Tasty. Comfortable. Relaxed. There are few restaurants where we want to go back, but even during dinner we starting talking about coming back to Mud Hen Water as we ate. They had friendly, attentive service, and each of the three things we ordered were solid.
I first ate here ten years ago and MHW is still one of the best culinary experiences on the island Laid back vibe, stellar cuisine. Highly recommend!
The multicolor beet "poke" was refreshing and wonderfully seasoned. The hand-cut pasta with venison ragout was beyond delicious. The veal meatballs in a luscious chunky tomato compote were light and very tasty. Goat cheese cheesecake for dessert ended a marvelous, inventive meal. I'm never disappointed at MHW!
Delicious food and fantastic friendly service. We enjoyed sitting outside because it was a bit easier for my elderly dad to hear. Inside the atmosphere was really cool too though! We tried a handful of dishes—all very ono—but we most enjoyed the silken tofu with ginger and the Molokai venison ragu. The sauce with the tofu was so good I wish I could get a bottle of it to eat with all kinds of veggies. The sausage and clam dish was really great. I love clams, but the sausage in the dish kinda stole the show! Promise next time we will leave room for dessert. Can't wait to go back to this special place!
My little sister and I came here for brunch on Sunday and it was SO INCREDIBLE! First of all, the food is delicious and so creative. Everything is so fresh and they don't seem to use any/many highly processed foods. It seems very farm to table. Not to mention they serve Hawaiian inspired meals. The fried Ulu was TO DIE FOR, as were the brown butter banana pancakes and the Kalo Hash. The staff was SO friendly and the drinks were delicious. One of the best Bloody Mary's i've ever had. We got 2 drinks each and 3 main courses to share and it was about $100 which I feel is very reasonably priced!!! Especially for the quantity and quality of the food. My sister came for dinner too and it was amazing as well. We went at 1pm for brunch and it was quiet and lovely. The ambiance is amazing too. As much as I want to gatekeep all of this, I also want this Kaimuki gem to stay in business forever so please check it out! Truly amazing and they did not pay me to say this LOL.
Been wanting to go here for awhile and it didn't disappoint. The fried chicken and the carrots were both creative and delicious. The service was excellent. The mocktail didn't have much taste. Next time I'll skip it. Highly recommend this restaurant.
This is our second visit and we had lots of really delicious food! The stand out was the crudo—I could have eaten 5 plates! The pork was super crispy but needed a little something more. Server was awesome!
Amazing! Best in Honolulu I love the staff and service and food it's wonderful I feel at home there.
Food was excellent. Particularly liked the Luau Stuffed Porchetta. Not only was it delicious, but the presentation was pleasing to the eye. Roasted and Raw Carrots were also outstanding. He'e roll was good. I thought the bun for that dish was fairly pedestrian and would have preferred something with a little more texture. Wait staff were efficient but not hovering. At the time we were there the restaurant was not that crowed so noise level was low. Not sure how noisy it gets with a full house.
Amazing food. Probably the best of our entire stay in Hawaii (and we have been to Honolulu more times than I can count) — creative, tasty. Impeccable service. A must.

Absolutely delicious food that is familiar, but with a delicious twist utilizing local food such as taro leaf, coconut milk, and local fish and meats.
Great culinary experience. Every dish was well thought out and flavor profiles were unique and tasty. Simple but strong flavors with fresh ingredients. The family taster was more than enough food but now I need to go back and try the others not included in the taster.
Wonderful and unique foods/entrees.
This is the best restaurant in Honolulu. The menu is interesting and inventive. Everything we had was fantastic. Drinks were delicious and service was attentive and friendly but not invasive. We had the roasted carrots, fried ulu (breadfruit), mapo Tteokbokki, and bread...all flavorful. Really amazing and great value!!! Highly recommend!!!! @mudhenwater
Great restaurant just outside the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. We were a party of 5 and got a table within minutes. Loved the food, which is meant to be shared, service and ambiance.
I personally recommend the fried ulu, the mapo rice cakes, the szechuan lotus roots. My friends also had local fresh catch, handcut pasta and he’e roll.
We finished with dessert. Definitely a must if you’re in town!
