Excellent experience here. Our waitress Siri and the service that was provided was fantastic. I had the 3 Combination plate for lunch with Sashimi, Butterfish and Tempura which is my go to meal there. Highly recommended.Parking: Easy to find parking other than Sundays.

When my parents told me that they were going to Gyotaku for dinner, I called the Niu Valley location from the mainland to try to pay for it as a surprise. The cashier answered the phone and told me they usually don’t do that and put me on hold. I waited for 6 minutes, hung up and called again. Maybe she forgot about me. She put me on hold again for 6 minutes. At this point, my parents might be finished eating. I hung up and called again and no answer.Maybe my expectations are too mainland now but wow… I thought the Gyotaku staff would be more thoughtful.

Very flavorful. Again, my error for not checking the menu. Was hungry so just order what was familiar. Crab cakes should have been appetizers, not a side dish.

Food was very delicious, place is very clean and very well kept, the service was friendly and professional. The desserts were all good as well. I would go back.

Haven't gone here since the pandemic and been going here lately and it's been good. Good food, fresh, tasty. Good service also! Like it too cause it's near by.

Overpriced dining experience for sup par food. Miso soup was tasty, edamame was cold and under-salted. Tempura was maybe the worst I’ve had. Godzilla Roll was average. Our server was friendly but the hosts were not.

Service was good, food was overpriced for portion and quality and dishes. All dinnerware was plastic which never feels great when your paying above average prices.

This post is not for the food which is pretty decent most of the time (hit or miss). Hey Gyotaku, save some $$ and get rid of your phone. You don't answer it anyways. Some of us don't like on line ordering and rather speak to someone. Called lots of times, no answer. Just ring ring ring. Here's a test Just for the heck of it. I was parked out front and called the number when it was opened for lunch. I saw one couple walk in and get seated by the male who works in the front. I called the number and saw the male look at the phone and just ignored it. There it is folks, don't bother calling, you will be ignored. Must have slammed business.

I just picked up an online order from the restaurant. It appears that similar to many restaurants, they are experiencing staffing challenges. When I entered, I waited almost 5 minutes at the front counter with no one acknowledging my presence. An older couple entered and walked to the front of the dine-in line where they were greeted and led to their seats. The front of house person then disappeared once again into the kitchen. I saw that my take out order had been on the rear counter of the POS area since my arrival so I went there to retrieve it; It was then that the front of house person finally ran up and reprimanded me for being back there; I know I was wrong, but her curt manner and lack of tact (Read: "customer service") was insulting... "Don't ever come through these doors again!!" were the last words I heard as I left the premises. Once again my sincere apologies for my incursion, and I reiterate that I was wrong, but the response was totally unwarranted and not what I've come to expect dealing with numerous hospitaiity clients and establishments over the years. I left with my order, but I can't promise her I will never return due to the lack of reasonable alternatives for Japanese food in East Honolulu.

This is a Japanese restaurant that is probably more popular with locals than Japanese. I felt that the quality of the food did not match the price. The rice I use for rice is not tasty.I think the overall impression of the meal would change if the rice was of a better quality.postscript:Thank you for your kind feedback, even though it was harsh.I live in the Kahala area, and your restaurant is the closest Japanese restaurant to my house. We look forward to seeing what updates and developments will come in the future!
