I’ve never before experienced such authentic, loving hospitality. It was like I was in my grandmother’s living room with eating with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. Very grateful for Chokatsu and Tomoko and their friend’s warmth. Absolutely incredible, tasty, soul-nourishing food. Minna, arigatō!
We ordered the Pork Bitter Melon, Big Feet Soup, Sushi Combo, and Yaki Soba — everything was delicious! What stood out the most, was the warm hospitality of the owners. They were incredibly kind and welcoming. I accidentally left my purse behind, and they kindly kept it safe for me. It’s a small, cozy restaurant with a lot of heart. Highly recommend!
Andy was amazing 🤩 great service
Excellent traditional Okinawan food for a very reasonable price.

I think this place is mostly good if you’re nostalgic for Okinawan food. When I was there, most of the other patrons were old aunties. Tried the shoyu pork, soba, and dynamite salmon. They were all ok, but what struck me was the small size of the portions. I was still hungry when I left.
Reservations are recommended since the place is small. Parking is also tight, you might need to street park a block away.
This is a little spot most will not find but it is terrific if you want a small mom and pop shop. I love stumbling onto just this kind of place, very friendly with good food.

This place is great! We’re visiting from Virginia and decided we wanted sushi. This place had good reviews and I see why! My boyfriend and I shared the sushi and soup which was just enough to share and we went hiking earlier, so the portion sizes were good. The price was amazing. I forgot to take a picture of the sushi before we dived in, but the yellow piece of sushi (not sure what it was) but that was my favorite! Very impressed.

Sunrise Restaurant was truly a hidden gem. It was a convenient walk if you are staying on the strip. It offered an authentic Japanese dining experience at lower prices compared to many other restaurants in Waikiki, Hawaii. It appears to be a longstanding establishment. The food was delicious, with a variety of soup options available. The service was good, and my order arrived promptly. The cozy atmosphere with old photos, added to the charm of the place. Additionally, the fact that they accepted credit cards was convenient.
Overall, I had a great experience and I will certainly be returning.

Super friendly service and homestyle japanese food. I had the sushi with soup and enjoyed it. The place is small, so reservations are recommended. That said, our group of 7 managed a table without any wait.

Ever since a friend took me to the Sunrise Restaurant a month ago, I’ve dined here 3 times. I am so addicted to the pan fried okinawa soba. The first time I had the noodle, I was like “omg, it tastes soooooo good!.” Unlike the regular round think noodle, okinawan soba is thicker, chewier, and more texture.
And the soup is a must-have too. Very flavorful. It reminds me of home. It tastes like the soup my mom makes.
And I noticed the pickled pepper from okinawa. Tastes interesting.

I had my best shushi on Oahu here.It would be the big shushiin on the menu, 8 nigiri and 2 rolls (two pieces are already missing in the photo-:). The raw fish was extremely tender and simply a delight. The rice was nice and sticky and also very tasty. From the outside it doesn't really look like a restaurant. Inside there is a room with a few tables and half of the kitchen can be seen. The impression is that it was a large living-dining room, very American, with a large television on the wall. The service was very friendly. I wanted a beer, I guess they don't have a license for that. But I was able to buy one myself from the shop around the corner and then drink it at the table, great!
