This place was absolutely perfect! From the food, ambience and our table side freshly made dessert we couldn’t ask for more!

There are many other reviews saying that this restaurant is racist.

I told him 3 times that I would pay after the meal was over.
The staff just said that the server in charge had to pay, but the server in charge only served other tables and didn't even pay attention to us who were right in front of us.
After waiting for 30 minutes, we thought we would have to go to the counter and pay in person, and when we left, the server in charge, thinking we were running away after paying for the food, came running towards us like he was catching a thief.
A white employee with ponytails.

“You looked busy?
We'll pay and go.
Keep doing your thing.”

When I asked, the server in charge said he was sorry and that I didn't have to tip if I was offended.
I can't believe they provided service like this and asked for a tip...
They don’t provide any training to their employees here, right?

Meanwhile, the server in charge said there were no computers here and told me to go back to my seat and pay.

“I’m going to pay in cash, so should I go back to my seat?”

I told him to just calculate it here.

When an employee who is not good at English even calls me and nags me for 10 minutes to follow the dress code, you guys should properly train your employees!
I really ruined my mood on the last night.
I've been to Hawaii many times and tried all the famous steakhouses, but this place is the worst.

HY's was one of the best places we dined at this trip. We will definitely be back on our next trip.

We had the Filet Mignon, and it was perfect. The atmosphere will take you to... Well, you will have to see for yourself.

The decor and art are very nice and fit perfectly with the rooms.
The parking is valet only right at the front door.

The staff are all very good and were not fussing over us unless there was a need. The food, drinks, and appetizers all came out perfectly timed and it was a great dinner.

Add all this to our anniversary and it was a beautiful night out. 10/10

Disclosure: We live in Vancouver, Canada & are accustomed to amazing food. Hys was good. Not great. The food was fine. Service was good. We were treating a large group. Every highly rated reasonably priced red wine we wanted to order from the wine menu was sold out. It took us 30-40minutes and an extra $50 to find a palpable wine ( $145 US )
The quality of meat is good. Fries on the side is so incredibly disappointing. It’s McDonald’s fries, or frozen McCain fries lukewarm, no seasoning placed next to a $100 cut of steak. True steakhouse fries need to be thick cut, sizzling hot, properly salted & in their own vessel. How is that acceptable , I have no idea. Another issue is the cheese bread. We have been to a few Hys. One in Vancouver most recently. The best part of their cheese bread is the warmth & gooey factor which is because of the tinfoil it is wrapped in. Tinfoil is not fine dinning I agree, but Hys Waikiki needs to find a better alternative. We were served lukewarm cheese bread in a metal fruit bowl lined with a decorative doily.
We spend $2,500 Canadian for 10 people. Steak itself & staff are great. However, we will never go back
I will not

Very disappointed! I walked into a steakhouse with fancy front, however leaving with discontents.

I had half dozen oyster of which quality was inconsistent. One was extremely skinny I had to ask to return, they gave me another that was too dehydrated. Then it’s the steak… New York Strip - steak was over seasoned with peppercorn and pepper making the steak overly spicy. Fries… McDonald’s fries done in old oil… Steak Oscar - king crab was ok, steak was fine. Problem is the asparagus.. man the stems was pretty dry and bitter. For a $100 dish I expected better quality.

On a separately note… we were sat next to a big group … they had loud disturbing kids and parents didn’t even try to control them. We complained to our host waiter… he did nothing about it. Later another waiter returned and offered us change of seats… without approaching to the big group and addressing the loud lines problem to them prior.

I mean… all in all… below standard fine steak house.

Alright, this place is the biggest tourist trap I've ever witnessed. They have a strict dress code, the interior is really nice, but the food is absolutely atrocious. The bread sticks are mozzarella sticks, the vegetables are similar to the microwaveable ones you can get from the store, and the steak has zero sear, overcooked, and not basted. It also was a terrible cut for a ribeye, extremely fatty throughout. Absolutely terrible. We had to return everything and left. With a fancy front with expensive prices you MUST backup with good food. This totally misses the mark.

I didn't feel like the food or the service lived up to the expectations they set with their prices. I had to ask for things multiple times and I had the wagu steak which was somehow a little tough. Also the knives they give you are painfully dull. After 90 minutes we were asked to vacate our table for another party.

I made a reservation a month in advance, but on the day I was shown to the cash register at the back of the room. Moreover, because it was at the back of the restaurant, it was the worst seat in the house for mosquitoes and insects. I asked the receptionist, Luis, if we could move our seats, and he replied that we had already started eating and that it would be a nuisance to our companions, so we would not move our seats, but if there were seats available , why not show us from the beginning?I asked him why he didn't show me to my seat from the beginning if it was already taken. Luis, you are not allowed.
And the steaks are not as good as Wolfgang's and Ruth's Chris.
Finally, when I ate my dessert, the spoon was chipped and cut my mouth. I told them and the manager came and apologized and asked me to leave my name and contact information before leaving.
But when I got out of my seat and in front of the exit, no one came to apologize or ask for my contact information. I went out of my way to call the manager and ask what was going on and was told to write down the details on the complaint format for employees. Why do I have to write it down before I leave? You guys know what happened, right? Why didn't they come back to apologize at the end? Is it because we are Japanese? I am a local living in Hawaii. I will never recommend you to anyone around me in the future. I am even more disappointed when I heard that the parent company is a Japanese company.

Omg! This place is the best I’ve ever had, from the cheese bread and french onion soup to the A5 wagyu ribeye with lobster Mac… it’s better than mastros in new port

Had the best experience here due to the awesome service from Jerrell K., Judy, and staff! The steaks were cooked to perfection, the Caeser's Salad made by Jerrell was delicious, and the flambé dessert was excellent. I would highly recommend Hy's Steakhouse. We really enjoyed our dinner!

The worst of the worst restaurant ever in my entire life. Please do have a dinner at Hy’s steakhouse IF you’d like to get violated by them with despicable racism on your lovely vacation. And what makes it even more horrifying is that they insisted on you to wear certain attire such as shirts with collar for men and No sandals allowed however, from the hostess at front desk to the manager has zero respects and manners toward their own guests especially when they think that “THEY ARE NOT LIKE US”.
We went Hy’s on my birthday dinner night and soon as we arrived, the hostess at front desk told my husband to change his attire that its not allowed to dine in this restaurant but we were informed by our concierge that the designer sandals are allowed so i told her about what i heard but she kept saying ‘it’s not allowed’ and so they are going to prepare some suitable rental cloths and shoes for him and led us to wait at the WAITING AREA. I already didn’t appreciate the fact that the way she talked to us with such lookdown attitude, but it was my birthday dinner and i simply didn’t want to ruin our mood for that night so we were about to move to the waiting area and yet there were- i believe that some white families coming into the restaurant wearing sandals and i thought to myself that ‘oh, the waiting room is going to be quite crowded’ Meanwhile, the hostess guided us to the place where the restroom doors are. Where the spare chairs filing up right in front of restrooms. And the white family didn’t come to wait with us. Instead of that, they went straight to their table while me and my husband were sitting in front of restroom. I was trying my best to think that there was some miscommunications so i went up to the front desk to talk to the same hostess and asked her why they are already seated with their sandals on and we are not. She said to me that they were wrongly informed by their hotel. I thought i gave her the same reason so i asked again. “I think i told you the same wrongly informed by hotel issue earlier and yet we are still waiting at the restroom area.
I’d like to know why we were treated differently.” And she went dead silence just staring at me no blinking just starring and it was absurd. That could’ve been the last good moment that she would’ve apologized and tried to explain under that unfortunate circumstances. Yet, she gave me a look that made me feel offended and kept starring at me. Eventually, the male manager came up to me and said that i should speak to his staff with manner. This was the manager of this restaurant, Hy’s. I was speechless for a moment realizing that i was actually experiencing racism on my birthday dinner night in Hawaii. Since my husband had difficulties communicating due to the language barrier, he also felt powerless not be able to help me with situations. The manager who told me that his name is Tony said to me that there is nothing he can do accept just saying sorry and assist me to my booked table or if i don’t feel like dining here then i can go to other restaurants around this area. I believe that his apology was not coming from his heart but was coming from me crying hard at so called “WAITING AREA” where everybody could see me on their way to the restrooms. The last thing i wanted to do was crying over that hurtful experience with Hy’s staffs however i couldn’t stop crying because they hit me to the very core of my heart as if they were denying the fact that its my origin, my roots and its identity as who i really am. I am writing to you to let you know that if your staffs keep going to treat your guests with such hideous manners and your guests keep feeling humiliated by their racist attitude then you should change your attire code to “WHITE ONLY”
