Very good food. Had the Oyako Donburi. Very favorable. Service was fast and courteous. The place was a little loud as I was there for a Business Meeting and it was hard to hear. But a good experience nonetheless. Recommend.

Small establishment with about 10 tables. Parking is shared with other businesses in the area. Couldn't decide on what to eat so it's great that they have a 2 choice and a 3 choice dinner. I ordered a mini kake udon with 1 piece shrimp tempura, ahi teriyaki and misoyaki butterfish. It came with a small salad, miso soup and tsukemono. I liked the tsukemono and needed up not eating the miso soup since it was too hot at first and then it got too cold when I forgot about it. lol was too busy talking. I was disappointed in the misoyaki butterfish and the ahi teriyaki. Both were overcooked and not much flavor. My friend also ordered the misoyaki butterfish. Hers looked better than mine and she said it was okay. It's good that the shrimp tempura is served on the side so it would be crispy when eaten. I don't know how it tasted since I didn't eat it and took it home instead. I liked the kake udon. Although the prices are good and I liked the udon, I'm not sure I'll be back since my usual order at Japanese restaurants is the misoyaki butterfish.

Brought our two small kids here for their first taste of Japanese food. We got two bento lunches with different mains and a sushi roll. Everything was delicious and our kids gobbled it up. Service was excellent. We will be back for sure!

Although Kikuyu is not fancy nor in a great location I give it five stars. Why? Because the food is always great, the service is friendly and prompt and the prices are super reasonable.

Ooh I almost don't want to write this review. This place is like a hidden secret. This restaurant has some good Japanese food for very affordable prices. I just pretty much found this place on Yelp through a search. We had a little trouble finding it but it's actually in the same parking lot of a Chinese restaurant that we went to once with a friend. There's a lot of parking but it can get crowded because they have a lot of restaurants in that complex. The restaurant reminds me of an old school kind of Japanese local restaurant. We entered and the people working there were so welcoming. They sat us quickly and brought out our water quickly too. We ordered some sushi and some combination plates. I got the butterfish and salmon. When it came out I didn't expect that much fish. It was really good portions. You pay a little extra for the butterfish but well worth it. The combinations come with miso soup, salad and rice. We all left the restaurant stuffed and were all happy that we really found this restaurant. We can't wait to be in the Kalihi area to try this place again.

The food was reasonable and plentiful. Casual dining and family friendly.Kid-friendliness: I was there with my three grand children and they were being kids but everyone was kind.

Waited forever for burnt butter fish. I like alittle char, but this was burnt. Seating is uncomfortable and not cozy.

This is my third time at this restaurant and I had a better experience the first two times. Service was good, food was pretty good, but not great. The tempura batter might need some seasoning or the sauce might need some seasoning. It was bland. Butterfish was pretty good, and the sides were what you would expect. The dressing on the toss salad ended up tasting watery. They normally have really good dressing, however, this time it didn't have as much flavor--watered down.

Went to lunch with my office and we were all happy with the quality and quantity of the food as well as the price. It was really reasonable for the 2-choice lunch box. The fried dishes (tempura, tonkatsu) weren't greasy, but crisp and delicious. My coworker ordered the miso butterfish and sashimi and was happy with the portion size and freshness. The teri beef was flavorful and tender. Great casual atmosphere and they had the tea and water coming throughout the meal. Service was friendly. Also liked that parking was available, even though there are a lot of eateries in this strip mall. Will definitely come back!

A japanese resturant in the heart of Kalihi. The food was great. I had the grilled Ahi and miso butter fish. Both were very good. Ahi sliced thin with just the right amount of seasoning. My daughter had the samon that she said was great, also sliced thin and also with crispy skin. We also had their shrimp tempura which was also great. Crunchy and fresh. Service was also great. Will be returning when we have a craving for japanese food.

Went early at 4:45 pm already packed with diners, but there's a waitlist. Limited parking with all the food eateries all in close proximity. Good value, good food & prompt service.
