I had a super uncomfortable experience here and it was because of a language barrier. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee and an older gentleman behind the counter made it. It was so sweet I couldn't drink it so I asked for a less sweet coffee. The gentleman said he would bring me a less sweet one and didn't say anything about charging for making a new one. I also remember coming up to the counter and putting my card in, but I don't think the older gentleman charged it. So I sat down and drank the less sweet one but could only drink my drink for a few sips. At this point I heard a woman behind me ask for a new drink because hers was too sweet. Then the older gentleman came up and asked if my drink was okay I said yes but I still felt it was too sweet. I got up to leave about 5 min later and the lady who runs the shop yelled after me you have to pay! A customer did as well. I went up to the counter and said I thought I was charged. She said, you didn't pay! Then showed me a list of payments on the square app. She made a big scene and raised her voice and I said ok I'll pay again she said you just need to pay because you asked for a less sweet drink-noone said this when I first asked for a less sweet drink. Every one in the shop was watching now. I paid and I had also left a tip before when the older gentleman didn't charge me when I first came up and swiped my card. I then said the drink is too sweet so I'm going to leave it. She said, okay, it's too sweet. I left my drink on the counter. Not going back because I feel like I was blamed for the older gentlemans mistake of not charging me when I first swiped my card.

I would give 10 stars if possible. upon entering insomnia we were greeted by the two people working with so much enthusiasm & kindness that I would come back just to be greeted by them alone (im assuming they’re the owners but not entirely sure). they suggested an iced Vietnamese coffee if we needed a lot of caffeine, we agreed & the coffee was so strong & so tasty! my daughter ordered a strawberry smoothie & it was great as well. while we enjoyed our drinks I listened to them greet a few other customers who came in, & it made my heart so full. the people here are incredibly caring & so kind. 10/10 would recommend to anyone in the area!
I have not tried the food bc I come here regularly for Vietnamese ice coffee! This is the best one I’ve found for Vietnamese ice coffee on the island! Def strong in caffeine ? The owners are super friendly. There is a wait sometimes since they make everything themselves so call in your order ahead of time if you want! They do have tap pay! Street parking or parking garage available!

I love Insomia! My favorite dish is beef Pho for breakfast. Did not know this hidden Vietnamese place right at Kakaako! The owners (husband and wife) are awesome and entertaining. It is cute small coffee shop. Everything is so clean and nice. Convenient parking at the garage in the same building. The owner gives a parking validation valid for one hour. I've already recommended some friends who went there and love Isomia, too!
