Shimaichi has become a go-to sushi spot for my family anytime we are in Kona. The fresh, high-quality sushi is worth returning for time and again. We decided to celebrate Valentine's Day there this year and made reservations ahead of time. When we arrived, the restaurant was quite busy with other couples and families out for the holiday. Sushi was great! Short on servers so just a little slow getting our order in and the food out but not excessive. We ate inside which wasnt our first choice, but no room outside on the patio. Ambiance inside was adequate but a little loud and just ok- not a "special occasion" kind of setting. Clearly a locals place. They get 5 stars for the important things (quality of food, prices and friendly service). We will definitely be back.

Great sushi rolls. Had the “train wreck” 3 times. On there specialty rolls they ask you to try them first without using soy sauce and they are right. You don’t need it. So good and the employees are super friendly.
