bye bye hachibei. so sad you are closing. one of our favorite places!

It was my first time there but the rest of the family had been there before and I understand why they return. The entire staff, especially the server, was so welcoming and provided a very toddler-friendly experience. They even played my granddaughter's favorite songs over their sound system. And the food was so Ono-licious. I ordered some appetizers to take home and the portion size was generous with a price that was so reasonable. We're so sad they're closing. Best to the entire staff on their next adventure!

We went when they first opened and it was empty. Service was great and food taste was very unique and delicious. You go through a wave of flavors that hit the pallet well. Suntory biru was great too. Happy hour was amazing!

Overall, Yakitori Hachibei delivers more than just skewers: it delivers a thoughtful, refined, and joyful dining experience rooted in Japanese craftsmanship but alive in Honolulu. I'll return again without hesitation. Highly recommended to anyone seeking an elevated izakaya / yakitori experience.

From the first plate set down ,I knew the night would be amazing. The 12 course omakase was a great way to try their most famous dishes. The flavors of each piece took you on a culinary journey. Of course we had to try a few sake to compliment the courses. We loved the whole experience. Going to get in the happy hour before we fly home.

We visited Yakitori Hachibei last night and decided to try the 11 course Omakase for each of us. The set came with a variety of appetizers, yakitori, an entrée, and dessert, giving us a full experience of their menu.

The atmosphere was wonderful, warm, welcoming, and lively. The staff was very attentive and friendly, which really elevated the dining experience. Since we arrived earlier in the evening, we were able to get seated without a reservation, but as the night went on, we noticed couples being turned away once the restaurant filled up. Definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan to come later.

Walking in, you immediately notice the grill and the smokiness in the air, which carries into the food. Some dishes were hits for us, especially the scallops, wagyu, and chicken skewers, which were flavorful and tender. However, a few items did not land for our taste, like the mochi skewers, the tsukune (chicken meatball), and the rice dish, which reminded me of onigiri but was not my favorite.

Overall, while we appreciated the smoky flavor and enjoyed parts of the meal, not every dish matched our taste preferences. Still, the atmosphere and service make it worth trying at least once, especially if you enjoy yakitori in a cozy, authentic setting.

The best Yakitori in town. The Chicken meatball is the favorite for me and my husband. It was my first time to have the Lemond Chu-Hi and it is really good. My toddler baby has the Cream Cheese Tofu and she loves it. The host is very welcoming and very polite. Always the go to place for my special occasion.

Appetizer portions are good for sharing. Skewer portions are too small given the price. Coffee dessert is very good.

We had a great time visiting this restaurant for dinner! Such delicious food and wonderful service. We loved the sukiyaki and the A5 Japanese wagyu during the omakase set and the additional shitake and scallop skewers that we ordered ! Wished we took photos of the food but we devoured everything before we thought to do so. Will definitely be back!

Everything was good except foods were not worthy. For ya Kotori, the skewers foods are just basically “cooked” without any chorcal flavor and the meats like chicken balls and other parts are not salted/ preserved ahead. Sausages are basically Maruka supermarket stuffs... The $12 tofu and $12 corns are good. Another item surprised us is the high ball cocktail. overall the quality is slightly better than chain restaurants like Shin sen gumi, but considered the price are doubled its lower than expected. Maybe too much variety make yourself not specialized. I would say as a fusion Japanese American style restaurant it is not bad, but do not expect that it is very authentic Japanese yakitori restaurant.

A wonderful and surprising culinary experience. We were completely unprepared for such a great evening!

This was recommended to me as a “don't miss” before coming to Waikiki, so I had high expectations — and they were met. Hachibei is located a beautiful space, with an open kitchen and Yakitori grill. The ingredients shine here. I've not had yakitori this good since I was in Tokyo (the pork belly is so delicious, I lost count of how many we ordered). Lovely staff. This is a special place.

Owned by Westman corporate is a very unsanitary restaurant. Chefs using their dirty hands touching food they are serving. Service staff are putting spoons on unsanitary counters and then serving them to guests with soup.
Handling raw eggs with unclean bare hands no gloves and serving the eggs to customers. No hand towels for the employees to properly wash their hands with. Chefs washing their hands with no soap and drying hands with dirty unsanitary rags. Food items put in rags and used to squeeze out water of the raw onions they serve. If you want a food born illness... this is the place to find it in your food.
YUMMY... NOT !
