Hot bread at the back alley makes your heart beat but your stomach full

Common Man Denver

This place is a famous spot. With all the locals. Was hard to find but worth
every minute. Hidden back alley off main town street. The smell of the bread loaves will tell you that you're in the right place. Keep going. You will hear voices in the alley under the sheet metal roof. You have found it. These are a HEAVENLY treat.!!! Best ever.!!

I was disappointed with my return visit to this establishment after many years. My previous visit was a highlight of my time on Molokai, but to see the current state was saddening. All of the food was served on disposable products, including styrofoam. This is not a responsible practice. The service was slow (and I like to take it slow on Molokai), and the bathroom was out of hand soap, which was not reassuring. Kanemitsu's is an institution, but it doesn't seem like there's a lot of care or aloha in maintaining the business. Other stores and restaurants in town seem to be fully staffed, so I'm not sure why they are struggling. I hope they can turn it around!

Coming back to Molokai at as an adult with young kids, I had to stop by Kanemitsu Bakery to relive some childhood favorites. This little hole-in-the-wall in Kaunakakai still serves up the kind of food that makes you feel at home.

We had the blueberry pancakes, beef cutlets, and Molokai bread French toast—everything was spot on. The pancakes were fluffy and packed with blueberries, the beef cutlets were crispy and smothered in rich brown gravy, and the Molokai bread French toast was soft, thick, and just the right amount of sweet.

Nothing fancy here—just good, old-school local food that hits the spot. If you’re back home visiting or just looking for a solid meal, Kanemitsu is definitely worth a stop. They close Tuesday and Wednesdays so make sure you go from Thursday-Monday.

We've come here almost every day, this palace is amazing!!! Tarro doughnuts and hot bread are huge highlight to being here. Thank you!

Great bakery. We enjoy the fresh breads and pastries. Hot bread out back in the evenings.

While we were disappointed the restaurant was closed when we visited, the bakery was still open and we got two delicious pastries, one as a free sample for the closure! The I’ve donut was perfect, the perfect amount of sweetness and fried perfectly. We also got a butter roll which was delicious. The woman working sat and talked with us for a while, giving us great insight on what it’s like to live on Molokai. I hope to come back someday and try the restaurant!

I just don’t understand the reviews for this establishment! I was there a few days ago and I will never go back. This restaurant/ bakery is absolutely disgusting. There are dead roaches, roach waste, rat waste, dirt & dust everywhere! I wish that I would have taken pictures. Apparently they were inspected in January and they passed!
WHAT!!!!! Now I have no faith in the agency responsible for food safety. My recommendation is to stay clear of this place

We were disappointed to be turned away because apparently there was not enough business, so they closed early. When we returned the next day, the cashier overcharged me for an item. I was extremely disappointed and saddened that this famous bakery appeared to be gasping for its last breath.

Hot bread is definitely the greatest thing since sliced bread. The ube hot bread was truly divine (we got all our flavors with cream cheese as well). The guava and blueberry are also very good as well. Don't worry about buying a bag they got you. I'll definitely be back every time I'm in Molokai!
