Was a great place (before taken over by the bank) but it’s been closed for some time now... They were owned by the same company that ran Cafe Lani downstairs in Alamoana and Gokoku Sushi in Hawaii Kai which are also closed.

Rude service self serve gyoza and egg rolls were cold and mushy tongs to serve food were dirty. Honestly avoid this place so many better choices in the same area.

Tempura was average and expensive. The portions were very small and the taste was average. The macaroni and cheese was ok and the kimchi was good but I've had better. I didn't even bother to try the green beans as it was hard. Considering these negatives, it was ok in a pinch. We went on a Sunday and the wait was not bad but seating in the area is kinda hard unless you're alone.

NOOOOOOooo! I'm so sad to hear! This was my favorite tempura place in Hawaii! This was most similar to Japan tempura! :(

Tempura Fuji is one of the many Japanese-themed food stalls located in the Shirokiya Japan Village Walk of the Ala Moana Center. As you can probably guess, they focus mainly on tempura… battered, deep-fried, and crispy morsels of pretty much any kind of veggie, meat, and seafood you can think of.

My new favorite place for shrimp tempura! They have Sushi and sashimi and steak but the place is named TEMPURA ICHIDAI so why would you order a steak here? Great service and pleasant staff! Date: January 2019 Sadly they have closed quite suddenly!!! Very sad as they had great quality Tempura! Aloha oe!

We grabbed a few tempura pieces while we were here. Specifically, the squid, oyster, shrimp, veggie, and chicken tempura. Some really good tempura choices here and perfect for a little snack while you mull over what you're gonna eat next.

Self serve tempura bar! Plenty of variety! Tried the chicken, mushroom, zuchinni and Jin Dui! All goodies are ono an the prices are reasonable! Spend over $10 at any vendor in the Shirokiya Japan Village Walk and get a ticket for $1 beer or $1 off a pitcher! Plenny of seats! Good atmosphere to relax with friends. The workers at this place are super friendly! Highly recommend this place for hot, tasty and good priced pupus!

Changed the menu. No more udon combos. Tempura is ala crate. So if you want rice you gotta pay $6 for the rice set (with pickled veggies). That would put your entree price at over $30 for tempura. What? A Japanese restaurant in Hawaii charging for rice?! "Yeah that's gonna be a no from me dawg!" But the manager comp'd the rice set for us so kudos to him! And wow the rice was so good - fluffy! But still, $6??

For me, tempura is just tempura.....until I came here. I'm no tempura connoisseur but the tempura here is fantastic. Couple it with the price and it being close to the parking structure at Ala Moana and it's downright awesome. My kids are very particular about Japanese food but there were items that even they were very eased with. Speaking of kids, the staff noticed that we were ordering a bunch of stuff and they instinctively knew that we were to share so they offered share plates and split the udon into separate bowls. They didn't mind having fun with the kids and talking to them. The place was pretty empty but it was 2pm and there were always at least 4 parties there. The place is really clean and they played light acid jazz over the speakers. I've been playing Persona 5 lately and the kids noticed that it's like one of the places you can visit in the game. Lol. They have kale tempura as one of the items. Shocked me at first but it was really tasty. Dare I say more tasty than the roots or eggplant. The steak came on a sizzling platter with carrots and french fries. The photo showed potatoes but again, with the kids, I'm not sure if they adjusted it. Our older son was particularly pleased (he's 10). He said the meat was good and even preferred it with wasabi and the dipping sauce it came with. He also said that the carrots were sweet, like yams. That says something there....when a 10 year old can rave the right way about the food. I haven't tried other places for tempura mainly because whenever I go to a Japanese place, I'm usually getting sushi (which they have as well and is very good), curry, fried fish, ramen....everything except tempura. Maybe because I feel like I can make it home myself but I have to admit, I can't make it like this. If you're in Ala Moana and have the hankering for tempura and a little sushi or steak, definitely check this place out.

Decided to try amidst the shopping frenzy. The tempura was ok, the seafood serving was a lot. The unagi piece was my fave while the kale my least favorite. We got worried that we would still be hungry....so ordered the shrimp tempura roll, which would've been way better without the sauce. Would I come back? Probably not but it was fun to try. The service was quick, friendly and spot on.

Still one heck of place to have fresh tempura. They actually served them right out of the fryer. Around $38.00 per person for the sashimi & tempura set was pretty reasonable. Their rice was especially tasty because it was cooked just right! In addition, they have very tastefully decorated interior. Only thing that I noticed and can be improved was the miso soup. It was served lukewarm & should have been piping hot, the Japanese way.

Tempura Ichidai is located next door to Happy Wahine and across the way from T-Mobile. There's usually parking on that floor ( I think that's the 4th floor) and they open at 11am. I came here before for dinner and I heard that this restaurant is a sister company for Cafe Lani. I met up with my mom and step dad for lunch. My mom wasn't sure if they were open because the doors were closed but the open sign was out. There was a few people waiting outside with them. I can see the confusion so I walked through the doors and asked if they were open. Since this restaurant was higher end Japanese cuisine, I wasn't sure if they were going to walk us to our seats, ask us if we wanted counter or booth. We stood there for a couple of minutes then I asked where we can sit. They left the choice up to us since they just opened. I chose the booth. The booth was comfortable and close to the food preparation area. I thought the decor was very modern and the fixtures above our table was a nice touch. The waiters didn't mention their names and (to be honest) they all kind of looked alike too. haha! They were polite, prompt, and very attentive. Now to the FOOD!! Appetizers - Oyster Tempura. Very nice presentation. Delicious. They gave us 4 - just enough for everyone to have a taste. Entree - I got the Shrimp Tempura Udon, my mom got the Shrimp Tempura Donburi, and my step-dad got the Shrimp Tempura Udon set. We all enjoyed our dishes. The tempura was freshly fried and light batter. The soup was very light flavoring and filling, which went well with the tempura. Remember to drink your tea!! It's a great end to your meal. Unfortunately, we didn't order dessert. We were so full from the entree. My one concern was that our food came out one at a time versus everyone receiving their food at one time. I believe my mom got her food 5-8 minutes after my stepdad and I got ours. Overall, Tempura Ichidai provided delicious food and service. I would come back again.
