I ate there a while back with a friend to celebrate our birthdays. The server didn't know how to add and then taxed our parking ticket. Food was good but service was not that great.

I recently (April 2019) stayed here during my trip to Oahu and I booked my lodging via Airbnb. I'm really confused how this building works though? Hotel is in the title but I think people live here too. I've stayed at another hotel like this in Oahu before as well, except it was through Expedia. My room at the time had hotel cleaning services but the unit next to me was definitely someone living there full time. I don't know, I don't get it and I know there are a lot of places like this in Oahu but it worked for me! I stayed in a 500 square foot corner unit (estimating) on the 14th floor. It had a queen sized bed, bathroom, sink, mini fridge, and microwave. It was perfect for my fiancé and I. We also had an amazing view of the city and pool. Loved it! Our specific unit was a bit tight but it worked well as we just needed a room for sleep. Paid parking is available for $25/day, full access to pool (bbq area also available), laundry, and gym (one time rate of $5 for our stay, not sure if that's the same for everyone). I never made my way to the lobby but there are some food options (burger spot and a café with pastries and coffee I think). If I ever visit again, I would stay here. It's walking distance from a 7-11, ABC store, and some restaurants. It is extremely close to Waikiki as well. If you're looking for something super fancy, this is not the right place for you. The building is pretty old and grimy, the hallways reminded me of a murder scene from a movie (HAHA) but our unit was clean and inviting with AC. Just be sure about your specific unit and everything should be fine. My Airbnb host was Choi, she was lovely to work with and I recommend her place for sure if it ever pops up on your search! Not too shabby for $80/night!

Walked in, walked out. Seemed like some extra curricular type stuff going on. My group felt uneasy the second we opened the door and didn't want any part of it.

When I think of a monarch, I think of beauty. Not this monarch-it is the hotel from hell. It's one building with air b-n-b, apartments and a hotel. Nothing is coordinated and as a result the place is disgusting. I've been in 41 countries. This room was the worst ever. I'm not exaggerating. We walked out and told them to give us a different room. It took 1 hour for them to do that...and we weren't waiting in line! Meanwhile the time share sales person kept badgering us to sign up for a presentation. The parking attendant was 100% rude. Just to get a key to the gym took 3 different transactions. Unbelievable. Before I booked, I read reviews. And they were good. I wonder if people are hired to write them. Oh. I forgot to mention the newly renovated room had a bed with springs you could feel. I dare the owner to actually go stay in that room....or in any of his rooms. This hotel violates everything a customer wants in a hotel: comfort and trust that they will provide a safe, clean, reasonable place to rest.

We waited over an hour for our food. Other tables also experienced the same wait time. Once we received our breakfast, it was good, but it wasn't worth the long wait. No one apologized.

Avoid at all costs. This place is falling apart and sketchy. My friend and I made a reservation online and upon arrival scrambled to find something else. Motels are better than this place.

Just pay a little extra to stay somewhere better!! Terrible experience at check-in. I've amended my reservation to check out a day earlier, and I've pre-paid in full. When I went to check-in, there was a local girl with gray eye contacts at the front desk. She told me that my reservation was not modified and apparently there was a problem with the financials between the hotel and the booking agency I've booked with. I'm an office manager at a hotel, so I know how all this works... I showed proof that I've amended the reservation so she should've took care of me first by just letting me check-in and figuring out the financials between the hotel and the booking agency later. That was their problem, not mine. The check-in took half an hour while she knew I had my 3 year old and mom waiting in the car. I didn't want to be rude and interrupt as she was on the front desk phone with the booking agency and on her cell phone with her boss(I'm guessing) because she checked in my reservation before I even filled out the sign-in sheet and didn't know how to move forward because my dates weren't changed. Then she told me I owed more money for the resort fee. My booking said that I've paid for all "hotel fees" with the booking agency. I've showed the agent and she told me that is not the "resort fee". So I said ok, I'll contact my booking for that concern. The attitude of the agent was very unprofessional. It appeared that she was arguing on her cell phone and giving attitude asking "how is this my fault?? I didn't know her dates were changed" and then she said "just never mind! I'll figure it out myself!" That kind of attitude in front of guests does not look good even if it's not directed towards the guest. There was no welcoming feels either. Before there was a problem with my reservation, the agent never did smile or make me feel welcomed. After finally getting the room keys, the elevators took a while. Either very slow or not all elevators were working. When we finally got up to the room, the room keys didn't work. My mom and 3 year old had to wait outside of the room. Took time to wait for the elevator again and finally got down to the front desk. I told that same agent that my keys didn't work. She told me to go back up to the room and meet the maintenance guy. I went back up that elevator again. The maintenance guy let my daughter and my mom in the room but told me I had to go back down to renew my keys. I was like "are you kidding me?!" So back down the slow timing elevators AGAIN, and I renewed my keys. I spoke to that same agent and made complaints regarding the pain in the you-know-what it took from check-in, to finally getting into the room so I asked for some compensation for the inconveniences. The agent said she does not have the authority to do any compensations so I'll need to speak to her manager the next morning. I'm sure that was bogus as I cannot imagine that ALL compensations will need a managers approval. It's not like I was being unreasonable. I felt I deserved compensation after that horrendous check-in experience. I called my booking agency to tell them about the extra fees at check-in. My booking agency is refunding that to me, not the hotel. Thank you Agoda! (: I advised Agoda of my check-in experience and they said that they will contact the Hawaiian monarch hotel to ask for compensation. When Agoda returned my call, they have advised that the hotel will not be compensating anything as the key issue was an electrical issue & out of their control. Really? So it appears that every other detail of my complaint has been ignored. Which is why I've decided to make this negative review. Had my check-in experience been good, or if the hotel made this right by compensating me, this review would have been positive. My room was very clean. No carpet

I personally don't understand why this place has bad reviews. I read them before we went but thought I'd see for myself. It's a geat property with so many amenities & in a really good location in Waikiki. We walked to everything. There's a Salt water pool with a nice deck, a few little restaurants, bar & a convenience store that had anything we needed. The little hole in the wall, take out food place in the lobby was awesome! Great burgers & fried rice! Across from it is a coffee shop that had fantastic pinneapple- coconut muffins & great coffee. We went there every morning. We also rented a car from the Smart Car rental desk in the lobby & went all over the island for the day. Much more convenient & the gas was sooo cheap! We used Roberts Hawaii airport shuttle to get to & from the Hawaiian Monarch then used 808 Smart Car for day trips. So glad we did. They even had beach supplies for rent. Super nice too! The hotel room was okay, nothing great but we did see a few of them getting re-done which looked very nice. We also noticed there's a lot of really nice Airbnbs on the property which we didn't know when we booked. Next time we will definitely do an Airbnb there. They seem to be privately owned & very well taken care of. Perfect vacation spot with all the amenities.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! I'm sure you'll see a deal on Booking, Expedia or other sites but trust me go elsewhere. I've stayed at better motel 8s than this! EVERYTHING WAS DISGUSTING. The towels were stained, curtains and rug. The signs all over the hotel were indicating they have an ant problem and much more. They're Air B and B and it's pretty odd due to fees being different ( shouldn't they be the same). They share a parking lot which is $25 a day!!! Like wth is it not included in the hotel fee! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND FIND A DIFFERENT HOTEL. The pictures are obviously a lie.

Horrible!! Window shutters do not work, furniture look like you are stuck in 70's.Bathtub broken and glued I don't even know how many times.Fridge shelves broken, and worst of all cockroaches!!??!!When I tould lady in front desk about that she just keept repeating..we clean our rooms.Way too much money for this. And they charged me extra 50$ for wiifii that is so bad, that minute you leave the room you lost signal, and microwave behinde front desk that everyone shares.Never, never again!!!

Terrible spring mattresses. All but 1 elevator have been broken for 4 hours now. Small TV. You have to go down to the lobby to pick up extra towels, soap...etc..The view is nice. Parking is over priced. Bathrooms have minimal counter space. Walls are thin, we could hear other guest, woke up multiple times through out the night. Would not recommend.

this place is so deceiving. Gross, uncomfortable, and hideous. The parking attendant was a j**** and though I had already paid for the room, she made me give another credit card and charged me again. We were too afraid to leave the place, so we ordered takeout and hid. Never again, Waikiki!

I would give it zero stars. The staff of this hotel apparently doesn't understand it is in the hospitality business. I don't need a five star hotel. Just one that is clean with friendly service. The Hawaiian Monarch has neither. Simply a poorly maintained dirty hotel. Stay away from this place. They charged me an extra $50 for their amenities like a microwave that wasn't in my room and wi if. The carpet in my room was dirty and worn. One night they didn't clean my room claiming I placed a do not disturb sign on the door. The fact is I told the housekeeping person knocking on my door to come back later since I was still dressing. She never came back. My room card needed to activate the elevator didn't always work. There was no security latch for the room door. The paint in the door was peeling. The bathroom needed a major facelift. The staff is not friendly at all. They don't even say hello to you. There was a sign by the elevators regarding notifying the staff if ants were seen. Bottom line. Stay elsewhere in the Waikiki area even if it costs a bit more. .

This is a cute breakfast and lunch place that focusses on crepes. It is in the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel. It is very popular, so we always arrive as early as possible. Service is very friendly and the good is very good. This restaurant is very popular with Japanese tourists, so the menu has photos of all the dishes.
