I do not recommend it at all. They took a long time to bring each plate of meat. The portions are super small. Kimchi is 2 inches tiny plates. Meat is 4 inches plate. In one hour, we only had 4-5 small plates of meat. Then, you took some time to cook it on your own. No staff check on us, everytime we have to call them.Very dissapointed.

At first there was a wait but it’s understandable due to it being a Friday night. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I wanted to say a big thank you to the staff especially our waitress Jada☺️. We celebrated my daughter Moana’s 4th birthday here tonight and we all had a wonderful time especially our birthday girl. If you guys go there be sure to ask for “Jada”. She has a great smile every time we put in an order and she’s very friendly. She really knows how to make you feel comfortable and welcomed. Thank you GEN for a wonderful night. We will be back for sure??.

My boyfriend and went for dinner. The wait was atrocious so we decided to wait at the bar. The was dirty, they had no supplies, the server was awesome ?? though so we ordered appetizers we were going to thug it out. We had drinks ? he made amazing drinks but the appetizers took 45 MINUTES TO COME OUT WE HAD TO REMIND THE COOKS WHOM THEN THREW SOME NOODLES ON A PLATE WITHOUT THE VEGETABLES ? I WISH I TOOK A PICTURE… it looked nothing like the photo on the menu. So we sent back and replied this isn’t the picture. So they apologized went to the back and put 4 VEGETABLES ON OUR PLATE 12 less than the photo and tried to reserve it. We had enough. I hate this place. The only good thing about it was the bartender.

Gen is a great place for BBQ. The meat quality is so fresh and great. The service is so welcoming and very efficient. There are so many options to choose from for either lunch or dinner. We were there for lunch. We picked Spicy Pork Bulgogi, Hawaiian Steak, Beef Bulgogi, Garlic Samgyubsal, Shrimp, Spicy Calamari, Assorted Vegetables. We also picked KFC and Cheese Tonkatsu as appetizers. They are all wonderfully flavored.

After being open a while already, this place should have gotten the kinks out of its service. Today was worse than when they first opened. We stayed the first time.

Today, it was a room full of workers that didn't want to be there. No smiles. The server we had went through the motions but couldn't care less about us. We got no rice, but the people next to us who came afterward did. Our table neighbors cared more about the service we were receiving than the workers. We had no tongs to cook food with, which would have helped if they even came over to turn on the fire before dropping off plates of meat. They suggested we use our chopsticks to cook.... raw meat?? And then use it to eat? Yeah, we left without eating and aren't going back.

Kapolei location - what is going on? The other locations are much better. West side peeps, drive a little bit further and go to Pearlridge instead. At least you get tongs to cook with and cups of water.

Went to celebrate my coworkers birthday, had a good time, food was tasty, drinks were flowing, all that stuff. Friend was keeping tabs of each drink we ordered so that we weren't overdoing it with the price (we were a big group) - I think on the menu the drinks we were ordering was $7-10?

We got the bill and we were charged $20 A SHOT. We talked to manager about the price, first it was "you guys ordered more than you thought" until we showed her we were keeping track. Then it was "we raised the price." The menu didn't reflect that at all, apparently "it happened just last week." The final reason was "Well, the amount of alcohol in our mixed drinks is the same amount you get with a shot, so it's the same price." It was so fricken obvious she was making up ish just to get us to leave it be. Waitress kept dropping off food we didn't order, so I feel like the sudden price raise was to cover their mistake(s). Terrible manager, thanks for ruining a good night. Ripoff ??

We come here a lot. 3x a month, at least. The only reason I gave 3 ? for service is because the servers get SO busy every time, they forget to even bring water. They are very pleasant however, I've been a server for years. I know the hustle & its not easy. BUT thats how you make a living. Service. Part of the hustle is remembering your table's needs. The food is great, the ambience is wonderful and the servers are pleasant. Its really just waiting every time on simple things, water, sides, even tossed salad. When you pay 130. A meal, you really dont want to wait 20 min for water or 15 min for another pair of chopsticks after asked. Im sorry if this seems rude, we like it here. We like it more when I dont have to bring my own utensils for faster eating. Mahalo for allowing suggestions.

Im a big fan of Korean BBQ places. This one in particular has a large selection of meats to choose from. I loved that it includes many appetizers in the default price, most places you have to order “a la carte”.
Super busy during lunch time, so be mindful of having to wait a little but regardless of that our orders got to our table without any delays.
Price is very affordable compared to most Kbbq i’ve visited in the states.

The manager over here was not treating people well. Normally we love eating here but we were waiting for over 20 minutes. Which we were fine with until people who came after us were getting seated. We noticed when we came that this had happened to a party of 3. They waited over half an hour and were never called and when they left the managers response was I called you 3x. As they left we decided to wait, then we received the same treatment. Instead of an apology or a sorry for the inconvenience we received bad treatment with a smirk on her face told us she called us 3x. To find out she never called us once. I share this because all I hope is for this not to happen to the next couple who get a once in a while night off from the kids. We do normally love Gen and hope this is just an off night. Please do better. Aloha

Came two days in a row (one for a birthday, and a friend hangout). Servers are nice and work hard, the actual service is just slow because they are understaffed and serving too many tables at a time per person. Even when we were looking to wave someone downto order, staff barely passed through because of how understaffed the front of house is.

Both days I left pretty disappointed because I felt full not because I ate alot, but because the food settled in my stomach with how long we waited for the meat.

The first day was a Thursday evening and we sat right before the dinner rush (~6pm). Our server was attentive but slow as she was managing 4 other tables (it wasn't even dinner rush yet). She forgot a couple small items like sides and sauces, but the meats and cooked dishes were accounted for. Despite being overworked she was still very pleasant. The atmosphere was very hot, and our grills were not changed often so the smoke inhalation was high and the tempurature of the restaurant was unreasonably hot - my legs were melted to the seat and my sister had to take a step outside or she'd pass out.

Day two - Friday night dinner rush (~8pm). We were a party of 5 and took about 45minutes to get sat. After being seated we got our soju bombs and all our food came out before our water - the water came after the second serving of meat. Again, the server forgot small items but he was on top of all the meat and cooked food. Tempurature wise it was not as bad as Thursday but still very sticky, another table even brought their own travel fans and were using it by the end of the night.

Food
Ordered off the standard dinner menu both nights. The meat quality was alright if you ordered stuff with sauce, but as soon as any cut had fat on it you'd see 30%-40% white because they don't trim the fat. Otherwise than that the marinated items are really tasty and have a ton of good flavor!

Overall, I think my experiences would have been so much better if it was not during the dinner rushes - that way the overworked servers can be more attentive per table and you get your food out faster. Avoid cuts with fat on it, cause you're likely to get a big chunk of untrimmed fat on the slab of meat. The staff is really kind and great service, they just need more. For the price point, you expect so much better.

This location had us wait over two hours. We had a reservation and we were told 3 separate times that it was going to be a 30 minute wait. The hostesses also gave us attitude when we asked for an update on when we were going to get a table because it was already an hour after our reservation time. My family felt very disappointed with the service we received and throughout the night we felt like we weren’t welcomed.
