By the taste of it, Golden Eagle has a new owner or a new chef or both! I've been going to Golden Eagle off and on for well over 30 years and maybe even since they opened. Being Chinese, I judged Chinese restaurant pretty much solely by the quality of their food, and Golden Eagle has gone up and down as its changed ownership over the years. It started out good, then after some time when down, then up again a few years ago, and now, in 2025, it's up up 📈.
Last week, I stopped by for traditional vegetarian e-mein to celebrate my mom on her 101st birthday, and it was the BEST e-mein I've had in Honolulu for a long time. The noodles were al dente, not broken, and cooked dry style with a delicate seasoning that brought out the flavors of the dish. Many local Cantonese restaurant drown their dishes in thick oyster sauce. Not Golden Eagle.
Given the surprisingly deliciousness of the e-main, I went back last night to test my theory. That theory is looking less like conjecture and more like fact. I bought fried rice with salted fish and diced chicken (咸鱼鸡粒炒饭 haam4 jyu4-2 gai1 lap1 caau2 faan6) - again for my mom because it's her favorite, and it was perfect. Not too oily, tinged rice grains that easily separated, and they didn't skip on the salted fish. I also picked up their Hong Kong style chow mein, and I imagine it's exactly what you'd get in Hong Kong alongside your dim sum.
So bit thumbs up! I definitely will go back to try other dishes like their scallion noodles, hot shoyu ginger chicken and dry style beef chow fun (so hard to get a good one!). And maybe I'll pick up a combination plate: Beef Broccoli, Sweet Sour Sparerib Ginger Chicken, Crispy Gau Gee Fried Rice. Can't go wrong with these!
(I only do take-out at Golden Eagle, which is always fast. Definitely don't go there for the atmosphere.)
We were there for lunch on Wednesday. A guy came in yelling and the guy who served us yelled back and they had a shouting match in the middle of the restaurant. The staff totally ignored us because they were more interested in the fight . Later they went outside to yell at each other some more.
Best Black Bean Chicken ever!
The Cantonese food here is consistently excellent. The owners really care.
Be sure to try the gua gee appetizer. Delicious! Excellent Chinese food.

Good quality American Cantonese food is harder and harder to find these days but Golden Eagle is still serving up your favorites. Good classic dishes, quick and efficient service to go. I even kind of enjoy the aging interior, at least the Anthony Bourdain infected part of my brain appreciates the aesthetic.

This restaurant is run by a couple, They guys are very friendly and provide warm service. The food is delicious, the portions are good, and the prices are very reasonable in Hawaii. I hope more and more people from all the world will like Chinese culture and enjoy the Chinese food!
Highly recommended to Chinese compatriots. Uncle and aunt are very friendly and warm to compatriots, locals or people from other countries. I wish uncle and aunt good health and prosperous business!

First time.
Last minute selection to get something different.
Service was quick.
Unfortunately, the scallops were the bay scallop “small” size, very little mushroom, and the portion size seemed a bit small compared to the price.

because of your restaurants failure to properly package a delivery order for me, instead of putting it in a bag that's sealed you put it in a box and it wound up spilling all over me after heavier items that you placed on top of smaller items crushed. not only is my entire uniform for work ruined but I have to take at least an hour off to go clean myself you're costing me money right now
