WOW what a disappointing experience! I’ve been going to Yanagi for 30 years & they aren’t the same. The list: only low sodium soy sauce available which their brand has a funky flavor, wasabi has 0 heat, fish slices are thinner, chawanmushi was 95% custard with a small slice of fish cake (fake crab), sushi pieces are smaller in circumference.
The fish is still fresh, but considering we’re on the ocean, it should be. Service was very good.
Instead of raising prices & keeping their reputation intact, they have done what I just outlined thinking no one will notice. I’ve given them raving reviews for many years, it’s sad to see them deteriorating so much. I was looking at all the photos on the wall thinking if those people were to experience the new Yanagi, they would feel the same. Time to find a new Sushi place. I’ll try Mitch’s seafood in a couple of days.

Food was meh at best and they don't allow you to split checks no matter how many people are in your group.

This place has gone downhill. The quality of ingredients and the price per portions are not the same anymore. It's a good nostalgic place but there is a lot better places for value.

Great happy hour after 9 p.m. Their salmon dish is popular for a reason. Their sashimi is decent. The only downside is that service can be slow at times.

Been coming here for over a decade and while they are a Honolulu legacy, they really need to refocus on quality and service. Will keep coming, but sadly they really need a refresh.

The maguro nigiri was melt in your mouth good! Great sake selection. Save your appetite, skip the rolls and tempura, get right to the nigiri!

I had dinner there in one of their private dining rooms. Service was good & fast and the food was excellent. Will recommend to others.

The place changed abit. Staff seem friendly. Our waiter was nice but we had to keep calling him for spoon, refills, and had to look for him to get our check to pay.
Food was ok. The shrimp tempura seemed a bit mushy and my teriyaki chicken was burnt and dry. Had to remove the burnt skin. The place was not busy so not sure why the food was burnt. Oh, and I got my food about 10 mins after my other friends got there food. I did not make any special order of my food so I am puzzled. A simple lunch combo of shrimp tempura with teriyaki chicken. My rice was given to me first then 10 mins later the main item came. It has been 4 yrs since my last meal there.

ALWAYS great food, great service, and great pricing! It's our go-to late at night...usually between 1130pm and 12am.
