I was really excited to try Teshima as a friend of mine highly recommended it. However, it ended up as a disappointing experience - the food is mediocre at best (we ordered breaded pork chop and beef sukiyaki), the rice is below the average for a Japanese restaurant, the hostess is very passive aggressive. Then I read some reviews saying that they have a new management team, I guess it explains the downfall.

I've lived in Japan for several years. This ain't it. I wish I could say its better, it's just so incredibly average, even for American standards of japanese food. And cockroach 🪳 spotted running across the floor. Maybe it was good at one point?
I've been wanting to go here for a few years now. The omelette rice was so big I couldn't finish it so I brought some back with me to the cruise ship. It was delicious.

The omelet rice was so big that I couldn't finish it, so I took it back to the cruise ship and ate it for dinner. It was very delicious even though it was cold.
Parking: It's a very easy parking lot.

We had a really great experience. We wait maybe 25 min before we had been seated. The food was excellent, really reminds you of japan with a Hawaïn touch. Tempura and fried fish was really good. Their rice was delicious and the sashimi of Ahi too.
Really do recommend this place

Warm welcoming environment. I had fried rice omelette with beef and my niece had nabeyaki. Healthy portions. Took home huge amount of left overs and enjoyed two more meals from the omelette fried rice.

Great breakfast! 10/10
I have never had a fluffier pancake. Bacon and eggs custom cooked to perfection.
Thanks for letting us make a quick exit to get to our tour.

Mahalo, Teshima's. Don't ever change! ♡
Wheelchair accessibility: A little challenging, but not bad for Kona.

We ordered Udon and Teishoku. Both are very nice. My favorites are the miso soup and the shrimp tempura, its crispy batter is so good.

Not many authentic jap restaurants on the big island. I was not super impressed with the food but not a bad experience. Their tempura is good, other items are average. The service was a bit slow. The wait outside was about 30 mins during lunch time.

D Don't go there if you're a tourist. There's a sign that says, 'Please wait outside.' So, we waited, trying to get their attention. They saw us but kept ignoring us. Ten minutes later, some locals arrived behind us. The short lady who works at the restaurant came out and told us to go to the end of the line. We told her we were first. She then asked the locals behind us if we were indeed first, and they confirmed. She said, 'Okay, wait until we get you a table.' After waiting another 10 minutes, we decided to leave. As soon as she saw us leaving, she let the other people inside and continued to ignore us.

Teshima’s was hands down the best restaurant in the Big Island. Relaxed atmosphere, fast service and kind hosts. The food is very fresh and filling. Definitely recommend the sashimi and the misoyaki butterfish. Come hungry.
