Caution! We are visitors and fully respect the tipping culture here. However, what happened was completely unacceptable. When it came time to pay, the server grabbed my friend’s phone to process the payment and selected the highest tip rate himself—without asking, without pausing, and with zero regard. That’s not just rude, it’s outright inappropriate. My friend was too shocked to respond in the moment, but this behavior is unacceptable by any standard.

Visited on Monday May 18 for early supper. Always a must visit when in Maui. This was the first time that we were underwhelmed. We were seated in the lower level shaded wind tunnel on the right side of the restaurant with many tables available in main dining area as it was so early.
The mai tais were not the same as a few years ago but the big disappointment was that my Ono entree, though the fish was great and served hot the broccoli was cold and rice was luke warm at best. My partner had the falafels and they were also served barely lukewarm. Bad timing on the chef’s part.
Service was great.
The next day we went monkey pod for lunch and had the mai tai of our dreams and the food was amazing and served fresh and hot.
We will skip Mwrrimans next time and opt for Monkey Pod and Mamas fish house instead.
Go! Don’t wait another minute reading the reviews. The views are gorgeous and the food was amazing. Go!!! Now! 😁
Tiffany best server ever and the Chef is outstanding! Best place in Maui
My Wife and I are foodies and I could not wait to share the good review of this place. I am critical and have left 5 star reviews before but I think this place has raised the bar for me.
I can not rave more about the location, views and the sunset at this place. The point and the way the waves break are unreal.
The food is local and top notch with attention to detail. One of those experiences where everything is so good you cant even remember what you just consumed and are just mesmerized. lol.
- Best Mai-Tail on the islands to boot.
Service was top-tier. My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary dinner/day here. This was probably one of our top restaurant experiences -- all time! 100 percent would recommend!
My wife and I came here for a few drinks on Friday night. We made a reservation on OpenTable for bar seating as we didn’t want to take up a normal table just for drinks. They offer complimentary valet which was awesome as we didn’t have to worry about finding a place to park. Their bar area was great, had plenty of seating, and had incredible views! The entire restaurant was opened up so the open-air feel made the atmosphere even better. The two bartenders took great care of us and crafted some incredible cocktails. My wife ordered the No Ka 'Ol, which was made with Ocean Vodka, fresh lime, thai basil, kauai honey-lilikoi syrup - I ordered the Original Mai Tai, which I was told was boozier than the Merriman’s Mai Tai. Both cocktails were fashioned to perfection and tasted incredible. We decided to order a lite bite so we tried their Beef & Bacon Sliders. The starter had two little sliders on a brioche bun, with cornichon, blue cheese aioli, and house-made Moloka‘i sweet potato chips. The flavor of it all was amazing and the portion was just enough for us to snack on. We finished up by ordering one more round of cocktails. I switched it up this time and ordered the Merriman’s Mai Tai as I wanted the famous Kauai honey-lilikoi foam topper. As you could except, it was phenomenal! Overall, our experience was incredible and we cannot wait to come back! I would highly recommend making a reservation if you’re wanting to dine here, even if you’re just wanting to sit at the bar. Most, if not all, of the seats up at the bar were reserved so I’m not how well they could accompany walk-ins.
Fantastic service the food was amazing.
I'll start by saying that the food and drinks were amazing. Everything was perfectly cooked and they are catering to allergies. Live music was very nice as well. However, there were two negatives. It took 1.5 hours after the appetizers to receive the main course so be prepared for a long night. On a windy evening, it gets cold very fast including the food even when served on warmed plates so bring a jacket. A little disappointing to eat a cold $78 filet mignon but it still tasted great.
This was our first trip to Maui and we wanted to try Merriman’s but didn’t think about it until shortly before we arrived. I was still able to get a reservation at the bar and it turned out to be the best place in the house to sit. We got to watch an amazing bartender make cool unique cocktails while we enjoyed our dinner. We were celebrating our anniversary and they gave us a special treat. Food was delicious and the service was top notch. We definitely enjoyed the evening.
One of our go to places to celebrate Maui visits. Dine with a great atmosphere and sunset view, decent food.
Restaurantji Recommends
We had made reservations long in advance because we knew we wanted to experience Merriman's Kapalua. We had a perfect table with a view of the point and sunset. We brought our favorite bottle of wine (that they didn't carry) and wine corking fee was only $35. Our server was very attentive and even shared a glass of wine with us because she had never tried it! This was my wife's favorite food during our trip. The appetizers, main entrees, and desserts were incredibly delicious.
Relaxing atmosphere and not rushed at all.
Our waitress Jasmine was great! The food was also really good. The quesadilla appetizer is soo good. Highly recommend the macadamia crusted fresh catch for dinner! My husband got the ahi and also would highly recommend, but would switch the slaw out for something else. We also got the pineapple macadamia bread pudding and it was so good!
The most beautiful views. I make it a point to come every time I'm in Maui. The food and wine are top notch. And the service is extraordinary.
Unforgettable Dining at Merriman’s Maui – A Culinary Masterpiece
Dining at Merriman’s in Maui is not just a meal—it’s a symphony of flavors, textures, and impeccable service that leaves a lasting impression. This is, without question, one of the most exceptional dining experiences you can have on the island, and perhaps anywhere.
Let’s start with the food—absolutely phenomenal. The shrimp was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and delicately seasoned in a way that brought out its natural sweetness without overpowering it. The steaks? They didn’t just melt in your mouth—they disappeared like a dream, leaving behind nothing but the desire for another bite. Every plate that came out of the kitchen was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor.
The wine program is equally spectacular. Their wine cellar is a treasure trove, curated with care and precision. I only wish I had the capacity to drink more, because Solomon, the sommelier, is a true master of his craft—knowledgeable, passionate, and spot-on with every recommendation.
The bar staff and servers deserve high praise as well—warm, professional, and on-point throughout the evening. Their attention to detail and timing elevated an already outstanding experience into something truly memorable.
Merriman’s is more than just a restaurant—it’s a destination. A place where you feel welcomed, spoiled, and inspired all at once. This has become an absolute must-visit every time we return to Maui, and I genuinely can’t wait to come back again and again.
