I ordered the fish (onaga) and I was very surprised at such a small portion, TINY-- came with about 3 pieces of bok choy, it was pretty bland but served with a butter sauce which was helpful ; however, my husband ordered the short rib and it was a solid portion and delicious. They were out of the white wine I ordered and served a substitute not as good; however when I ordered the red wine, the server recommended a delicious Ganache. The ambience is unsurpassed, beautiful restaurant, terrace with long view of ocean. Very elegant and definitely a 'must' for a special occasion.
It was delightful to have a high quality, leisurely meal in such a pleasant setting. No pressure to vacate the table while enjoying a well prepared meal and beverages.
Cocktail lounge service was very good. Dinner service, however.....we might as well been at a Denny's. Old plates and utensils sat on the table and had to ask for utensils after main course was finally served. Very few check-ins by the server. This on an evening with several open tables and plenty of staff. For such a high-end resort, we expected much more! Chalk it up to poor staff management and training.
When arriving there were fruit flies everywhere. Service was incredibly slow. We were there for an hour and a half until our dinner arrived. Food was at best subpar. The “48 hour” short ribs weren't good or tender as you'd expect. Garnish on the plate was tepid at best. We ordered a bottle of Taittinger champagne from the wine list that they couldn't find. They substituted it with another at “the same price”. When we got back to our room we found out their substitution was of lesser quality. So we got ripped off on that. When leaving, we asked for a champagne stopper and carrier. They found the stopper (after looking a considerable amount of time) but didn't have any carrier. They gave us a brown grocery bag to carry the champagne home. When we got back poured a glass of champagne only to find fruit flies in our glass.
They were out of two out of six entrees on the menu. We were celebrating a birthday and we had to remind the hostess and the server twice. They ultimately brought a complimentary dessert but it felt forced. Not worth a special occasion.
Service was not great. No one asked about how the food was, did not get a chance to order coffee or dessert
We came for New Years brunch. Food was just ok unfortunately. Service wasn't the best and quite slow. We won't be in a rush back.
$500 bill for absolute garbage service. John our server had an awful attitude and was really awkward for no reason. He was incredibly rude and soured my mother’s birthday dinner. The food was average. Nobody came to talk to us about anything but they sent over 3 desserts to try and fix their crappy service. Food was okay.
We eat at much more expensive places, don’t care about the $$$. Just wanted an acknowledgement from the manager and a different server. Would definitely pass at this price point.

Absolutely beautiful setting for breakfast. Our server was so knowledgeable about the menu and the island. The food was something special. The waffle showed how much time, care, and love were put into a simple dish. Lobster Benedict was superb. Can't wait to go back and will recommend to as many people as possible

Views are great, but for the money there are better dining options on Maui. Service was way below average and the food was overpriced.

Loved everything about this place, I mentioned my wife and I are in our honeymoon and then mentioned it and congratulated us even brought some free cake out. The experience was amazing and service was top notch. Thank you!
We have dined twice at Cane and Canoe, about a year apart, and we had a good experience both times. On this most recent visit, highlights of the meal included the "fish of the moment," which I believe was opakapaka, served on bok choy and roasted cauliflower, simply prepared but perfectly seasoned; the agnolotti appetizer with corn and lobster; and the chocolate mousse with passion fruit sorbet and berries. Wine options by the glass were good, and service was professional but not overly formal. It's a pricey meal, but by island standards, we felt it was worthwhile. My only (minor) criticism is that the setting feels a little closed-in compared to some restaurants that offer a more expansive view and have more of an open air feel.
Compared to other high end restaurants in the Lahaina/Kapalua area the Cane and Canoe was very peaceful and we had a great sunset view but not looking at Lanai. Food and service excellent.
This would have been a 5 star experience but we got sick from the food, which was not served at the appropriate temperature. Specifically, the short rib was lukewarm and was probably not stored properly. It's a shame Hawaii doesn't have the same food safety standards as Los Angeles, but you'd expect better from Montage. Not coming back.
