Food and service were fine. Not much in the way of atmosphere. It''s upstairs in an old golf club with a nice view of the greens, but does not look like it's been updated for many many years. There are so many great restaurants on Maui i don't really see how this place hangs on, but I suppose they have somewhat of a natural audience in the golf club members or golf players that give them a lot of regular customers.
For some reason this Roy's looks like it's closed. If I hadn't found availability on Open Table, we wouldn't have known it was open. The entrance is blank, not well lit, and not welcoming. The interior is completely without color and is lit like a cafeteria. Service, however, was charming and excellent.
We've eaten at them all- Mala, Plantation House, Merrimans, Dukes, etc. Roy's is the best of them all. While it's view isn't the ocean it more than makes up for that with great service and fantastic food
Great location. Has an old country club/coffee shop vibe, but food and service were excellent! One of our steaks was not cooked to order and our server and restaurant manager had a new plate made with a perfectly cooked steak and didn't charge us for it. Overall, a really delicious meal. I would visit again!
Been in Maui for a week, we have gone to all the popular restaurants. Merrimens, sansei, plantation etc. Our experience at Roy's tonight topped them all. Sure Merrimens view is phenomenal but the food at Roy's was top tier. We had the seats ahi (best we've ever had) calamari( best we've ever had) had a couple of great above average mai thais as well as amazing entrees. This was an amazing experience and our waitress was so kind and attentive. Please eat here, you won't regret it!
What a disappointment. We had not been in many years. The place had really gone to seed. The first bad sign was the amateurish “Please Wait To Be Seated” sign which looked like it was printed on a laser printer 10 years ago. A real restaurant would always have a greeter. The staff was rushing around like crazy people. Our server barely spoke to us. My wife's fish was severely undercooked. And finally the prices suggest a Michelin Star experience but the restaurant missed that mark by a mile.
It's been a long time since I came here. had maitai and I was pleasantly surprised that it was good!! I just wish it was in a pretty glass. It was the same as the water glass so it didn't feel as good. And we ordered crabcakes and Brussels sprouts for pupu, grilled prawns and seafood duo for entree. Everything was great!! Just one thing I wasn't a big fan of was that peanut red curry sauce , little too sweet for me. My son and I really enjoyed our dinner. Maybe they got busy, we had to wait for a long time after dinner for desserts so we decided to leave. We would come back again!
Food was ok Service was good at the beginning and then we were forgotten at the end. We are regulars at the Roy's in Pebble Beach and have always had excellent experiences there.
Good experience as we always make Roy's our last dinner before we leave Hawaii when on vacation. Though this location was not as updated and didn't feel as special as other locations we have dined at. Food was fine, with large portions, but question the cost as it was anything I would crave as a special dinner
Not the wonderful experience we have always experienced at any Roy's. Probably due to the devastating fire that destroyed Lahaina a year ago. We will go another time hoping for better service and ambience.
Restaurantji Recommends
My husband and I's steaks were both undercooked. I couldn't even eat mine because it was so undercooked and I'm pregnant... my husband sent his back but it took forever to get it back. The steaks also had a barbecue like char on the outside of them and it made the flavoring gross. Would not recommend for the price!!
Our server was very helpful with both wine and food selections. We had several questions, as we had all dined at Roy's Kaanapali in the past and had menu favorites, some of which had been changed or deleted, much to our chagrin. But with our server's help (and the support of the kitchen, (presumably), we all enjoyed an excellent meal.
I have been to Roy's in La Jolla, Palm Springs and Kauai. This one had no ambiance. It felt like a convention center. No music, no plants, no paintings. The shades were closed from the view of the golf course. Tables were spaced very far apart like Covid was still enforced. Needs a complete makeover. The food was great and our server was awesome. Just didn't feel like we wanted to stay. Couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Had such a wonderful experience at Roy's. The food and service were of the highest quality. I ordered the butterfish and it was the best fish I've had in a long time. I even asked how it was made so I can try at home. Ended the meal with a delicious cheesecake. Our server made our dining experience so enjoyable. A special meal at a special place.
We had a nice dinner at Roy's. We had a table next to the large windows where we could see the putting green near by a view view of the golf course. The buildings were in the distance where you would see the sunset. The table was right next to the bar which took away a bit from the ambiance. The service was great. Attentive and friendly. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts appetizer. It was very good but did not expect it to be that big of an order. You could probably share it easily between 4 people. For dinner, I ordered the butterfish and my husband order the macadamia crusted Ono. Great presentation for both dinners. My meal was very tasty, prepared with an Asian flair. My husband said the Ono was not a flaky as expected and thought it was just alright. We were so full from the appetizer and dinners, we did not order dessert.
