I went to this restaurant the night of my engagement and they were very attentive. We had amazing service insured. The chef's table is amazing!
Visited one of my top favorite restaurants in Waikiki, Mugen. We were celebrating an anniversary with a reservation for two at 6:15pm on Saturday. This seemed like the perfect time to be there with a moderate crowd. Our first time here we had a reservation at 5 and it was a little too early because we had the restaurant to ourselves for a little (unless you like that). The entrance is a hidden little hole in the wall in Waikiki jammed between an ABC store with only a valet desk marking its presence. They only offer valet but it's free for Mugen guests. You enter through a grand secluded lobby, leading to the beautiful Mugen. A small but thoughtful space with an open kitchen layout and subtle decor. For ordering, there are three tiers to the pre-fix menu with the option for 5 courses ($150) or 6 courses ($180) or 7 courses ($200). They also offer supplements and enhancements like a Wagyu musubi or a the caviar course. We had the 7 courses and the caviar course and this was a lot of food! I barely made it to the 6th course! Drinks, we started off with the vaccine, a mezcal with lemon ginger and honey and this was refreshing and not too sweet! We also go the matcha Saturn which was our favorite drink of the night! It was a refreshing blend of floral matcha with hints of lilikoi and citrus! Very refreshing. We also tried nebula's kiss and the bartender's drink of the night a strawberry mule and that was great too! Our favorite courses of the night were the seared scallops! This was a last minute change in preparation but was a pleasant surprise with the refreshing but flavorful Thai sauce with mushrooms and yuzu jam lined dish. The presentation on this dish was exceptional and captivating. Another favorite was the Maine lobster course which we've had before and made sure to get our own this time around! Trying the venison with sunchoke and foie gras was good but I wish I got the lamb too!!! We also loved the amuse and the bluefin Otorro! Caviar service was also gr

The afternoon tea was exceptional. The food was on an entirely different level compared to other afternoon teas at Honolulu hotels. The ingredients were fresh, and the execution was both creative and flawless. The tableware—its colors, materials, and design—paired beautifully with each dish. The service was excellent, with great attention to detail. They not only validated our parking, but when we stepped outside, our car was already waiting at the entrance. Because the food was so impressive, we went ahead and booked dinner at Mugen as well. Hopefully they will wow us again.
Special occasion kind of place. Intimate dining room with impeccable service. The tasting menu is a true treat.

Seating was a little awkward. Should have been seated in the order we arrived at the Valet... instead taken as order out of elevator which was NOT the order we arrived to property. Unfortunately we got the less desirable seating. Otherwise excellent in every way.
Absolutely amazing!!!! This is the best restaurant, sunset champagne viewing and hotel in the entire state of Hawaii!!!' Absolutely amazing g!
Great food. Phenomenal wine pairing program. Superb service. Don't go if you are in a hurry.
Service was impeccable in this intimate restaurant with multiple levels of tasting menu (as well as ala carte options)! A wonderful place to treat yourself to a delicious meal and catch up with friends! (Also the portion sizes are really robust for a tasting menu - we were full by the 3rd course and had to take some of our mains home)!

This was our best meal on Honolulu. Food was Michelins quality. Service was impeccable . Location was intimate. Loved it.
Everything was absolutely perfect! From the ambiance to the food and service, everything is so meticulously prepared and executed to make this a very memorable dining experience. The food is perfectly prepared, and the flavors and textures are so well balanced. Service is what you would expect from a fine dining establishment. The staff are welcoming and well versed in their offerings, providing recommendations on how to best eat and enjoy each dish. They have an extensive wine collection and offer several cocktails. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a memorable experience with great food in a beutiful location. This is a great place for a special occasion romantic date night, or just a wonderful dining experience and night out. Will definitely be returning!
