Love this place. Came in here with some of my friends to study after the coffee shop we were at closed, and I am absolutely coming back. Everyone was so welcoming and kind, the owner (I think) came over and chatted with us about school and made us feel so welcome despite taking up a big table for a few hours. The environment was just so homey, as a college student who came from a small town, this was really the environment I have craved since moving here. LOVE IT AND GET THE FRIED RICE IT IS TOO GOOD!!!!

Love this place! We have a wonderful server for brunch! He memorizes our order without writing it down, he is so personable that it brightens our morning, and always gets our order right! The boneless kalbi melts in your mouth, the fried rice is so Ono! The Ani's French toast is yummy! The only thing is my friend tried the Kim chee fried rice and was disappointed because it was sweet! So she did not eat it. But I gave Big City 5 stars because I love their breakfast and wonderful server! It makes our day! Thank you, Big city diner! Thank you, Lane!Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly.

Went here while visiting Hawaii January 2024. This is the original BCD. My wife said it was her bus stop growing up and has been there a bazillion times. My in-laws eagerly brought us to area BCDs over the past thirty years during each visit back to Hawaii ... my wife jumped at the Costco gift cards. We don't know what changed so much in the past two years since we were at a BCD, but wow, we all felt the Costco gift card deal is a last gasp for air before this iconic establishment implodes ... I mean, for our party of six, all of us were unaminous each dish sucked. Even my Polly Anna daughters who get upset when I don't give good reviews thought this should be called out: * ordered $10.49 Cheese Fries and $12.49 Loaded Tots as appetizers. The Cheese Fries came with a light sprinkle of unmelted shredded cheese ... we joked, "did you run out of cheese? Is your cook on his way to the grocery store?" The Loaded Tots were as bad ... just burnt crumbles of bacon bits, nothing else. No photos. * Four orders of Fried Min. "Mediocre" to "terrible" was the consensus. $61.96. * KC Fried Rice and Eggs, $18.48, mediocre per my daughter. * I saved the worst for last. Fish and Chips. I am on a global quest to find the best. I thought Hawaii might have it. Instead I came upon the worst. Theirs are worse than those frozen fish patties one could buy in the 1970's ... so bad. See photo. The one star rating, other than I have to give it, is for our awesome waiter named Jimmy per the receipt. He hustled and bustled and was super attentive. He needs to work elsewhere and cash in. Five star service for subpar, egregiously bad food. Jimmy! Come on, dude, you can do so much better. The place is a dump. We entered through the back and saw the ancient and gross kitchen. I would be surprised if BCD still exists our next trip back. A strong stay away ... unless you want to poach a great waiter.

The food and service had always been great. Visited with owner Lane Muraoka who was assisting staff this Sunday. Very personable and attentive. Always great food. Their Chili is so homemade and wonderful without thick gooey additives. I had the Taco salad, always a great choice.Vegetarian options: Mahalo to the folks at Big City diner waialae in kaimuki. The original. Reasonably priced and great service. Mahalo to all.Frank Reuter

I had the salad n sandwich combo! A turkey and cranberry sandwich!! With a fresh salad. It was perfect!! My friend had a portobello sandwich n fries. Her sandwich was delicious too. But the last time she had that sandwich the mushroom was bigger than the bun. This time it was smaller than the bun? Our server was "on it!" (Sorry didn't get his name) Will go backParking: The kaimuki location sucks!! I went to the machine to pay for my parking. No problem. Go to the exit, couldn't read the screen!! TRIED scanning my ticket, no luck! The gate wouldn't open. There were about 9 cars behind me! I pressed the help button, no one answered! I went to the cars behind me and explained, they let me go behind a car. He scanned his ticket and we both hurried out before the gare closed!!! I was panicked wondering how I was gonna get out!!! Technology sucks!!!

Omg. Ordered the Haupia Macadamia nut short stack and side of bacon. Everything was delicious. Double A+ on the bacon. Cooked perfectly with the crisp to perfection. We split the dish with the coffee. Great pleasure dining here Our server Greg was very personable and attentive. 11/26/23

One of the best hole in the wall diners! Service, friendly and yummy! they had a great kids meal deal going and were able to add in a quick take away order before leaving! Love that they are near my nail salon so I can get a fresh set and fresh dinner all in one stop!

I don't really eat here much, but the CO workers wanted to give it a try. The service was fast and friendly and the old school diner feel was cool. But the prices were a little steep for "diner" prices. I decided to try the "grandmas" meatloaf and was very disappointed....my first bite was just sour....like when meatloaf is just about to turn, but you can still get away with serving it by crisping it up on the flattop. But, it was obvious that it was pretty old next to that the "sauteed" vegetables that came as a side were a tad burnt and overly dry, like theyve been sitting in a warmer for a couple hours, but the gravy was good....for a dish that cost me over 20 bucks I was greatly disappointed, my co workers were not impressed by their meals in the same way. All and all I don't think I'll be back here to try anything else.
