For our last night on Oahu, we wanted something a little nicer for dinner. The service here was great! The server was very personable. He brought us a small sample of an appetizer while we waited for our food. He was very quick to refill our drinks. I am a very picky eater, but I love steak. I went for the strip steak with crispy brussels sprouts and scalloped potatoes and taro. I really wasn't a fan of anything other than the steak. The steak was really good but it was pretty grizzly and lacked salt. The scalloped potatoes had an odd seasoning (my husband is an adventurous eater, and he didn't like them either). I have only had brussels sprouts one other time, and I didn't love them then or now. My husband had ribs and fries. He really enjoyed them. So, it may have just been my specific food choice, but I didn't love the food here. It was also very expensive (as many things tend to be in Hawaii).

Host staff not friendly or knowledgeable. Would not recommend having large party or family event.

I recently dined here and while the food and drinks were absolutely phenomenal, my experience was completely soured by the behavior of one of the hostesses. She introduced herself as Kaylene or Kaylee—I’m not sure which, however the interaction was impossible to forget.
From the moment I walked in, she seemed inconvenienced by my very presence. She barely glanced up from her phone to acknowledge me, and when she did, she rolled her eyes several times when I approached the stand. When I asked about the wait time, she cut me off mid-sentence with a curt "I don’t know, I’ll have to check with the servers," before turning around and refusing to acknowledge me. She did not come back with an answer until several minutes later and again said it with such a hostile and aggressive tone.

But it didn’t stop there. While I waited, I watched her interact with other customers, and it was clear this wasn’t a bad moment—it was a pattern. An older couple politely asked if they could sit at the bar while waiting for a table, and she snapped, "I don’t know, ask the bartender." Another family with kids approached, and she sighed audibly before barking, "It’s gonna be 45 minutes. Take it or leave it." The way she spoke to people was nothing short of hostile.

As someone who’s worked in the restaurant industry for over 22 years, I was absolutely appalled. A hostess is the first impression of any restaurant, and this one was a disaster. If she had worked for me, she wouldn’t have made it through her first shift. Hospitality is about making people feel welcome, not like they’re a burden.

It’s a shame because the kitchen and bar staff clearly know what they’re doing—the food and drinks were spectacular. But when your first interaction is with someone as rude and unprofessional as Kaylene/Kaylee, it casts a shadow over the entire experience. Management needs to seriously reconsider whether she belongs in this role because she’s driving customers away before they even sit down.

Would I recommend the food? Absolutely. But only if you’re prepared to endure a miserable interaction at the door.
