My fiance and I have dined at Tanaka multiple times and had an amazing experience each time. The chefs give an incredible performance, the waiters are on top of everything you need, and overall, it is a great time. While the menu might be a little bit of a sticker shock, I can confidently say that you receive more than your money's worth. (Definitely get the fried rice while you're at it.) We love this place. Have been multiple times, and we will be back again!
It's not what we expected with the show. Our guy just made weird noises and failed most of his attempts with the food. He was busy talking about his own interests and making weird noises. Food was good but how can you really mess up steak, lobster and scallops. Broken egg shells in fried rice. The grill was very dirty and it was left unprofessionally even after the food was prepared. Sanitation was questionable. We ordered the same course for entire group but w got different portions of food and some people got more food than another. Photographer was somewhat rude in asking us to pose for photos we didn't ask for. Came back during our meal and started selling the pictures interrupting the meal. We purchase d pictures for $45 because it was a touristy moment but the sell was distasteful. Also distasteful to ask for tip on top for $45 for 3 photos when she solicited the photos without any request. Dessert was provided but the bill arrived along with it. Once again, the bill like the photographer could've just waited until the end of the meal. Small things but it puts a bad taste in your experience.
Our experience here was FANTASTIC from start to finish. We were greeted warmly by the host Harmony. Miss P sat us and was very kind. Our server Kaila was very attentive and amazing at her job. Our chef Patu was excellent! His food was amazing and tasted perfect!! Kekai who works there suggested the restaurant and what we ordered and she was spot on!!
I had the Shogun and I strongly recommend! Steak, lobster tail, scallops and all the fixings, what more could you ask for? Along with the veggies, rice, miso soup, tea and ending with a mango sorbet..truly satisfying. The cook was friendly and entertaining. Very good experience and I enjoy it every time I come to Oahu. Thank you for a great night.
Quantity of food was good, but quality was just ok. Cook used too much pepper on everything. He had a very interesting personality, but was definitely funny. Quick walk from our hotel and easy to find. Service and drinks were good.

Located on the 1st floor of the Hawaii Outrigger Waikiki Paradise Hotel, this restaurant entertains you with a unique performance in which the chef freely manipulates a knife and fork right in front of you. Meat and seafood were very delicious. Since they speak in Japanese, there is no problem in communication.

Good food and excellent service. Every staff member was polite and friendly. Great value for the quality of food, too. Highly recommend to anyone especially for special occasions.

Just a nightmare experience - 2 hours to be seated and get food going (with reservation), an absolute smokehouse inside...like a concerning amount of smoke in the air burning your eyes and throat, small portions of food with no seasonings, vegetables are just onions and mushrooms (no zucchini, broccoli), the shrimp included in the meal is 2 shrimp pieces ??, we got so smoked out that we boxed our food and left as soon as it was cooked.
Sean was nice but not enough to save the night. Everyone around us was pissed. They need to control the level of bookings they accept to maintain quality of service.

Waited an hour after our reservation time. Waited 50minutes for a chef to show up. The entire dining room was so thick with smoke from the grease my wife and I couldn’t keep our eyes open. This place has no ventilation for the smoke and it was hot as hell. The food was wildly mediocre for the price point and the portions were laughably small. We could not wait for it to be over; we packed up our food the second it was done cooking and left. Just go somewhere else.
