The best modern omakase in Oahu. Great food, great environment, very personable staff. You’re missing out on the Oahu experience if you don’t attend Omakase by Aung. Mahalo Aung for the perfect Omakase.

I took my mom here for what we hoped would be a special dinner, but unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing omakase experiences I’ve had, especially for the price (nearly $400 for two with tax and tip).

The food itself was okay. I’ve had better omakase elsewhere, but this wasn’t terrible, just nothing memorable. The overall ambience, however, was incredibly offputting. The restaurant felt run-down, with no gas stove in sight - just portable burners. Hygiene also seemed questionable; both the chef and assistant repeatedly wiped their aprons in unsanitary ways, and dishwashing was done right in front of diners in a manner that felt more like a back of house scene than a curated experience.

To make matters worse, the background pop music was blaring, completely disrupting the atmosphere. I actually had to ask them to lower the volume. Other diners were also being loud and disrespectful, speaking over us, and rather than managing the environment, the chef encouraged it. This made the entire meal feel chaotic and uncomfortable rather than intimate and refined.

The chef offered little explanation of the dishes, and I had to interrupt his casual chats with others just to ask what we were being served. It gave the impression that he wasn’t taking the experience seriously.

The location didn’t help either. It was hard to find, with no signage and in a sketchy looking area. From the outside, it looked more like a dump site than a dining venue.

All in all, this was not worth the cost and certainly not an experience I’d recommend. There are far better omakase spots in the city that respect both the craft and the customer.

Chef Aung and his talented team are now my Go-To restaurant for authentic Japanese Omakase dining. Fresh seafood flown in fresh from Japan, Chef Aung creates exquisite dishes that please even the most discriminating palate. Every dish is as magnificently presented, as it is tasty. I bring locals and visitors alike here whenever I want to impress. Lucky for you if you get to dine with this talented Chef. Omakase by Aung! Truly the Best- 5 Trillion Stars! Arigato! ~ Dr Pratt

Overall it’s really good! We had great time here. Chef Aung was very good and funny. All the fishes were great and tasty! It’s BYOB, so you could bring your favorite bottles. And they have a small private parking lot behind the restaurant.

Absolutely incredible experience! The chef and staff are so fun and personable, they really made us feel comfortable and like we were at a dinner party. Chef was playing music and was very engaging with all the guest the whole time. The food was delicious and prepared beautifully. Every piece melts in your mouth and was extremely enjoyable. Highly recommended if you want to have a truly special meal and experience!

Amazing omakase experience (although it was my first time doing one so I may be biased), we had an incredible time and the food was incredibly flavorful. A few favorites were the clam miso, the corn puree soup and the sea urchin on the toasted sourdough (it was the third course) - it literally melted in my mouth, along with the eel at the end (last course before the dessert). All the food was so fresh! The chef was so personable and in between preparing the food, he would shed a little light on his past cooking experiences and that was very cool to hear! Everyone at the bar had a great time. The person who was helping the chef also did a fantastic job! We always felt taken care of, this was just a memorable & tasty experience.
Highly, highly recommend trying this omakase out!

Went here with my wife to celebrate my birthday. This was hands-down the best sushi experience that I ever had. In addition to extremely fresh, delicious and expertly-prepared appetizers and nigiri, the vibe was phenomenal. Aung and his team were personable, hilarious, and hospitable to the point where it felt like I was at a house party with close friends. BYOB was definitely a plus. They chill and pour any bottles of liquor/beer that you bring.

For anyone who’s looking for an unforgettable omakase experience along with a fun date night, this is the place to go. It’s worth every dollar.

Awesome experience dining at Omakase by Aung. Really enjoyed the food as well as the ambiance and friendly environment that Aung fosters. Loved that omakase items were creative and were not just nigiri. Would come back again!

I would rate this place higher if I could. Avery different Omakase experience than the usual but in the best possible. The food is of the highest quality of ingredients and preparation. The chef individually crafts each piece for each customer (we were lucky to be seated right in front of him). The staff is amazingly warm and welcoming. Limited seating (12 seats, bar only) so reservations are a must. It is BYOB, so bring whatever you fancy. Just go and you'll see that this is prob one of the best experiences you'll have; hats off to you, Aung and crew!!
