Chicken katsu was crispy on outside and moist in the center. The dipping sauce was on point. Decent price for the quantity of food.
Used to live nearby and was a regular. Moved away and still came in because so onolicious and affordable. Not sure what happened in the last year that made prices go up 60% and quality go down at the same time, but I’ll miss you North Shore Grinds. Thanks for keeping me fed all those years.

I finally found a traditional Hawaiian spot in Oahu, and North Shore Grinds absolutely delivered! The chicken katsu was incredibly fresh—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. I also tried the #3 Hawaiian plate, which was an authentic, hearty, and delicious taste of local tradition. And let me tell you, the mac salad did NOT disappoint. Creamy, perfectly seasoned, and the ideal complement to the rest of the plate—it’s the kind of side dish you could eat all on its own. On top of the amazing food, the customer service was outstanding. Friendly, welcoming, and truly made me feel like family. This place isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience that captures the heart of Hawaiian hospitality. If you’re looking for a genuine local spot that nails both food and service, North Shore Grinds is a must-visit.

It's a small place but the food was delicious. We had kalua pork, mahi mahi and teriyaki chicken. All food was flavored well and cooked perfectly. Great place to get take out.

Food tastes good but was room temperature. They were not busy at all yet they couldn't warm up my food? It seemed like it sat there for an hour. Food took a long time too. Its really for take out only place is too tine to sit in.

I've visited this shop about 6 times in the past year. Its close to my work place and my coworkers like eating here.
I find the food inconsistent in taste. My coworker constantly buys one entrée and he says the taste, or quantity is always different.
I typically get the chicken katsu plate. Its good and I believe is consistently the same. This time I got the herb crusted ono and it was a big flop. I understand the fish is alittle tougher in texture, but the herb crusted part didnt elevate the dish. Without the garlic aioli sauce, the herb crusted ono would have been bland. The fish was not crispy and the herb topping appeared more decorated that tasty.
All-in-all this is my baseline drive inn style food.

What you gonna say this is a takeout place and the picnic tables out front and the counter at the window is where you can pound your plate lunch and poke so that’s what I did and Boy! Did I enjoy the food!
I had the Combo with pulley neat and mahi mahi. I also got the spicy garlic poke and a small tub of the imitation crab salad.
First the crab salad is FIYAH! I can tell they’ve taken the time to perfect it. It’s so ONO! Take some home and stuff some fish with it! The Garlic spicy ahi Poke is MENTO GOOD! Plus NO Mayo and Sirracha which works for me. I’m old school save the Mayo for the Pork and Beans not Poke.
As for the plate lunch I was skeptical about the Mahi with white sauce yet it was surprisingly still crunchy I could go for just a plate of it in the future because the mahi was juicy and crunchy too!
My favorite item is the Pulehu meat it was tender and juicy and so good with the rice! I could taste the marinate in shoyu but I’m happy didn’t use sugar. I hate places calling their Pulehu meat/rib and they marinate in shoyu sugar. Truth is Pulehu meat is kissed with Hawaiian salt and nothing else. Fo”real Pulehu meat is supposed to be ONLY HAWAIIAN SALT. Add anything else and it’s teriyaki or kalbi. Hawaiian food is straight forward no garlic salt or shoyu.
So Therese guys keep it simple hopefully consider making their Pulehu meat with just Hawaiian salt? No shoyu.
I’ll be back here! My feeling was hurt because they post Beef stroganoff but they ended that. I I was them maybe bring it back for one day a week. I would like to try that with butter noodles.

The best smoked meat plate I had in Hawaii! I didn’t even know what Hawaiian smoked meat is but we will definitely be back. We were welcomed by the owner and his daughter, they gave us recommendations and even had us try Aku. The kalua pig was also very delicious!! Thank you guys and we will be back 🤙🏻

The Dynamite Ahi Katsu was unbelievably delicious! Picture doesn't do this meal justice as it is a filling entree with a distinguished ahi taste! While I did not get it, I got a sample of the dry aku and man does it take beef jerky by storm! Will definitely be back!
