It was a genuine privilege to watch a master at his craft. The food was fresh and delicious, uniquely prepared in front of you. The restaurant is a discrete and intimate experience with only 10 seats (6 at the counter to watch the chef).

We had the 21 piece option and it is truly worth it.

Absolutely incredible omakase experience. Being able to watch each bite be created is truly a treat. Each course was completed with such care and finesse. Easily our favorite dinner on our visit to Hawaii, and would be the first thing I booked on a revisit to the area. The menu was incredible with a variety of things I had never tried plus some of your favorite sushi options. Loved this experience so much. Thank you Sushi Aki!

Wonderful experience! Food was exceptional and service was perfect. I recommend highly. Next time will do the omakase, but the nigiri and sashimi was perfect! Definitely worth it!

OMG. Tonight I visited Sushi Aki on a friend's recommendation and it basically blew away my expectations on what a sushi restaurant should be in terms of food quality, value, ambiance, and service. In a city full of fabulous sushi restaurants, Sushi Aki is a must-visit.Here's the scoop:It's somewhat hidden in the corner of a large parking lot, and its speakeasy-like entrance immediately put me on edge that this could be a special experience. It seems to be an extension of the popular Restaurant Aki next door, but it's actually a completely separate restaurant. As I walked in, I was delighted to see how intimate the restaurant is. I walked past 2 small-ish booths shielded by curtains, and then saw the restaurant open up with an intimate sushi bar that sits maybe 6 people. I was immediately greeted by a super friendly server named Julia who sat me at the sushi bar. Turns out she's fully bilingual (as far as I could tell, at least) in English and Japanese, which is important because the 2 sushi chefs are completely legit and from Japan, which means their English is somewhat limited. My chef's name was Shoheicho (?) and we totally clicked (even though I didn't necessarily understand everything he said lol).Julia presented me with the menu and I was struck by how reasonable the prices were. I was thinking ok maybe the sushi might not be that premium or fresh but oh I was so wrong. Me likes sushi so I went with the full omakase and it was AWESOME. Unlike other omakases, Sushi Aki's offers a range of items including sashimi, sushi, soup, and tempura. I love that variety and it makes for a richer dining experience. Literally every item was yummy but my favorites were the otoro (amazing!), uni (from Hokkaido), crab tempura, and steamed anago. Oh man, the quality was so good I told them they can easily raise the price so sorry for all you folks if they do raise their prices!Special shout out to the staff, especially Julia and Shoheicho, because they expertly guided me through each step of this wonderful omakase journey. Sushi Aki was definitely a memorable dining experience and it will be one of my go-to spots for a long time.

Sushi Aki has only been open for a few months (since late April this year) but seems to have quickly gained popularity among foodies and sushi-lovers on island. After I’ve heard talk around town, I decided to give it a try. It’s located next to a more well-established Japanese restaurant in Kaimuki with the same name and ownership, and lies behind a black door. Inside is so welcoming, with beautiful textures and colors with a signature wall which is reminiscent of the sea.I ordered off of the Ala Carte menu this time, although their Omakase courses ($135/$200) seem to be popular choices. The head chef and all of the staff provided great service and demonstrated diligent care with attention to detail, frequently cleaning off my sushi plate and making sure my drinks were taken care of. All of the sushi, chawanmushi, and tempura were top notch and again highlighted the Japanese care for the customer experience and love for their craft.I understand why this is a popular spot for many and assume this place will continue to exceed expectations, especially with its rotating menu which is updated once a month.

This is a new gem to be discovered in Kaimuki. Located right next to sister restaurant Aki, this new sushi spot hidden behind its unpretentious black door is one of the best in town when it comes to providing an authentic Omakase sushi experience. They provide two tiers of courses at reasonable price points and provide much value with its food quality, service, and overall dining experience. Word is spreading about this new spot, and with its limited seating I wouldn’t be surprised if spots start filling up quick.

Parking: There’s paid parking in the block as well as some off street

Very expensive which wouldn’t have been a complaint had we not BOTH Got diarrhea the next day. considering that we spent $70 for the two of us (AND no drinks ordered), were still hungry at the end, and feeling sick today, I DO NOT recommend this place!

Hidden away behind other shops but a big sign in front. Plenty of parking in the community parking lot. The friendly and helpful staff is very professional. The restaurant interior is reminiscent of a restaurant in Japan. The happy hour (4 - 6) is a good time for 1st timers to get a taste of very traditional Japanese taste. The oden is especially delicious and the broth is fabulous! The sample sushi platter featured very fresh fish as did the sample sashimi platter. Both will be omakase - chosen by the chef - but be expected to be happily surprised. The yakitori - skewered chicken - was also delicious! Price is moderate to expensive based on when and what you order. Well worth a visit to experience excellent Japanese cuisine in a nice ambience!
