The vegan tacos are just veggie tacos and had no flavor to them. Rice and beans cost extra and chips is expensive. Updated from previous review on 2025-06-28
We went for lunch with our two vegetarian nieces and us vegan. My wife and I shared the vegan tacos and a vegetarian (made vegan) burrito. It was great. They also have vegan dessert. The habanero salsa was authentically spicy.
Lots of good options for vegetarians on the modern Mexican menu
This place shouldn’t be allowed to be called Mexican. It genuinely tasted like “Mexican” food white people make for their young kids at home. I’m all for “home cooking” however charging $20 for white rice canned beans and what tasted like a store bought tortilla is wild. I’m not sure if we are too far from Mexico for people to notice they are eating genuinely bad food.. or if they are taking advantage of weary travelers, but it’s horrific.
Save your money and go to Taco Bell.. you will know what you are getting yourself into and someone wind up with a more complex flavor profile 😂😭 (saying this as a person who hates chain food)

I got the verde burrito and a few bean and cheese burritos, I figured a veggie burrito can’t be that bad right? I was wrong. If you would like a broccoli butter and one hash-brown burrito (also known as the verde burrito) this is your place. The audacity to call it Mexican or spiced food especially for $20???? I honestly couldn’t believe it. I ate GOOD food throughout the island. This place is absolutely disgusting. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else eating here. Definitely disappointed and definitely disturbed .

Very friendly staff. The atmosphere was chill. I got the beef nachos and my wife got the fish tacos. We also got the chips with salsa verde. Nachos were more than I could eat and I'm known for being able to put down large amounts of food. Don't pass this place without stopping in to check it out.

Great place!!
Ate verde verde burrito at Lihue & food was yummy.
A bit expensive for a party of 2 (52$), but it was definitely worth!

I drove across Kauai to get the vegan crumble tacos only to be informed that they were out because a machine was broken, which will surprise no one who has spent any time on an island that seems to be out of most things, most of the time (And no one seems to mind.) Instead, I was forced to order the other vegan tacos, which were mundane at best and seriously expensive at their worst. Skip this joint, vegans unless you are stranded in a food desert/island (You are.)
That being said, the staff was nice and attentive. It doesn't make up for the other issues, but meh, it wasn't even the worst food I'd had in the last 24 hours so...

We are frequent visitors of Kauai and a few years ago we discovered Verde. We’re from California, which has lots of great Mexican food restaurants and Verde is the best Mexican food we’ve ever had. Verde is our top 3 go to restaurants the island and go multiple times on every trip. We highly recommend Verde to anyone who loves Mexican food.

This place advertises to be Mexican food but it is NOT Mexican food. The food was trying to be Mexican food but it wasn’t and it was flavorless so I requested some salsa which was also flavorless and they charged $2 for it! Mexican food COMES with salsa. The rice was white and tasted like cardboard. The food was expensive as well. They also have on the menu vegetarian options that I was told they “haven’t had in months” but they won’t remove them from their website or menu.
