Lots of options on the menu and I'm sure as with all restaurants, some things are better than others. With that said, do not order the mochiko chicken. First off, it took almost 20 minutes and basically was just a plate of fried chicken with almost no taste (they give you a dipping sauce). Disappointing for sure.

Chicken nanban was one of the best dishes from my entire trip. Only available at this location, 10/10 recommend.

Wow! What a find! The food was delicious! I had the kimchee pork bowl with Japanese potato salad and tossed salad. The portion sizes are perfect. Our food arrived hot and served quickly. I've never had Japanese potato salad and this one did not disappoint. Give this spot a try and you will have leftovers worth eating later! Definitely recommend this spot!

The SALT pioneer of is the best location because they have more items on their menu. Don't get me wrong I love the diamond head location but this one has chicken nanban--One of my favorite dishes to eat in or takeout! highly recommended!

A definite hole in the wall that you would generally pass by you didn’t know where to look. The cashier lady was very nice and recommended the food. Great portions and the food was definitely fresh. The only thing I have to say is I wish they had AC for the hot summer days

One of my favorite go-to places on the island! The dishes are always tasty and fresh, and I especially love the combination of shiso rice, green salad, and a meat dish. The meals are well-balanced — with vegetables, protein, and light carbs — making it a great option for anyone looking to eat healthy without sacrificing flavor.
First time at Pioneer Saloon for lunch. Enjoyed the Mochiko Chicken with the Spicy Mayo. Great friendly service. So much yummy selections on the menu. Will definitely eat at Pioneer Saloon more often. I highly recommend Pioneer Saloon.
So authentic that they politely advise mainlanders about what they're ordering.

Got garlic shrimp. Food was excellent. Service was great. Prices were average for the island.
Got the Mochiko chicken plate w brown rice and ginger tofu salad. The portion of chicken was great. It was hot and perfectly crispy, juicy chunks of thigh. The spicy Mayo dipping sauce it came with was the perfect pairing. Prices were fair, servers were very kind.
Our favorite takeout spot on the island!
