Tidepools is a very romantic open air bungalow style restaurant sitting over various Koi ponds aglow with fire from the tikis. Our server was very nice, knowledgeable and available. We enjoyed the vegetable summer roll and lamb chops as appetizers. Both were very tasty and the lamb chops more than ample as a meal if you ordered sides. We were so pleased with our center cut and filet steak as our entree. The center cut sirloin was smothered in a rum compound butter and seasoned to perfection. The ambiance made for a wonderful island experience. I would highly recommend dining here, then walking the beautiful grounds. Tidepools is great for family and dinner with friends. We had a wonderful time.
All of the staff was friendly, professional and on top of things. The food was amazing. The scallops with red curry beurre blanc was everything I hoped for and more. I'll be thinking about those dishes for a while and wish there was anything close to that good in California.
Overall, our dining experience was good (not great) at Tidepools. Service was a bit slow/delayed. We weren't in any hurry, so this was not problematic. It did appear that the one server was tasked with multiple tables that were all occupied. She was excellent and very personable, but over extended. Our meals were well prepared and excellent. We would have had dessert and after dinner drinks but feared based on service thus far that would extend us an additional hour. It was a bit inconvenient that there were no bathrooms available in the restaurant due to construction. We have visited Poipu several times and this was our first time at Tidepools. Not sure why it missed our radar on previous visits because we like fine dining. Maybe our experience was a one off for this particular evening. We will plan on returning.
Our waitress was amazing. She was friendly and helpful with questions. The food was excellent, ambiance was beautiful and we will definitely return on our next visit!
Great dinner, at great location, but we thought food was average. had a fish dish with lobster, scallops and fish. The star of the meal, the fish, was tastily overcooked. Great service Great location, maybe just a bad night!
First of all, the Grand Hyatt hotel is very beautiful. Very nice to walk around and enjoy. The walk to the Tidepools restaurant is not a short walk from the lobby. The decor of the restaurant is lovely, and the evening we were there, the luau special event was visible from the open air restaurant. So in a setting like this, you would expect top-notch food. Sadly, that was not the case. I ordered the macadamia crusted mahi-mahi which arrived suspiciously immediately after ordering. The fish was over-done, very dry, not moist, and fishy tasting, which suggests that it had already been prepared before I ordered it, possibly sitting under a heat lamp. This for the bargain price of $59. I had a far superior mahi at Keoki’s Paradise two days earlier - not dry, but moist, and not at all fishy tasting. And for less than what the Grand Hyatt charged me. I have always believed hotel restaurant food is subpar as they have a captive audience. The disappointing meal at Tidepools, unfortunately, confirms my belief. You can do much better elsewhere.
Food quality could be better with preparation. Went for anniversary. It would have been nice to receive a small dessert from the restaurant.
Les made our experience a great experience one at Tidepools. The food for 4 of us was absolutely delicious. Steaks, Mahi Mahi and chicken were cooked to perfection. The bread rolls are to die for. The Shipwreck drinks were good. The atmosphere was so perfect. I would definitely recommend Tidepools for a nice evening out.
Outstanding dinner. We highly recommend. We will definitely return before we leave to go home.
We loved the ambiance and location. Our server was great and courteous. But our fish entree was served undercooked. Kind of put us off for the rest of the meal. They did take it off of our check when we returned it. But value for our meal didn't seem there.

We had dinner reservations at Tidepools for three of us on a Sunday evening. Everything was beautiful as we made our way through the hotel. The check-in at the restaurant was smooth with a delightful receptionist. The bartender was a bit cranky and overworked, but the drinks were good. At the table, we ordered starters, main courses, and desserts. Ribs were terrible, overcooked, not edible. Creme brûlée also inedible. (They removed those charges from the bill). Even with some charges removed, the drinks and dinner bill was almost $400, way overpriced, touristy, not fine dining, a huge disappointment. I would not go there again and do not recommend it.
We love this place! We have stayed at the Grand Hyatt at Poipu multiple times and always look forward to our dinners at Tidepools. The food is delicious and the service is always top notch. But it’s the ambiance that makes this place special. No sunset views, but special nonetheless.
Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi is my go to meal.
