Food came out really fast. Uni butter egg yolk is a must try. Also tried the Uni steamed egg which was also really good. Prices are reasonable and food is fresh! Parked on the side of the street in front of restaurant.

Excellent service and some of the best sashimi and sushi I’ve ever had! I particularly liked the two different styles of snapper we were served. (We let the kitchen pick our food, and they did not disappoint.) The servers were extremely attentive and lovely. I loved it!

Great service and fresh quality sushi! We made a reservation earlier in the day and got the quiet room next to the sushi bar.

Big enjoyer of this place. Sometimes hard to find seating on the fly, but they make up for it with exquisite dishes. The Uni Truffle Butter Egg Yolk Rice is a must. Great selection of nigiri as well some excellent mid-weight plates (I recommend the beef tongue). My wife and I love to come down here often, keep up the great work, Uosan!

Underrated restaurant. Food is very good.

My favorite Izakaya on Oahu. The uni truffle rice is to die for.

I’m about to make an party of 8 for dinner, it’s my ever first time to experience a house rule that there’s a minimum spending of $75 per person, or have to order 4 order of their sushi set or sashimi set.

I mean it’s a little ridiculous rule to force client to spend a specific amounts of money or set menu to make up their profit. I’m expecting to spend $80-$100 per person there anyway, however it’s how they deliver their message or tone of voice that force us to buy into their products make me extremely uncomfortable.

There are lots of Izakaya restaurants out there in
Honolulu, I booked another restaurant right away. I’m sorry, I won’t make any further more recommendations to any of my friends and clients from now on.

Good luck with all the customers who enjoy their food.

First of all, I want to say that the service at this restaurant is very good, and the chefs behind the sushi bar are also very friendly. However, this meal was definitely the least cost-effective one during our trip to Hawaii.

Many people recommend their truffle uni rice, but as someone who frequently enjoys similar dishes in Los Angeles and Japan, I can only say it was mediocre. The chawanmushi, with just one piece of uni, costs around $20. The sushi was decent, but the prices were on the high side. A single sazae (turban shell) costs nearly $60, even though this ingredient is not considered expensive in Japan. The beef tongue was also underwhelming—thin, not tender, and far from impressive even with the addition of onions. It pales in comparison to the thick-cut beef tongue you’d find at some izakayas.

In the end, the two of us spent $300 (including tips). In Los Angeles, $300 could get you a very satisfying omakase meal with higher-quality ingredients. And in Japan, there’s no question—you could eat almost anything for this price.

So, my heartfelt suggestion: If you’re someone who doesn’t regularly eat Japanese food, has a generous budget, and wants to try something different, this place might be worth considering. But if you’re already very familiar with Japanese cuisine, you’d be better off spending your money elsewhere—even in a place like Hawaii where great food can be harder to find.

The food was a little overpriced but overall was good and fresh. What pissed me off was the asian waiter. He came to us when we were waiting for our last dish, saying all of our food has been served and implicitly told us to leave. We said there was still one more and he said again there was nothing shown on his end yet he would double check. But right after our conversation the kitchen called him and it was actually our dish. So he brought us the food like “here” in a lowkey rude manner and no apology🙃 really an unpleasant experience at the end of the dinner and totally ruined everything

We tried their Sashimi set for $40+. It was good and fresh, but not mind-blowing. Uni truffle egg yolk was very tasty (which is also what most people recommend). Uni shiso cucumber was great too. Our waiter Daniel was amazing. Grill Unagi was ok.

We had a reservation and arrived on time. To avoid any potential problems consider making a reservation and arrive ON TIME (some other reviews mentioned reservation not honored if arriving too late)

Izakaya uosan is my favorite Izakaya on island. I appreciate the stellar service, calm environment, and delicious food. Some of my favorites include the Uni Truffle Butter Rice, Stingray, Wagyu nigiri with foie gras, and Natto bowl with okra, yamaimo, etc. I’m never let down by the quality I receive at Uosan. Thank you to Daniel and Wing for always giving my friends and I the best experience.

I had an enjoyable dinner here, though it was a mix of hits and misses. My friends raved about the wagyu foie gras nigiri, while I quietly savored the fresh, sweet snow crab. The grilled hamachi neck was decent, and the ox tongue was solid as well. The truffle butter uni rice provided a comforting finish to the meal. I also tried a few nigiri sushi, the fish was fresh. The service was friendly, which added to the overall pleasant experience.

Great selection of unusual fish for their sushi offering. Very friendly service. We will be back! 🍣

I had a super unpleasant experience with the staff at this restaurant. We had a reservation but arrived about 20 minutes late, which I completely understand is our responsibility. They didn’t let us in, and honestly, that’s fine—I wasn’t too eager to dine here anyway, given the good restaurants in Waikiki.

What shocked me was how rude the assistant was. Instead of handling the situation professionally, they blamed me for not calling to inform them and said someone else had already taken our spot. I calmly mentioned that many restaurants double-check before canceling a reservation and their policy about invalidating reservations wasn’t clearly communicated ahead.

To my surprise, the assistant rudely replied, “We’re not your father; you’re over 20 years old, and we don’t need to tell you what to do.” This comment was completely uncalled for and inappropriate. I was fine with not being seated, but there’s no excuse for that kind of rude behavior—especially making such unnecessary remarks about “fathers.”

I cannot recommend this place if basic courtesy and respect matter to you. I will give zero star if I can.
