I was made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome here from start to finish. First, I found the parking confusing- orange cones in all of the spaces with a “Reserved Highway Inn” sign on them. There was a guy that seemed to be an attendant walking around. I saw him move a cone for another car after talking to them. He then disappeared. I was confused so I called inside and the girl that answered said, “I dont know”. I finally found parking on the street and ran in to get a quick bite. It was around 3 pm and there was only one table sat in the entire space. I went to the takeout counter and ordered keiki kalua pig sliders (9.99) and a coke. When I signed the credit slip, she had charged me $20.37. When I asked why, I got, “I dont know”. I then gave her a questioning look and she said, “maybe inflation” and dismissed me. I was so shocked I didnt say anything further. I sat down at one of three of what appeared to be communal tables next to the takeout counter and was given my food and started to eat. After 5 mins, an employee approached and told me that I had to leave as this was table was reserved. One communal table had a party sat, one was empty where I sat and the third had a couple of kids sitting at it that obviously worked there and were taking a break. Two fully empty tables available in the takeout area at 3 pm and I have to leave because there is a reservation? Maybe ask the employees not to take up space for paying customers that have food in front of them. FYi these are picnic style tables, they are no place settings or menus or decorative items on them. I asked if I could finish at one of the tables in the dining area (separate from the take out area) as all of the tables were empty, she said no. She told me to go eat outside. I was so shocked, confused, and insulted that I just left; almost in tears as I had not only just paid 60% more for my meal for no valid reason but then was sent out to sit in my car to eat when the entire restaurant was empty! I was so upset, I would not want to go back here again. It seems there are several reviews with the same complaints of indifference and poor service. Im not even a tourist, I cant imagine being on an expensive Hawaiian vacation and being treated in such a mean spirited manner.

Had the hawaiian fried rice. No taste and very mushy. Coffee was not hot. Very disappointed. My first and last visit to this iconic establishment. Sorry but the service was excellent.

Pork Lau Lau Platter - 4 stars
Squid had a delicious coconut sauce. Pork was decent. Not used to poi that's slightly fermented and sour.
Mixed short rib and chicken platter - 4 stars
Meat was overall well-seasoned and well-cooked.
First of all we came on a Saturday nite around 6pm. Everyone in your party needs to be present. You put your name on a list and they'll let you know when your table is ready. We were told for that time it would be around 20minutes and sure enough, we were called in 20minutes. However one friend was still looking for parking but even with her arriving, the wait wasn't long.
I don't eat Hawaiian food as I'm pescatarian but I love squid luau and that is what I ordered. It was delish, I only wished there was more of it. I also felt like certain sides should just automatically come with it like lomi lomi as that's more of an accompaniment than a side imo. I also could have used more rice. lol.
Items are served on plates that remind me of elementary school dishes where everything is divided. It was all very tasty and service was good. I'll definitely come back as my kid loves laulau chicken long rice. My friends laulau looked awesome.
Parking was definitely a challenge at that time so be mindful.
