BEST SUSHI IN KONA by far! My entire family went and my children absolutely loved how fresh the sushi was. You can either dine inside or outside on their little deck. Service was quick and their waitress was a sweetheart.

Legit locals place run by people who actually know what they are doing! Don't be put off by the location, being a couple blocks off Ali'i is a big benefit. Fewer tourists and lower rent = better food, better service, and authenticity. We did a mixture of tempura, sushi rolls, sashimi, and some yummy salads / noodles. All were delicious. Ask about the daily specials!

Shimaichi has become a go-to sushi spot for my family anytime we are in Kona. The fresh, high-quality sushi is worth returning for time and again. We decided to celebrate Valentine's Day there this year and made reservations ahead of time. When we arrived, the restaurant was quite busy with other couples and families out for the holiday. With just one server handling all the tables, service was understandably slower than usual. However, each dish that emerged from the kitchen proved the wait worthwhile. We ordered a few specialty rolls along with nigiri and sashimi. The innovative combinations of flavors and textures in rolls like the Pink Lady and Black Tiger dazzled our palates. And the nigiri featured thick cuts of the freshest ahi, salmon and hamachi - absolute melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Despite being short-staffed for the holiday rush, the sushi chefs crafted each roll with precision and care. None of the complex flavors or intricate presentations were lost. The exquisite tastes transported us right to the shores of Japan. For consistently exceptional sushi, impeccable freshness and taste combinations that impress, Shimaichi is a must. The relaxed, contemporary atmosphere provides the perfect setting for enjoying culinary works of art. It may take a little patience on busy nights, but the top-notch sushi is worth the wait. Shimaichi remains one of our go-to island celebrations spots.

Sushi was great! Short on servers so just a little slow getting our order in and the food out but not excessive. We ate inside which wasnt our first choice, but no room outside on the patio. Ambiance inside was adequate but a little loud and just ok- not a "special occasion" kind of setting. Clearly a locals place. They get 5 stars for the important things (quality of food, prices and friendly service). We will definitely be back.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars! Had a great meal at this very "locals" feeling place. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and treat you like you're a neighbor. The sushi is amazing! Very fresh with nuanced flavors. Generally we are a sashimi or nigiri kind of family, but we took an attempt at one of their rolls. It was recommended by the server, and the chef. If you come here, get the Shiso Ichi, roll! I promise you will not be disappointed. Will be back in a few days for more. The atmosphere is casual, but do not expect casually prepared food.

Have ordered take out here for a long time. A saving grace during COVID but lately the quality and quantity has gone down significantly. Portions much smaller and not as good as it was in the past. Sad ...

Delicious rolls and fast and easy to call in an order then swing by and pick it up. They do have some limited seating if you want to eat there. I had the train wreck and boy did it look a mess but was fabulous!

I have been eating sushi since 1980 and you will find no better sushi, chef, or sushi restaurant than this little place. Jerry was amazing. If you are in Kona, you must drop in. No fresher fish anywhere. Thx Jerry. Hit 'em Sraight.

Nice, clean, sushi restaurant with kind staff. We were a party of 5 seated immediately and served very quickly so that was beyond expectations on a Saturday evening. Everything looked beautiful and tasted great. Will come back when it's just the two of us and we can be seated outside to enjoy the area w a glass of plum wine. Mahalo!

Stumbled across Shim'a'chi Sushi while looking for a place to eat on a busy night. The availability of parking out front was a deciding factor. So glad we gave this place a try! Fiancé (vegetarian) delighted to find Inari sushi, and the avocado and shiitake mushroom roll melted in her mouth. I had salmon, yellowtail and clam nigiri and a Kona Sunset roll and went back for more! Fresh and delicious. Serving staff was super friendly, food came quickly. Small indoor seating area complimented by an outdoor patio, and a steady stream of customers. Sushi chef recommended eating the Kona Sunset without any soy sauce - definitely! Hope to make it back here before our vacation ends!
