First time at this place, which is right next door to one of our other favorite places. The menu was not too extensive, but high quality offerings. We ordered the coconut shrimp (pretty standard island app), whole fried fish, parm truffle risotto (for main course) and gnocchi. All dishes were excellent. The place is a bit cramped due to it's physical location and building,, so no need to get dressed up. In particular the fish was outstanding. It comes with black bean sauce, but we mentioned that we like the Chinese style fried fish to be a spicy and they happily added some siraccha to it to give it a kick. Would go back again and get the fish. Just as a rough gauge, prices may vary, 1.25 lbs was $99 and 1.5lbs was $109. My son and I split the fish and were very satisfied (to the point of picking up the head and trying to dig out soft parts of fish leftover).

Happy hour at Mala's was an outstanding experience. We were sat oceanside and saw more sea turtles while dining than we did during our snorkeling excursion a few days prior. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and were taken good care of by our waitress Chyna including a complementary champagne toast. Would definitely recommend their Mai Tai!

All of the staff was so nice and welcoming. Couldn't beat the location and even saw a couple turtles in the water. We had a great breakfast with a delicious bread that tasted homemade. They had a hot sauce that we bought too because it tasted so good. I also had a POG blend of different juices that hit the spot. Would definitely go back.

Enjoy the dinner and the atmosphere, but I was blown away by the 4% additional inclusive charge for the kitchen, inclusive tip for the kitchen? Not only was that included in the check, but that tip was taxed as well. Very dissatisfying to experience that at this restaurant. Buyer beware.

Had the amazing special, Octopus and pork belly salad! One of the tastiest meals I’ve ever had. Well done chefs!!! The whole staff was great. Bartenders Sol and Roberto were more than knowledgeable and helpful. Epic ocean view, sits right on the water.
If you are on Maui, Mala is a must!

Really nice evening at Mala Ocean Tavern. Kat, our server, was outstanding. Loved that she addressed us by name when she introduced herself. We shared the whole fish (snapper). Nice preparation, although my husband would have liked more mashed yukon golds. Overall great service, cocktails and food. We'll be back!
