Stayed at the resort for 5 nights and gave the restaurant/bar a chance. We never eat at resort restaurants because most time the food is mid (meh). We are foodies, but our expectations are reasonable. We were also drawn in by the live music and hula, which was amazing. Kudos to the performers.

Ordered the spareribs in plum sauce at Shutters. It was NASTY. I think the sauce had turned since there was a heavy vinegar taste and the ribs had been cooked a while before and reheated. I ate one half of the 3 ribs. I ended up having some stomach issues the next morning and I’m confident it was from the ribs.

The comical part was when the server came to clear the table and bring our check she clearly observed the remaining ribs and asked if I didn’t like them. I let her know that something was wrong with them. She replied with “you must not be a plum person” and charged us for the ribs in the end.

This made me laugh and didn’t bother going into more detail with her. Along with this interaction and her lack of engagement throughout the dining area it was clear she was not meant to be in the industry and no conversation is going to fix that. It is sad to still see the impact COVID has left in service industries.

Point is there are a ton of great restaurants in Princeville, Lihue, Wailua, and Poipu. Grab a drink at the bar to enjoy the live music, but go outside the resort for food.

Delicious food with friendly staff. Happy hour discounts on snacks and drinks make it a great alternative for dinner.

We stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort and went to Shutters the first night to get a drink to have while walking on the beach. It was not high quality. I saw the "bartender" go to the cooler and grab a premixed "manhattan" in a glass and pour it into a plastic cup for us to go out to the beach area. My wife had a mai tai. I think that one was at least mixed when it was ordered. Mine tasted like it was - tired, a bit diluted, and clearly made long before I drank it. If that were the end of the story, I would be arguing about whether to do 2 or 3 stars, but the best part is what came next. We were wandering around in Hanapepe and ended up buying a fresh dragonfruit from a little store. When we came back, I went to the bar to see if they could give me a knife. I expected a plastic or maybe butter knife, but the busboy got me a steak knife, which was so much better. Next night, we had some left over poke and I asked for whether they had soy sauce, and the busser came back with packets for us to take to the room. The staff definitely went out of their way and I would give 5 stars for that, but I cannot ignore the bad drinks. Did not get to try the food.

We ate here on our first night on the island of Kauai. Very convenient since we were staying at the resort. get there early and enjoy appetizers with killer mai tai drinks. Our server was very friendly.

We arrived late on Saturday from Melbourne via Oahu and were tired to go out to meals outside the Kauai Beach Resort. We decided to dine in and also the other attraction was the Hula dance that was to be staged in the evening. To our disappointment, the dance was cancelled but to our pleasant surprise the place had good food with equally charming waitress. Local Baby Greens salad was very refreshing with good quality strawberries. The fish and chips were different from that is served in Melbourne but was nice. Mushroom bowl that we ordered was not bad. To top it all the chocolate mouse cake was so good that after a dinner out the next day we had to compensate the bad food with the same cake that we had on Saturday. Added to the good food and the ambience are the views from the restaurant. Kauai having temperate temperature all year round having an outdoor table adds to the charm to dine at the Shutters.

We came here twice since its next to our timeshare. The first time they had an excellent steak. Fish & Chips ok. Watered down drinks of all kinds. Burger was good. Second time they had a different steak that wasn't very good. Wish they would keep good things always on the menu. Salad was excellent.

The food at the shutter was excellent. I can not say the same for the service. I gave my server (Gina) my card to pay for my bill. When she came back from running my card, I noticed an extra charge on my card for $179.06 extra. When I asked her what the cost was. She said, look, I only charged you what your bill was $60. When I spoke with the manager, she said that she did not charge my card for that amount. When it clearly showed it on my bank statement. Also the manager showed me a receipt showing her having a table with that amount. Long story short. She had another table with that amount and accidentally charged my card that amount. I was refunded the next day. I get it things happen, and people make mistakes. What makes me mad instead of admitting she made a mistake. She lied about it and told me she had no idea how my card was charged that amount and denied doing it. I don't like liars, and I feel like the manager didn't help out that much. Just be careful and check your statement if you decide to eat here. The server might and try and pull a fast one on you.

I arrived at the resort late afternoon and after a lengthy check in decided to try this place out. Sat at a table and was greeted (term used loosely) by the most dis-interested waitress. I ordered a longboard lager and it was warm, could not finish it. Then the big blunder. I ordered the Kalua pork nachos at US $16. Hot on the edges cold in the middle, very little salsa and 3 slices of chilli. The pork did not taste right, but thinking this might be how it’s meant to taste, I started eating. The entire dish was swimming in a pool of oil. It was a crime that you feel obligated to tip for such poor service, poor meal and poor beverage. Yes I could have complained, but if you are in the tourism business you only get one shot to impress me. Sometimes the problem with tourist hot spots is that businesses can let their guard down, because the likelihood of an overseers customer giving repeat business is remote so therefore they do not matter. I will point out that about three to four hours after I ate, I was sick.

Live Music was Wonderful! Food is average, cocktails too expensive for what you are served. If you like 13 dollar Mr & Mrs. Ts margaritas, then this is the place for you.

Bar menu offers many quick choices. Prices are more reasonable than in the main restaurant. Service was quick.

The food was good and the service was great. Good wine list. comfy place. Leland makes a quality Mai Tai and is very personable. Our happy hour with him was a highlight of our stay.

My parents were very excited to take us to the shutters lounge as they had a great experience before. However, this time, it went terribly. Mainly because of the food. The server was fine enough but not so good for us to look past the food. Everything came out overcooked. We only sent back the egg rolls because they were unacceptably burnt. The EXACT SAME egg rolls came back with the burnt bits cut off. The problem here is when you overcook egg rolls, the inside becomes absolute mush. So even though they cut off the burnt ends, it was still not edible. We didn’t bother sending it back again. After that, we only went to this lounge for drinks. My advice is try food outside of the resort.

We loved the resort in general, the grounds, views and service. But the dining options were limited and our food and service at Shutters was blah. The menu is very limited, and in my view overpriced for the quality. Bartenders were not friendly at all.

We stayed at the nearby Kauai Beach Villas and walked over to the Kauai Beach Resort for happy hour. The resort's Shutters Lounge overlooks the expansive pool area and the ocean beyond on the beautiful east side of the island. The mai tais and appetizers we ordered (two days in a row) were delicious, and our server was attentive and friendly. Live music in the adjoining hotel lobby was pleasant without being intrusive on our conversation.
