The menu has a wide range of Izakaya offerings. My personal highlight was the Bluefin Nigiri Trio which included a lean, medium, and fatty piece of Bluefin Tuna fresh from Japan.

I rarely leave NEGATIVE reviews, but our experience at ZIGU was extremely disappointing.
My boyfriend and I walked in and were told the wait would be about five minutes, which seemed perfectly reasonable. After waiting, we were brought to a table that honestly felt like an afterthought, tucked next to a dirty stairway and directly outside the kitchen door, with staff constantly moving in and out. It was isolated from the rest of the dining area, and no other guests were seated anywhere near us. It didn’t feel like a proper dining space, but more like overflow seating.
We politely asked if there was another table available, as the location was uncomfortable and disruptive. The waitress told us there were no other tables and that we would need to wait another 40 minutes if we didn’t want that one.
What made the situation even more frustrating was watching several parties who arrived after us being told their wait would only be five minutes. The inconsistency was hard to ignore and left us feeling dismissed and unfairly treated.
We were genuinely looking forward to dining here, but the way this situation was handled left a very poor impression. Good restaurants aren’t just about food, they’re about hospitality and fairness. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.
To follow up on the owner's reply on my post, we were told by the host that the manager was in a meeting and she did not have time to see us. We did not leave immediately right after but stayed for the manager to come to talk to us for some time and the manager still did not show up and the host showed impatience of us waiting there as we were some kind of burden. So I did not see the manager come out at all and I do not understand why it is phrased that we left shortly after. The problem is not about how busy your restaurant is, it is about the inconsistency of the waiting time for us and the people after us. If we ask for a table change, we have to suddenly wait for another 40 min meanwhile people who came after us only needs 5 min wait. Besides, I added my name and the phone number to the wait-list as what the host was telling us to and I waited for the whole night and no notification telling me that the table is ready, which means that the restaurant was not ready for us to join the dinner at all. It just feels so fake and I don't know why customers could be treated so poorly here.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. We came across Zigu on Open Table for a last minute reservation. I am so glad this is where we settled for our final dinner in Waikiki. Everything we had was delicious; from the sweet potato salad to the sushi omakase plate. Garrett, our server, made sure everything was great and he was very helpful in directing us around the menu. If you're wondering if this place is a good fit for your needs, it is.

Absolutely loved this place. The food is always incredible — everything is fresh, full of flavor, and beautifully done. You can really tell there’s care in every dish.

Big shoutout to our server David, who makes the whole experience even better. Friendly, attentive, and just genuinely a great guy who is at what he does.

We’ll definitely keep coming back — highly recommend!

Beautiful resturant with amazing sushi. I don't live near an ocean, so I don't get to indulge in fresh sushi very often; However, this place was well worth it! I got the ZIGU roll and the fish was so soft and balanced perfectly with the flavors of the rest of the roll. I also had pickled sweet onion as an appetizer and it was also incredibly fresh with a bit of spice from the peppers they had as a garnish. I highly reccomend you go here at least once on your trip to Hawaii.

Excellent food & service (David). Old building with lousy acoustics that attracts loudmouth customers. Not exactly wheelchair accessible just like so many other restaurants. We came after happy hour thank God! Can’t imagine
the decibel level then! The raw fish was very fresh. Would like to come back for the food, but the difficulty getting in & out with my wheelchair & the loudmouth patrons, I’m not so sure.

We came over since we couldn’t get a reservation for 4 at other places that we frequently visited. It turned out that we all enjoyed the food and service here. The food was not quite traditional Japanese, but instead it used locally sourced ingredients and added a bit of creativity to come up with some really tasty dishes. For example, the local cucumber salad and the Maui pickled onions were great appetizers. The poke was fresh as was the seared ahi (very tasty). The mochiko chicken was tender and tasty (pieces could be a bit smaller). The ginger Kona pork (not sure if the pork is form Kona or just the taste was created in Kona) was tasty but could use a bit more ginger. I am sure the chef has a good reason for that, but I just love ginger in just about any dish. Finally, the spicy soba was quite unique, tasted nothing like soba that we had known and loved. It was excellent and perfect to finish our meal with a bowl.

We also tried its 3-sake flights and even though our server told us the names of each, but we couldn’t remember them, but they all tasted very good.

Our server, David, was entertaining and attentive. We sat outside in the patio area, which was comfortable and looked better than its tiny indoor dinning area. It was a bit pricy even for Waikiki, but definitely acceptable for the nice dining experience. We will add this to our regular dining spots in Waikiki
