The least friendly, coldest waitress ever. She was so rude, so uninterested that she leaned against the edge of the booth and could only utter, "small or large" after each of us ordered. A petite Asian waitress with a tattoo of the symbol for "female" on the back of her arm... My wife suggested that maybe she was upset or having a bad night, but then my daughter saw her laughing and smiling and having a good time as she talked to the bartender, as our drinks sat unfilled. If you hate your job so much, move on. I actually feel sorry for you. How miserable you must be to treat people this way. We ended up leaving a a small tip because we hoped it might show you that you can be loved, even if you show no love. Still, maybe the worst dining experience ever, simply because of a terrible person.
