I love this historic little restaurant. It’s more authentically Japanese than the places near me in SF Japantown. The love they have for their matriarch is really touching and so much aloha. I just can’t. Oh and the food is really good too. Service is with an authentic smile. I ended up going twice, once out of my way.
Was excited to try the food based on the reviews. Unfortunately found the food to be very underwhelming. I wouldn’t rate my restaurant choices in my area (ATL) as particularly great, but I was surprised to find this Japanese good as disappointing. Teishoku #2 fried fish was very normal to below average. Might of tasted better with a sauce. The tuna sashimi was also very average, probably the worst so far on my Hawaii trip in terms of taste. The noodle/beef was unexpected, so perhaps it is a style I am unfamiliar with. The cucumber was pretty okay and pickled cabbage was on the salty side but I liked it. Miso was a little on the plain side but wasn’t bad. Very small piece of tofu, no seaweed. Omelette rice egg was not what I was used to at all (more cooked, not soft or slightly liquid). It could be a style that I am not used to.

Family owned and almost 100 years old. Great service. Amazing atmosphere. You can feel the love and pride that goes into this restaurant. Especially love the little touches like staff coming to put flowers in your hair during the meal.

Delicious food and great service. What's not to like? We love this place and always make a point of visiting at least once while we're in town.

The ahi sashimi is the freshest I’ve ever had
Miso sauce butter fish is super flavorful and soft and I love how the rice green tea and pickles compliment the fish

Restaurantji Recommends
Delicious home-style Japanese food.
Loved the combo plate, especially the fried fish, and the tasty tomato beef dish that I’ve never had before.
Staff was super friendly and accommodated us even though we arrived 10 minutes before closing.
Also enjoyed the pictures of the owners grandpa (?) or great-grandpa playing baseball and cracking one into the bleachers!
Mahalo!

Really friendly service. Some dishes were very good, like fresh poke. Others were too heavily fried and tasted of oil (fried pork chop). Would recommend it highly, but acid fried dishes.

TESHIMA’S has been around for a long time; now run by the founder’s descendants. The atmosphere is old school family restaurant with some of the most delicious bento boxes, daily specials, and Japanese comfort food. Prefect lunch stop on the way back from Captain Cook’s beach outing or a short drive down from Kahalu’u beach.
Service is great and friendly.
