I had my best shushi on Oahu here.It would be the big shushiin on the menu, 8 nigiri and 2 rolls (two pieces are already missing in the photo-:). The raw fish was extremely tender and simply a delight. The rice was nice and sticky and also very tasty. From the outside it doesn't really look like a restaurant. Inside there is a room with a few tables and half of the kitchen can be seen. The impression is that it was a large living-dining room, very American, with a large television on the wall. The service was very friendly. I wanted a beer, I guess they don't have a license for that. But I was able to buy one myself from the shop around the corner and then drink it at the table, great!

wow! what a special restaurant! i am sooo glad i found this place. the family that runs it is wonderful and if you’re lucky you will hear the dad playing the okinawan sanshi, a beautiful instrument. this is authentic okinawan food in a really cool atmosphere that reminds me of some of the japanese restaurants i used to go to growing up in LA that are not there anymore. a must for any asian or asian american who appreciates family owned restaurants! the sushi was amazing, such delicious and “soft” fish. i would absolutely recommend the okinawan soba - the meat was very tender and flavorful, and as my grandmother used to always tell me, make sure to eat the marrow from the bone. super nutritious! next time i want to try the bitter melon dish and more of their soup offerings! i also appreciated the pricing here; you get good quality for the price! do yourself a favor and check out this magical spot :)

I forgot to take pictures. The food was fantastic. I had the sushi and soup combo. Sushi was fresh and delicious. The miso soup was good. The dynamite salmon was amazing!!! The food was really good quality, a good portion and well priced. I called in for a takeout order and the lady was lovely both on the phone and in person. The next time, I would love to eat at the restaurant. It was so cozy and welcoming. I would also get 2 orders of the salmon. It was that good.

A shop run by an owner from Okinawa. In addition to Okinawan cuisine, we also have sushi. The food prices are reasonable, and you can bring your own alcohol so it's cheaper. There are only two parking spaces in front of the store, so please use street parking or a nearby coin parking lot. There are many regular customers, and when everyone drinks and gets excited, the owner performs Okinawan folk songs. It has a strong local flavor, so it is recommended for Hawaii repeat customers.

I understand the hype, and admittedly nat was very happy with her meal; though mine experience was more mixed. I felt the squid tempura had way too thick of a batter (perhaps this is the Okinawan style), but the miso soup on the other hand was delicious and full of fillings.

Exactly as charming as all the other reviews state! The atmosphere is so nostalgic, the food is really great, and it's a really cozy spot that I could see myself going to semi-regularly. Everything was delicious, but we especially enjoyed the dynamite salmon (we re-ordered another portion cuz the first was gobbled up so fast), the fresh sushi, the bitter melon stir fry and the hamachi collar :)

Such a wonderful restaurant! The food was delicious- highly recommend the Dynamite. Our waitress was so sweet and kind and after dinner the owner performed traditional music. One of our favorite nights in Oahu! Be sure to call beforehand for a reservation.

Best no frills, chill feel like you're in your grandparents’ living room eating a meal kind of a restaurant. Came for dinner before, lunch was also amazing. Lots of locals who know each other, we walked in and an older gentleman was casually doing magic tricks for the next table over. Loved the salmon dynamite, sushi also very good! Bob, no pretention, all delicious.

All I can say is wowWould have loved to find this hidden gem earlier in our stay, we had the nigiri sushi combo, grilled mackerel, miso/pickle/rice, and the spare rib soup. All were delicious and amazing overall. The sushi was fantastic, best miso soup ever, spare rib soup was mind blowing, the meat was so tender it was incredible!!! The mackerel was cooked to perfection. Absolutely amazing all around.Highly recommend in every category.

Great hole in the wall spot. Mostly Okinawan dishes. We had the combination that came with a good sized platter of sushi and a perfect sized bowl of pigs feet soup. The soup was pretty good. They had one piece of squash, some konbu, several mustard cabbage leaves, and a lot of pigs feet. The broth was delicious. You can tell that the pigs feet is simmered for a long time in the broth---good umami. The sushi was fresh and the rice lightly seasoned--which I prefer. Service was good and the vibe was like being at your Okinawan aunty's house.I'd come back but I'd try a couple of other Okinawan restaurants first.

Wow, I love this place! Awesome Okinawan food, amazing owners and homey restaurant. It's tiny, make sure you call first and make reservation for dine in.I also recommend you call first for carry out. This is not just a restaurant, it's a community.People talk to each other, come as strangers and leave as friends, I guarantee you that.I took my friends from Germany & Canada here today and they were so happy with the experience. They said it was like eating at someone's house.Especially that both of the husband and wife owners work at the restaurant as a sushi chef and dining room. The prices are very affordable, food are delicious, but most important thing is the ambiance. Welcoming and very cozy.We had the pork and bitter melon stir fry, udon and pig feet soup. They were delicious. And we also get a platter of sushi for $50 (To Go only)Eating at this place is like eating at someone's home not a restaurant.Sunrise Restaurant must be protected at all cost!
