The best old school place in the entire world!!!
Was here 6/4 at 2 ish and I ordered the fish and chips and my grandmother got the meat loaf and has food poisoning now pretty bad just a heads up service was amazing but I guess not the food
Food is decent, but the service is absolutely horrible. Waited an hour today for fried rice and eggs. Ridiculous. Seems like I go here every few months hoping it would have gotten better. But it never does. Other BCD locations are fine. Kailua BCD sucks. Needs new management.
This restaurant makes my blood boil
Service: the waitress proved to me that some should ppl are just terrible--and unfit--at their job. Rude and condescending, her tone biting, the waitress treated my wife, my mom, and my friend as strangers, and worse, as little kids.
We should have known better to step foot in big city diner. Entering the place, we were greeted by... No one. The place was largely empty at noon, with a few patrons parked at the bar and only three groups at the booths.
I wonder why the place was so dead at peak lunch?
Do ppl like the food? I guess it's OK. What about the ambiance? Booths are comfy and private.
What about the service? Oh yeah, the waitress is trash, making an average dining experience into a complete exercise in frustration and antagonism.
Do not usually do this but experience was so terrible, I felt obligated. Terrible service, got the order wrong, got the bill wrong, with staff giving attitude. food is mediocre at best save your money and go to McDonald’s.
My lunch at BCD in Kailua was very disappointing. No one is there to greet/seat you, the 1 waitress was 'in the back' according to what [appeared to be] someone dressed to clean floors. (Sloppy, wrinkled clothing, unkempt hair--a worker off duty? Sitting in the dinning room. ) The waitress did come out and told us to sit anywhere--I had to request the table to be wiped, as there was glass 'marks' on the wood. We ordered and waited 45 minutes for the substandard food. I had the BBQ chicken salad. The luttace was wilted, I counted around 10 flakes of shredded cheese, the tomatoes appeared it was left out for hours, not even sharpely cut with a knife or cold, around 8 pieces of tortilla chips? And one kernal of corn which I asked not to be included. (Why do all the salads come with corn? NEVER heard of that in other eating places.) (I watched another customer come in and sit, and proceeded to wipe their table with their napkins; the husband showing his wife the dirty napkin afterwards!) After dining I asked the waitress why a yellow butterfly looking craft (?) Was taped on the wall above each table. She said it was to discourage the bugs in the air, ( of which I had noticed some kind of bugs flying around.) We left. Overall, we did not feel any kind of caring, professionalism, no smile, thank-you. You couldn't distinguish the waitress from the customers who were all casually dressed. The staff attire was very sloppy and messy looking, and reflected their care-less attitude. The inside looked like it needed to be cleaned; brown stains on the ceiling! We do not plan to dine at any BCD restaurants in the future.
There was a slight problem with my takeout order. But BCD employee Rara was very helpful to resolve the issue. She demonstrated excellent customer service in following up to make sure I was happy with the resolution. I'm happy to know that there are still people who care about their customers and do their jobs well. Mahalo Rara!
It's a diner-like restaurant where only locals seem to be there, but the staff are very friendly and you can get refills of drinks as much as you like, but when I tried to go without refills, they put my drink in a take-out container. .

Had the bacon ham and cheese omelet ( I prefer cheese on top of the omelette as well as in) bacon could have been cut up better so half pieces weren't coming out during each bite.
Best part was seeing pictures of Denver Broncos players around the bar as I am from Denver and a big fan.
Go Broncos.
Will definitely go back.

Too many fruitflies, and flies. I had a tap beer that came with 5 fruitlies, I had to cover the glass with a napkin. They all landed on the napkin and just walked around. I spent most of my time waving off the flies so I can eat in peace. Worst experience ever.
Too bad because the food was great. I told the waitress, she said, "yeau", like it's a normal thing, no, "sorry about that", nothing. The Big City Diner in Kaneohe is better. I was wondering why they call Kailua, Flylua, the abundance of flies. Sad.

Coming from a Hospitality background and degree, I was very impressed with the service, food, and atmosphere while eating here with my family. Firstly, our waitress Terry was phenomenal, attentive, and simply a joy, I’d come back just to chat with her. The menu was very reasonable priced and portion were equivalent, plenty for one or even to share. I’d definitely recommend the Ms. Teri burger, the calamari, and the Mango iced tea. Best service and experience I’ve had in a long time! Thank you for making our dinner so wonderful!

We stopped by Big City diner after a long day at the beach. We had some troubles finding a place to eat but finally stumbled by this restaurant. The staff were welcoming, the facility was clean and the food was fantastic! I definitely recommend the mango ice tea and the Cajun fries.
We had the pleasure of being waited on by Terry. She is without the best waitress I’ve had at any restaurant. She was attentive, fun to talk with, and beyond kind. I can’t recommend Big City Diner enough.

Perfect food, amazing service. Terry is great at her job and the Tempura Calimari was the best dish I've had in Hawaii.
